hear that Mr. Robt Warwick of the
3rd line, had passed 'away on Satur-
day. Much sympathy is extended to
the family.
Some of the farmers are busy get-
ting their wood. cut with the sawing
machine and other are busy making
maple syrup.

The regular, monthly meeting of
the \'V.M,S. of Chaliner's Church was
held on Thursday last with the pres-
ident, Mrs. Henry Godldn,' in- charge
of the meeting. The Scripture read-
ing was taken by Miss Annie Laid-
law, and Miss McQuaid, Miss Merle
Wilson and Mrs. Garton had charge
of the chapter from the study book,
Fellow Citizens. Mrs. Robt. Mow-
bray led in prayer and the president
closed the meeting with,°prayer.
Mr. and Mrs. Thos. McCreight at-
tended the funeral of their niece, Miss
Beatrice Johnston, .who passed away
after being ill in Stratford Hospital
for a few weeks. She was the daugh-
ter of Mr. Wm. Johnston and the late
Mrs. Johnston of Port Burwell, Mr.
Johnston will be remembered by
many of the Lower Wingham people.
The funeral was held on Thursday
from the horse of her brother, Mr. F.
Johnston of Seaforth, to \7Viingham
Cemetery. Rev. Mr. Roberts, of the
Anglican Church, had charge of the
service at the cemetery.
The regular monthly meeting of the
.W.M.S. of the United Church was
held on Wednesday last, and in the
absence of the President, Mrs. Jos.
Tiffin had charge of the meeting.'
Mrs. Pox gave a missionary reading '
and the Temperance readings were '
very interesting. Mrs. Tiffin and Mrs.
Reed sang a duet and Mrs. Lott and
Mrs. MCBrien led in prayer. One 'of
the returned missionaries will speak
at an evening meeting, in the Easter
holidays, which -will be the regular

improving after an operation for ap-

Misses Johnston and :Yeo of Mit-
chell, Mr. Floyd Johnston of London,
visited Miss Pauline Robinson. Sun-
day,
A very successful sale was held on
Friday of farm stock and implernents
of the late Mr. Fred Haydon of East
Wawanash, who was instantly killed,
December last. Mr. Geo. Elliott of
Clinton, was the actioneer, and Rev.
Father Sullivan was the administrator.
Airs, Maud Hueston of Kincardine
Visited her brother, Mr. G. M. Chain-
hers, during the week.
At a meeting held recently in Mein-
orial' Hall to discuss the matter of
providing• a covered . rink for Blyth,
a. committee was appointed to secure
information regarding the financing
of the ' project. Several mechanics
gave their estimates of the cost, and
none of these tenders were below
$4000.. The committee decided not to
put any more taxes, on the_ratepay-
ers so gave up the project for the
present' at least.
Otrr farmers in this vicinity are busy
making maple syrup. -
Mr. William Smith of .Fort Erie,
is visiting friends in this locality.

The Young People of Brick United
Church held a very successful St.
Patrick's social at the home ofJohn
Beecroft on Tuesday evening of last
week. The evening was spent in gam-
es and contests. Lunch was served at
the close.

was given by Mr.• George Taylor on
Tuesday evening: -

Social on Friday evening with a large
number being present. An excellent
program was given, consisting of sol-
os by Miss Annie Vipond, Alex. Men-
zies, jack ,Reavie, duet by Misses
Edith Kew and Janet Robertson;
readings by Miss Louise Ireland and
Lawrence Taylor; a short play was
presented by Misses Beatrice Bee-
rcoft, Margaret Robinson, Lavina
McBurney. Rev. A. M. Grant acted
as chairman.
