''10, BLUEVALE Christmas Social The annual Christmas social under the auspices of Knox Presbyterian Sunday School was held in the school room on Wednesday evening. A short program consisting of choruses, reci- tations, solos and- dialogues was nre•- sented by the scholars. The pastor, Rev. J. R. Greig acted as chairman and led in singing Christmas carols. The school room was prettilydec- orated with Christmas streamers and a tree tree with tinsel hanging. The children received a treat of candy and fruit. The ladies of the congrega- tion served a sandwich and cookie lunch with coffee, and a social time was enjoyed. James McHardy spent a few days this week with his nephew, Robert and Mrs. Aitchison at Ripley, Alex. Mowbray and daughter, Miss Alba spent Friday with Mr, and Mrs. F. S. Edmunds at Stratford. The Community Christmas Tree and concert held on Friday evening was a grand success, in the afternoon Santa Claus arrived early and a par- ade was formed and headed by our band, and Santa was kept busy all a- long the route dispensing his good things to the children. Mr. Wm. Ham had his small ponies in the parade and made an ideal pair of reindeers. Early Thursday morning Bainton's Woollen Mill was partly destroyed by fire, the stock of wool and the rest of the contents are partly cov- ered by insurance. There will not be a municipal elec- tion as the Reeve ,councillors and the school trustees were elected by accla- mation, A large 'number of our citizens at- tended the Christmas entertainment at Cowan's school on Thursday even- ing. Miss Hazel Richards is the very efficient teacher. Mr. William Gibson has a Jersey cow that gave birth to two reale cal- ves Sunday morning. Christmas Tree and Concert The annaul Christmas tree and con- cert of Knox United Church Sunday School, Belgrave was held in the For- esters' Hall, on Friday • evening, Dec. 21st, when a good crowd gathered to bear a splendid program which had been prepared by the members. of the Sunday School: Rev. The opening service of the Young People's Society at the United Church was taken last Thursday evening by Mr. Clarence McClenaghan. Mrs, C. Gillespie read the Scripture lesson. Miss Agnes Gillespie sang "Lord, speak to me that I may speak." Mr. Bert Cullinore read a Christmas story which was followed by a hymn "We give Thee but Thine own." A number of young people then present- ed a short missionary play which was very interesting. Mr. Garnet Farrier then rendered a selection on the saxa- phone, which was greatly appreciated. After singing a hymn, Mr. McClen- aghan closed the meeting with pray- er, followed by .the Mizpah benedic- tion in unison. New Poultry Council The Ontario Poultry Council was formed provisionally at Guelph, early in November, and held its first meet- ing. This Council represents all of the poultry associations known. The names of these five associations are: Canadian Baby Chick Association, Ontario Hatchery Approval, Ontario Registered Breeders' " Association, Ontario Poultry Confederation, Three representatives from the executives of these associations for this Council.
