Mrs. Sterton Ashton spent a few
days last week with Mrs. Radford at
Walton.
Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Fennel and
daughter, of Toronto, are visiting
friends in Gorrie and vicinity.
Master Ivan Balers of Millbank, is
visiting with his grandparents, Mr.
and Mrs. Jack Balers.
Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Edgar left
on Sunday for a few days' visit in
Toronto before returning to their
home in Webley, Alta.
Mrs. Brewster, of Toronto, is visit-
ing her friend, Miss Annie Douglas.
Many Gorrie citizens were pleased
to renew the acquaintance of Mr. Ler-
vellyn Andrew, of Prince Albert, on
Thursday last, who left Gorrie over
twenty years ago. He was accompan-
ied by Mr. L. Stephenson, of Kiltore.
While in town they were entertained
at the home of Miss j, P. Stinson.
Sunday School Picnic Thursday
The Sunday School Union Picnic is
being held in the Agricultural Park
here on Thursday when the sports be-
gin at 2.30, foot and novelty races will
be run, softball games between Mont-
gomery's Pets of Orangehill, Gorrie
Grenadiers and the U.F.O. Highland-
ers, will be played; bicycle races and
last but not least -Lunch.
For those who are taking the sew-
ing course sponsored by the Gorrie
Women's Institute, and. which begins
on Mortda,y, July 30th, at 2,30 p.m.
The instructress reqeusts they bring
with them 1 skein colored D. M. C.,
tape-encasure, scissors, thimble, pins,
needles, thread, chalk, ruler, note-
book, pencils, -1 yard of cotton for
practice work.
Rev, McGillivray of Ashfield, will
occupy the pulpit of the Presbyterian
Church on Sunday next, with Miss
Katherine Campbell, returned mis-
sionary, from Neetnuch, India, after
40 years in this work, will occupy the
pulpit during August,

Miss Margaret McKee of Wingham

Mrs. Raine has •for the past couple
of weeks been employed at the home
of Mr. W. G. K. Hamilton where she
has been nursing Mr. Fred Sharpin,
who has suffered a bad case of blood
poisoning.

tending High School in Chatsworth,
for the past term, is spending her va-
cation with her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Harry Hastie.
Miss Alma Hastie and Miss Jean
Black of Kitchener and Gorrie, are
spending this week in Chicago.
Mr. and. Mrs, Austin Hawthorne and
baby daughter, of Molesworth were
visitors at the latter's home, Mr. and
Mrs. R. Cathers on Saturday.
We are glad to report that Mrs.
John Miller, who underwent an op-
eration for appendicitis in Pahnerston
hospital last week, is improving nice-
ly.
Rev. Stanley Johnston and family
of Luean visited at his home on Mon-
day of this week.
INSTRUCTIVE SESSION
OF WOMAN'S ASSOC.
Some forty ineinbers and visitors
were entertained at the home of Mrs,
Harvey Sparling, President of the
Woman's Assoc. of Gorrie United_
Church on Thursday afternoon last.
The President occupied the chair dur-
ing,, the meeting, which opened with
hymn 394, and prayer by the Pastor,
who also. read the Scripture lessen,
:Proverbs 16! 16,33. The president led
in an interesting discsusion on "The
analities of an Ideal Mother" when
the varietis problems of child training
were broguht forth and discussed
from different angles, and tlie ways
ati ideal Mother would and should
deal with the foremost question of
today. It was decided that "Love and
Firmness" be one of the very essen-
tial qualities of the ideal mother. The
discussion was followed by several
short readings pertaining to the ..sub-
ject and were as follows "Frankness"
by Miss Bessie Wylie; "Right Uses"
by Mrs. W. Whitfield; "Go on" by
Mrs. Dickson; "My Creed" by Mrs.
Butt, and another by Mrs. Carson on
the same subject, after which Miss
Jean Sparling sang "Higher Ground"
accompanied at the piano by her ano-
ther. Following the business period,
the meeting closed with hymn 357 and
the Benediction. Refreshments con-
cluded the profitable afternoon.
WROXETER
Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Moffat and
family spent the week -end in Niagara
Falls.
Mr. Piper, Biggar, Sask., is visiting
his granddaughter, Mrs. Lorne Kaake.
Mrs. Lorne Seifert, and young sons,
Fred and Jack, spent a few days last
week with Mr. and Mrs. John Gibson.
Miss Jessie Paulin is a guest of her
sister, Mrs. Brown, Gorrie.
Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Rann visited
London friends over the week -end.
They were accompanied by their
grandsons, Barrie and Jack, who had
been holidaying here.
Mr. Edward Gibson, 'Watford, spent
the week -end with his mother, Mrs.
Thomas Gibson.
Dr. John Munroe, Toronto, spent
the week -end at his home here. He

who is taking a summer course at To-
ronto University, payed a flying trip
to his home on Thursday.
Dr. Harry Hobbs, Toronto, spent
the week -end with friends in town.

ily left for Cannington Sunday morn-
ing where they will visit friends and
attend a family re -union on Monday.
Mr. Cooper, of Harriston, is at pre-
sent visiting friends in town.
After spending a few days with
friends in Detroit, Mr. and Mrs. Robt.
Gibson returned home on Wednesday
of last week.

their eldest daughter, Lauretta Pearl,
to Allan N. Munroe, son of Mrs. Jan-
et Munroe, and the late Alex. Munroe
of Wroxeter, the marriage to take
place quietly, early in August

A delightful Ten and Shower was
given on Friday afternoon at the
home of Miss Mae Davidson, in hon-
or of Miss Laura Wright, who mar,
riage to Mr. Allen Munroe, takes
place this week.
The guests numbering about thirty,
assembled on the lawn where refresh-

ments were served at small tables
each centred by a vase of summer
flowers, by a group of friends with
Mrs, G. A. Wearring presiding over
'the tea table,
Later all retired to the living room
where a 4'Horn of Plenty" was ar-
;ranged and filled with gifts, express-
ing the good wishes of those present.
