GOVERNMENT HIGHWAYS
The Arthur Enterprise -News last
week made a wise -crack in regard to
the Harriston-Wingliant road being
taken over by the Government. They
remarked, why should not the munic-
ipalities affected, Harriston, Hol+iek,
Turnberry and Wingham, ask that
the road, be taken over by the Gov-
ernment when it will not cost them
anything,
The north part of; Huron County
has been long suffering in the matter,
of Provincial Highways and any per-
son who is familiar with the affairs
of this county knows the reason, t
The southern par ion of the Coun-
ty was given the paving privileges
first as it was felt that by so doing.
the system of linking main roads 1zy
pavement would be more eeoeomically
accompished. The northern part of
Huron is asking only what it has a
right„ to .demand,
We have in the north part of this
county but eight miles of pavement
(Clinton to near Blyth) and we can
see no reason why the road from
Blyth to Wingharn should not be
paved this year and then the connect-
ing link with the Durham highway
finished tate year following.
This brings us to the Harriston `
4Vingham road. if this road was tak-
en over by the Government and
brought up to standard and paved af-
ter the completion of highway No. 4,
we would be -well served with high-
ways and at some further date if the
road to Listowel front Wingham was
also paved we would have all the pav-
ed roads required for this district.
To say that this work' is being ask-
ed for because it does not cost any-
thing is to say the Ieast ridiculous.
The people of North Huron have been
paying the gas tax for years and have

ittle to show for it in this part of
he country. They also have been
paying their share, through the county
for the roads, built in the south part.

DO YOU WANT A RE -UNION?
On ,Friday' night this week there
will he a public meeting in the Conn
ell Chambers to .discuss the advisabil-
ity of holding "an Old Boys' Re -Union
in Wingham this year. It is a long
time since such an event was staged
here, 1919, and it would be a wonder-
ful thing to have all the Wixgham-
ites back home at one- time.
To have a successful re -union will
entail a lot of work and the co -opera,,
tion of all the citizens is essentialin
order that it may be brought to a suc-
cessful .conclusion.
The meeting Friday night is for
the express purpose of discussion of
the pros and cons of such a celebra-
tion, so be an hand and voice your
opinion.

A SWIMMING POOL
As we sit writing this article the
wind is howling and the snow is drift-
ing by the window and just why we
are writing about a swimming pool
atthis time many people will wonder.
At the banquet given by the Mayor
and Reeve, several good suggestions
were 1 x made rade and it is our intention to !starling pie with such :a bag as
say something about these matters
from time to time, and as the. swim-
ming pool happens to be first on our
list, we take it up first.
Mr, Posliff was the gentleman who
mentioned a swimming pool for our
boys' and girls. We Have heard oth-
ers mention it before. The lake shore
towns have the lake in which to do
their swimming, but here, although
we have a river running right through
our town, we have no suitable place
to bath.
The law water at lfacLean's swim-
ming Bole in the summer time is little
better than a bath tub and the C,P.R.
bridge, where many go, is private
property and dangerous for those
who do not actually know how to
Swim.
Plans for such an undertakipg
should be completed well ahead of
the summer months, so we talk swim-
ming pool while the wintry blasts are
still with us, hoping the idea will. take.

HIS SHAFTS
Editor 'Wingiutm Adv ince-Thnes,
Undouhtedy the greatest. atest actor of
our age, Mr, .Bennett, cat tars new role
of "jester" is exceedingly impressive,
and arousing,. Ws excruciatingly fun-
ny quibs and: cranks are quaint and
queer, and his ridicule, rascally,
though excusably, ridiculous, The
shafts he aims at Canada's l2;eaction-
tory Liberal Party are tempered to
such a dewee, and so finely pointed
that the really tough bide of the
Party,, reproachfully mentioned, has
neither of its hemispheres adequately
plated to turn them aside.
As a consequence ,Bennett's shafts
have done damnable damage, and the
Liberal Party is now in •dire need of
medical attention. In fact it is so
shot to pieces that there is grave
doubt of its ever being put together
again. However, as ' its restoration

mate :recovery is assured, and it will
soon "hob -up. most serenely", and be
able to function again with its accus-

a matter of fact, its restoration Must
be accomplished. Its continued ex-
istence is absolutely necessary, as
