HELD SPLEN- DID SESSION .Representative of Travellers' Aid Soc. • iety Told of Society's Work. The August meeting of the W. M. S. of the Gorrie United Church was held at Mrs. Wylie's home on, Thurs- day afternoon, Aug. 3rd. Mrs, J, Hyndman presided. The meeting op- ened by singing "We have heard a Joyful Sound", and the Lord's Prayer in unison, Psalm XCI was read res- ponsively. Two verses of "The Morn- ing Light is Breaking" were then sung. The topic being Trinidad, Mrs. Hamilton •gave an instructive paper on the products of the island and the missionary work being done there. Miss Young of the Travellers' Aid Society, London, then entertained, giving several experiences of her work • and telling how helpful their work was in shielding the woman who travelled from the pitfalls that might overtake •them. Another verse of the last hymn was then sung, and. Mr. Butt introduced Chapter 7 of the study book, The Spiritual side of China, To Believe or Not to Believe. What appeals to them most is the Love of Christ, His Gal- • lilean ministry, His humble personal- ity, His self-sacrificing spirit. The society was then led in prayer by Miss Ramage and Mrs. Hamilton. The President took the chair for the business giving words of appreciation • to the guest speaker and program committee, Minutes were read and adopted. The Autumn Thank -Offering meeting was discussed. The Cor: Sec. was instructed to write a letter of sympathy to a sick member. It was :also recommended unanimously that a letter be written Premier Hepburn and Commissioner E. G. Odette that • "We most strenuously object to a li- cense to sell beer and wine being giv- en to anyone in our community." Roll call was answered by .some -verse on "Courage." In the the little town of Carbeil in nor- thern Ontario, the quintuplets of Mr, and Mrs. Dionne with the skillful aid of Dr. A. R, Dafoe and his assistants are making history. The quintuplets are now over two months old and ev- cry day increases their chances for life. Never before in the annals of medical history have quintuplets liv- ed. to this age and the interest of the whole world is centred on the little Dionne home. Mrs. Joseph Neill There passed away at her late }some n Gorrie on Thursday, August 2nd, another of our pioneers, Mary Jane Arneil, widow of the late Joseph Neill in her 80th year, The late Mrs. Neill was born in Lanark County. Coming with her parents at four years of age to Hur- on County to settle near Lakelet in, Howick, in which toWnship she has spent about sixty years of her life, laving lived for fifteen years in Turn - berry. 'Edith Mary Johnson A sad death occurred last Thursday, August 2nd, when Miss .Edith Mary Johnson, of Toronto, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Johnson, of Eng- land, died in the Wingham Hospital. The deceased, who was in her 39th year, , had been visiting with her friend, Miss Mae Walters at her home northeast of Gorrie, and had been un- der medical care, but was not thought serious.
