LOCALS.ACCEPTED
BY BRUCE LEAGUE
Annual Meeting Long -Winded Affair
Three representatives of the Wing -
ham Baseball Club journeyed to Pais-
ley Thursday night and formally ap-
plied for admittance to the Bruce
Baseball League at the annual meet-
ing held in that village. Kincardine,
Lucknow and Paisley, also applied for
re -admittance to the loop, and aloitg
with Winghain, were accepted to
membership. Kincardine and Paisley
seemed uncertain as to whether or not
they would actually play in the loop,
due to some rather vague and, we
consider, foolish dislike to the 0.B.
A.A. Personally, as they will be play-
ing the same , teams irregardless of
whether the league plays 0.B.A.A. or
indepeedant ball, we can't see what
all the rumpus is about. In fact, we
think it only right that -the Bruce
League which is admittedly one of
the best intermediate leagues in the The locale have a fine territory to
country, should. participate in the Pro-
yincial play-offs.

GUILD HEARS FINE
LECTURE 9N INDIA
, The Westminster Guild of St. An-
drew's Presbyterian Church held its
last ineeting of the season on Mon-
day evenings, April 30, in the Sunday
School room with a large Member pre-
sent:
After singing the hymn t "Hark,
hark, my soul", Scott Mitchell read
the „Scripture lesson followed by the
reading of the minutes. Hymn 470,
"Nearer My 'God, to Thee" was sung
following which the Rintoul Brothers
rendered a guitar duet, and Miss A.
Williamson and Miss M. MacDonald
sang a duet "The Sweetest Name."
The Fresident.introduced the speak-
er of the evening, Rev. David Porter
' of Ipslanti, Mich., who as a Y.1e1.C.A.
secretary during war time, spent con-
siderable \tante in the East and ,with
first-hand knowledge and magnificent
slides, the speaker :took his listener
on a very interesting trip throughout
the length and breadth of India.
India, the land of variety and con-
trast, the land of sting -eine and Sur-
.
prise, the land of extreme poverty on
one hand, and fabulous' wealth and
grandeur on the other.
Mr._ Porter showed anany slides,
portraying the various modes of trans-
portation, every kind from the rudese
caradra.wn by a water buffalo, to the
finest Victoria and pair.' The street
scenes were interesting, showing the
throngs of people, artisans at work in
their stalls, and the merchant display-
ing his wares on the pavement. The
ever-present holy cows who lie down
air without any visible result, After;
the orators had got their long pent-
up ideas off their chests the' business
at hand was disposed of handily.
Numerous- executive and sub -com-
mittee meetings for which those at -
tending were payed 20 cents per, mile
anywhere they choose and must never
be disturbed.
Many beautiful views of Calcutta,
showing the handsome public build-
ings, temples of carved' stone, carved
:marble and Mosaic work, the Mus-
eum, the Botanical and Zoological
gardens, which are among the finest
in the world.
Our speaker then took us north to
Agra, the seat of the great Mogul
Dynasty. Here surrounded by tre-
mendous carved sandstone walls Ak-
bar the Great built a city that was im-
pregnable in those times, and has nee
ver been equalled.in beauty since. The
intricate carving, mosaic and inlay
work found in all the buildings is un-
excelled, except in the temple which
Akbar's son built to the memory of
compensation, had whittled the league
receipts from over $1500 down to $40.
Nuinerons other, ites such as um-
pires, balls, /club mileage, etc., helped
in this drastic cut, but in the main it
was felt that .in the future such meet-
ings would be much less frequent if
the club requesting such a meeting
paid its own way and otHer delgates
from the various clubs be paid 10c a
mile one way. The Reach ball wag
adopted as official for 1934. This
company gives a trophy with each
12 dozen ball purchased and in this
way two cups were secured, one for
senior and one for junior competition.
Kincardine and Paisley definitely en-
tered. kinior teams and it would not
be a bad idea for Wingham to do
likewise if some sportsmen would help
the youngsters out a little. Only in
this, way can a team be built up for
the future.
As the Winghani team as yet had
no vote the repre.santatiyes were un-
able to vote for any of the league
officers. The schedule meeting is' to
be held Thursday,•May 3rd in Walk-
erton and the locals will have to at-
tend this meeting if they want to com-
pete this year. Lucknow delegates
were desirous of playing all teams in
the league including "Lefty" , Gold-
with's great aggregation, and we
really believe they have the rightidea.
Neither Wingham nor Leicknows will
win the league title.this year, but both
have young clubs and ex.periegce can
°illy be gained by &ink mit and lak-
'ng the occasionaLbeating from. a real.
good" club. Besides everyone knows
that Goldsmith is the greatest draw -
his beautiful wife. The Taj Mahal is
a dream of beauty and cannot be des-
tribed by any who see it. The pic-
tures were, especially good, and did
give the listeners some idea of this
magnificent temple.
Nearby is Delhi, rebuilt seven tirn-
es, ieow the political capital of India
and very fine, architecture, is to be
found here.
He showed many slides of the-vae-
lolls Gods of India, and a large tern -
pie at Madura in the south of India,
which covers 25 actes, is the most em-
bellished with carvings of any of the
temples of India. Here is the hall of
