Young People Hear Talk on
Temperance
Miss Duff, Field Sec'y of the W.
C.T,U., was the geust speaker at the
Young People's League here Wed-
nesdayev ening when she gave a very,
enlightening addrss on Temperance.
Another added feature to the already
interesting program was a solo by
Mr, W, J. Earngey.
Women's Institute May 17th
The Gorrie Women's Institute will
hold their May meeting in the twp.
hall on Wednesday, 17th, when the
Govt.Speaker, Mrs. Laura Rose Ste-
phens will be the guest speaker. The
Wroxeter and Fordwich Institutes as
well as the Rutman .Girls of Ford-
wich, will be their guests. The ladies
of the community are also invited to
attend the meeting.
Mrs. Robert Hayes
Friends and neighbors were shock-
ed to learn of the sudden death of
Mrs. Robert Hayes, on Wednesday,
May 3rd. She had been ailing for a
time with anaemia, but it had not
been considered serious. She leaves
four small childern, the baby, being
hardly three week old when the mo-
ther was taken away.
The funeral service which was con-
ducted by Rev. ginley of Wroxeter,
was held on Saturday from her late
residence on the 13th con. of Howick.
ST. STEPHEN'S W. A.
HOLD MEETING
A meeting of the Women's Auxil-
iary of St. Stephen's Anglican church,
Gorrie, was held at the residence of
Mrs. Holmes, on Thursday last, when
the work of the afternoon was piec-
ing quilts. The roll call was respond-
ed to by each, presenting their annual
Thank -Offering, after which matters
of business were discussed. Mrs. G.
King read an interesting account of
how Christmas was Spent in the In-
dian School in Alberta, to which the
bales of this Society are sent . every
year, also a reading "Where Our W.
A. Dollars Go."
The Scripture' reading and prayers
were then conducted by the •Presi-
dent, after which a very dainty lunch
was served by the hostess.
W. M. S. HOLD
SPLENDID MEETING
The May meeting of the W. M. S.
of the Gorrie United Church was held
at the home of the President, Mrs.
R. A. Ashton on Thursday, afternoon.
The meeting opened with the hymn
"Lord, Speak to me that I night
Speak". The Scripture lesson, 1 Cor.
chap. 12, was read by Mrs. Ramage
and all repeated the .Lord's . Prayer.
"The Morning Light is Breaking
was sung before the topic which was
"Work Among, the Indians"` was giv-
en, Mrs. Walter Siznson giving .a
sketch of the work done in Cote's
Improved School in Saskatchewan
where 29 pupils are on the roll. These
apt pupils both at school and at home
are visited twice a year by a Govern-
ment nurse. Six of these Indian boys
have joined the church by profession
of faith, which the speaker pointed.
