Culminating centennial celebrations
now tinder way in Melbourne, Aus-
tralia, more than a score of aeroplan-

the world, •excepting Canada, will set
out from London, England, on an
11,000 mile speed and handicap race,
on October 20. New aeroplanes, some
of them said to have a speed of 200
miles an hour, are being built for the
race. Sixty-five entries were received,
but several have dropped out recent-
ly. The race is sponsored by an Aus-

OBITUARY
Henry Zimmerman
:The late Henry Zimmerman, who
passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 2nd,
was born in Wesley Township in the
year 1851 and who moved with his
parents when three years of age to
Carrick Township and at 16 years c f
age carie to Howick and resided on
Lot 11, Con, 8; until the time of his
death, His parents predeceased him

The funeral service was held on
Thursday and was conducted by the
Rev. G. W. Butt, the pastor. Inter-
ment was made in the Gorrie Cemet-
ery. The pall -bearers were: R. Earls,
E. Toner, M. Taylor, B. Sothern, E.
Carson and A. Taylor.
TEACHERS' CONVEN-
TION HELD IN TARA
The Annual Convention of the
Bruce East, Grey (in part) Huron (in
part), was held on Thursday and Fri-
day, Oct. 4th and 5th. Tile first ,day
twenty teachers remained at ,,their
schools as usual and were visited by
seven teachers from schools in the
district.
On Friday the meeting was held at
Tara when about 120 attended. . The
iriglt light of the meeting was an ad-
dress by Hon. Duncan Marshall on
"Agriculture in Our Elementary
Schools".
