Dr. Harold Robinson, of Walker-
ton and Dr, Wilfred Robinson; Tor-
onto, also Mrs. Cecil Wheeler, Mor-
ris, have been in attendance of their

brother-in-law, Mr. John Kilpatrick
of Crewe last week. He has been
very low with pneumonia, but is now

showing signs of some improvement.
Mr. John McMillan was .:hipping
several cars of fat cattle on Satur-
day. •

Little Miss Pearl Creighton, who
spent some time this summer at the
home of her aunt, Mrs. J. D. Bee-
croft, went through. an operation . for
appendicitis in Seaforth Hospital on
Monday night last and is now im-
proving nicely.
We are pleased to note that Misses
or Olive and Doreen Purdon passed
1 their Entrance. Miss Olive passed
with first class honors. We congrat-
ulate them.

Little Lois Johnston of E. Wawa -
nosh, also Johnston and. Denton
Moore, of Toronto, are holidaying at
the home of their ,grandparents, Mr.
and Mrs. John Johnston.
Miss Ella Waddell met with a
painful accident last week, when she
was cleaning a lamp chimney it broke
and gave her a deep cut' across the
face of her hand, necessitating medi-
cal attention.
Mr. and Mrs. John Johnston and
Miss Mabel ,and their grandchildren,
spent Sunday with Mrs. Johnston's
sister, Miss Martha Casemore, Wing-
bam,
Mr. Wm. Fisher spent the past two
weeks at Williamsburg, where he has
been taking treatments,
Mr. Duncan Kennedy ;started out
with his threshing outfit on Monday.
Miss Fanny Patterson, of Toronto,
also Rev. and Mrs. J. Mundell and
children of Detroit, are holidaying at
the home of their brother, Mr. F.
McK, Paterson.
Mrs. Morris of Hamilton is visit-
ing with Mrs. Duncan. Kennedy, On
Sunday they motored to Silver La1:e
where they met Mr. and Mrs. Stanley
of Chesley.
Mr. and Mrs. Steele and children
of f'or'e Huron, spent Sunday at the
home of her parents, Mr. Robert
Thompson, 'who is very ill at present.
Many in this district will be sorry
to learn ofi the illness of Mrs. Ed.
Browning of Rincardine, formerly cf
Whitechurch. She is suffering from
sun -stroke which afflicted her while
working in the ehot-house..
Mrs. Kennedy and children, Sarnia, 11
spent' the week=end with her sister,
Mrs, Lance Grain.
Mrs. David Currie spent a day last
week at the home of her daiughter,
Mrs. Russel Gaunt.
Mr. Cecil Bradhead also Mr. and
Mrs. Suggitt and children, Toronto,
spent Sunday at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. George i1vlcClenaghan. The men
returned to Toronto that day, but the,
others are visiting with relatives.

Women's inllstitute Splendid' Meeting

en's
etas Institute held a very interesting.
meeting at the- home.of Mra. J' M,
Friday. Coultes I'iuday. Mrs, Jas. Taylor, ilx.e
president, presided. This meeting, was
ander 'the leadership of the Commun-
ity Activities Committee, and an in-
structive address was given by Miss
Lilia Taylor on "Building Lip The
Community," in which she stressed

ly, mentally and spiritually. Roll call
was answered by stating "one thing
our community needs." The motto,
"On the great clock of time there is
just one word 'Now'," was taken by
Mrs. J. M. Coultes; current events.

and community singing wasalso en-
joyed. Miss Sara Cole gave a couple
of piano solos. The reports from the
district • annual were also given. A
social time was'.- spent when ,lunch
was served by the hostess, assisted
by Mrs. F, McCallum, Mrs. G. Hig-
gins' and Miss Cela Coultes.
Knox United S. S. Picnic
The Sunday School of Knox Unit-
ed Church held a very successful pic-
nic at the river at the home of Mr,
and Mrs. Jas. Breen, when there was
.the usual picnic activities of softball
games and races. Brick United
Church Sunday School accepted the
invitation to join with the Belgrave
Sunday School so that a social time
was enjoyed. -
Mrs. Edgar, of Detroit, is a visitor
at the home of Mr. J. T.. Coultes,
Miss Minnie Anderson, of Toronto,
has been visiting with relatives here:

Knox W. M. S. Enjoy Picnic
Friday afternoon the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Peter S., 'MacEwen, 2nd
concession T&urnberry, was the scene
of a happy gathering when the W.
M. S, of Knox Presbyterian Church
sponsored a picnic. The programme
for the afternoon consisted of games
and races of different kinds, suitable
for both young and old-•ancl were en-
joyed by all. The older men ent

all joined in community singing with
Rev. William Patterson as leader, af-
ter which the ladies served a basket
lunch.

Nicholson and Eunice Thornton were
successful in passing the Entrance
Examinations. The first two named
received honors, '
HERE AND THERE
Under the auspices of L.O.L. 428,
Lucknow, the members assembled at
the home of Mrs. Peter Torrance on
Monday evening last to selp celebrate
the birthday of Mr. Wm. Miller who
is 93 years of age. The society pre-
sented' Mr. Miller with a recognition
pin of the Royal -Arch Degree. "Hap-
py Billy" (as he is known) is the old-
est Orangemen in connection with
the lodge he became a member of,
in Province of .Ontario. Mr, Miller
has all signs of longevity yet which
the ladies proved by the blowing of
the candles with one breath. The ev-
ening was brought to a close by sing-
ing "God bewith you till me meet
again "
