sons, Eric and Donald, accompanied
by :Jim Durnin and Donald Campbell

the boat: Their weight was too much

for the craft which upset and threw
the four boys into the water... Eric
Schatte and. Ji,rn Durnin could swim
and. were not .in any great danger,
but . Donald Schatte, abaut 4 years
old, and Donald Campbell, 8, years,
could not swim.. Donald' Campbell
succeeded in hanging on to the side
of the boat; Donald Schatte got back
on the. boat but fell off again, and
had gone down twice. when Frank
Angus and Billy Seddon,' who were
in a boat nearby pulled, him from the
water and rescued the other boys and
took them to shore. • ..
Jim, Durnin and Donald ' Canipbell
seampered away home ivhile Eric and
Donald Sthatte Waited at Bert •El-
liott's tilltheir father drove them
home. What might have proved a
serious -accident turned out to .be no
more than a. thrilling experience. for
the boys.

OBITUARY
Hutton .
Another pioneer of this district has
passed on to his reward in the person
of John Hutton, of Beluevaie, whose
death occurred 'at his home on Tues-
day, August 8th. Up until this spring
despite his advanced years, Mr. Hut-
ton had been enjoying fairhealth but
since that time has been feeling poor -
ly. A week ago he was confined to
his bed and gradually became weak-
• -
er until .death brought relief, Bora
in 1848 at Bannockburn, Scotland, he
came to Canada as a child of seven
with his parents, who settled at. God -
erich. Five years later theY, moved
to the 10th of Turnberry, where ' he
resided until 1908. From then until
1922 he was a Missionary for the
Presbyterian Church in the Rainy
distaict, He then retired to Blue-.
vale where he has since resided, ,,As
a niember Of the Presbyterian Church
he always took an active part in the
work Of the church. ' .

to Mary Hatigh, of the .9th of Turn-
beery and tao 'years ago they cele-
brated their diamond wedding, .'
Surviving him besides' his widow

Harold, Windsor; Mrs. W. J. Camp-
bell, lOtli of Tia•riberry; Mrs. , Lou
Beninger, Chapple, Rainy River Dia-
trict. One daughter, Mrs. George
Campbell, predeceased him in 1922.
The funeral will be held on Thurs-
day afternoon at 2 pan. from Kinax
Presbyterian Church, 'Bigaevale, the
service being conducted by the Rev,
William Patterson, The pallbearers
will be: James and ,John Campbell,
Ivan and David Haugh, Preeeer and

James Thornton was well known in
the district, He brie& keen interest in
all sporting 'activities 'and was vice-
president of the Lakeside Baseball

Last Friday evening • five • local
pairs attended the Mixed Doubles in
Listowel and made it a real 'Wing-
ham night by winnieg all the paize's.
The first prize was won , by Mr
and Mrs. Jack Mason, the secolad
'prize by Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Craw-
ford, and the third went to Mr a and
Mrs, W. A. Miller. ' .
A Mystery prize was given for
