Mr. and Mrs, Duncan Kennedy, who
have been visiting for the past sik
weeks with friends in Manitoba and
.British Columbia, returned on Friday
and Mr, Kennedy left on Saturday
with Mr., Chas, Gillespie. and Kenneth
Weaver for Toronto to 'attend the re-
union of the Veterans.
Mr. and Mrs. Lester Falconer spent
the week -end with Mr, and Mrs, El-
gin Wellwood of Caledon. Master
Rellison, who was visiting ,there also,
suffered a very painful accident on
Sunday when riding a bicycle on the
street. Th'e wheel skidded on a stone
and threw him against a store win-
dow, his arm went through the win-
dow and down on the sharp broken
edge of glass. His right arra was bad-
ly cut, above the elbow. He was tak-
en to Orangeville Hospital where he
must remain for several days until the
arm can be put in a cast.
Don't forget the regular monthly
meeting of the Women's Institute.
which will be held in the Hall on Fri-
day. Rev. T. C. Wilkinson will ad-
dress the ladies.
Mr. and Mrs. Dan Mackay and fam-
ily of Guelph, visited at the home: of
his parents on Sunday.
Miss Lilian Patterson of Brussels,

The Mission Band held a social tea
at the home of Mrs. Bert Reed on
Saturday.
Miss Lottie Davidson of Regina,
who has been in Toronto for the past
month, is now visiting with her sister,
Mrs. Henry Goclkin and other rela-
ftives here.
Miss Bertha Mackay of Stratford,
spent the week -end with her parents
here.
Little Ronald and Donald Mackay
of Dunnville, are visiting with their,
aunt, Mrs. Robt. Mowbray.
Rev. Mr. Claming of Walton is tak-
ing the services at St. Helens and
Whitechurch next Sunday.
Mrs. Cumberland and Agnes left
for their home in Manitou, Man., on
!Monday after spending the past few
weeks with .relatives in this district.
Miss Dunlop of Toronto and Mr.
Thos. Morrison spent Sunday at Bay-
field and Goderich.
Mr. and Mrs. Orville Tiffin and
sons visited on Sunday at the home
of her brother, Mr. John McInnis of
Langside.
Mrs. John Cloakey and her daugh-
ters, Mrs. Ernest Brooks and Bernice
and Allie of London, visited on Tues-
day at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J.

Woman's Association Meet
Tlie regular meeting of the Wo-
man's Association of the United
Church was held on Thursday after-
noon at the home of Mrs. Ed. Johns-
ton. The vice president, Mrs. Arthur
Shaw, presided, and opened the meet-
ing with a period of devotion and con-
ducted the business, Over thirty lad-
ies answered the roll call. At the close
of the meeting a social time was en-
joyed when Mrs. Johnston and Mrs.
Robert McLennan served refresh -
/tents.
Knox WAILS, to Ship a Bale
The W. M. S, of Knox Presbyter-
ian Church met iii the schoolroom of
the church on Thursday afternoon,
Owing to the absence of the Presi-
dent, the vice president presided, The
Scripture lesson was read; by Mrs, R.
Turney Arrangements were complet-
ed for the packing of the bale, all
articles are to be in the hands of the
s
e `upply s cretar y, Mrs. Jno. Mandell,
this week. Mrs, D. J, Falconer read
an interesting missionary leaflet. The
meeting closed with prayer.
Mrs. Duff's Store Sold •
Mr. Campbell, of London, was in
the village this week taking stock for
Mrs. Dinff, who has sold her business
to Mr. W. 5,' Whettlaufer of Wheat-
ley. Mr. and. Mars, 'Wiiettlaufer and
family are getting settled in their new
place of business and Mrs. Duff is re-
siding with her sister, Mrs, Will Hall
at Brussels.
Alex, Mowbray andsonshave pur-
chased a new truck for use in their
oil refining industry.
Several warveterans from here are
in Toronto this week attending the
Canadian Re -Union, n Corps Re Union, Jno.. Kerr,
Ralph Shaw, Frank Shaw, J. 'NL Scott
and George Johnston are among the

Miss Barbara Thyme is with her
friend, Miss Mary Black,
Miss Helen Beattie of Toronto and

Seaforth, spent Wednesday with their
cousin, Mrs. R. F. Garniss,

ed to Toronto after spending several

Belgrave station was the scene of
great activity Wednesday of last week
at noon when several members of the
Women's Missionary Society of Knox
United .Church gathered to meet the
train and receive the children who
were sent by the Neighborhood Wor-

will spend two weeks with their host-
esses.
Stook of Barley Struck by Lightning
This district received another good
rain last Wednesday. The rain was
accompanied by an electrical storm
which was rather close at times. Ra-
ther art unusual thing was the fact
that a stook of barley was struck and
burned completely in the field just be-
hind Geo. Cook's barn at the north
of the village.
Alex. Manning had a very success-
ful raising Thursday when he had the
framework of his chopping mill raised,
Mrs. David Scott has returned home
from a pleasant visit with relatives
in Manitoba.

C. R. Coultes shipped a carload of
cattle on Monday and spent Tuesday
in Toronto.
The Happy Heart Mission Band
and the Women's Missionary Society
of Knox United: Church are holding
a picnic at the home of Mr. Jno. S.
Scott on Friday afternoon and all the
children are invited to attend. Please

Annie Herbison
The death occurred on Friday ev-
ening of Annie Herbison, wife of Mr.
William IvtcElroy, in het 77th year.
Deceased had been confined to her
home for the past year through ill-
ness, She .is survived by her husband
and, two sons, Herbert and Leslie, al-
so one sister, Mrs. Thomas McElroy
of town, one brother, in the West,
The funeral service was held on Mon-
day afternoon at her home, condttcted
by Rev. R, A. Brook, pastor of Queen
St. United Church, During the service

The August meeting` of the Wo-
men's Institute will be held on Thurs-
day afternoon and the girls of the
community will present an interesting
programa
Miss Elizabeth Mills, A.T.C.M., is
spending her holidays at Grand Bend,
At the meeting held to discuss the
advisability of having a swimming
pool and recreation ground, the pro-
perty west of the Queen St. bridge
was selected and the following com-
mittee are in charge: Messrs. Russell
,Shaw, Elwin Munroe, John Ferguson,
W. N. Watson, V. M. Bray, j. H. R.
Elliott and .Wtn, Thuell. The commit-
tee are hard at work with our local
firemen and are putting on a dance
on Wednesday evening, proceeds to
aid in the work of beautifying the
grounds. Citizens who care to help
with this work on a community wel-
fare basis, are asked to get in touch
with the committee.
Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Colclough
and son,. of Waterford, visited friends
here and at Wingham for a few days.
A number of our citizens took in
the races at Goderich on Monday..
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hollyman spent
the week -end with friends at Inger
sol and Waterdown.
Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Hoover have
returned from Manitoulin • Island
where they spent several months with
their daughter, Mrs. Norman White-
man.

were calling on old friends on Friday.
