A father and his little boy were
having a discussion on legal matters.
"What is a retaining fee?"' asked
the little boy.
Father replied:' "A retaining fee is
a fee paid to a lawyer before he will
undertake to do any work for a client.
"Oh!" said the little boy, "like put-
ting a quarter in a meter before you
get any gas."
"Why did you signal me to choose
the little man, mother? The other
had a much better face."
"Face! When you pick a man to
work in your garden you want to go
by his trousers. If they're patched
on the knees, you want him; if they
are patched on the seat, you don't,"
Hee: "Sorry, old chap, but I'm
looking for a little financial succour
again."
Haw "You'll have to hunt farther'.
I'm not the financial sucker I used
to be."
"And is your daughter happily
niarried?"
"Oh, yes! --Her Husband is 'scared:

his jacket and threw it over some
mod forher to walk on."
"Did he speak to Qtieeii Elizabeth?
asked the father.
"Yes," came the unexpected reply:
"He said, 'Step on it, baby!'`"
Sambo was ,hired on a railway
gang. At the close of the first shift
he was all tired out and sought the
boss:
"Mister, yo' sho' yo' allgof me
down on the pay -roll?"
"Sure," said the boss. "Here's your
naine--.Satnbo Simpson, That's it?"
"Yes, sub," replied Sambo. "Ali
