Mrs. Clarence Russel and little son
Clarence, who have been visiting with
her mother, Mrs. MacGregor during
the pastweek, returned to her home
in Waubausherie on Saturday.

on Friday last, the subject being, re-
solved "That Japan was justified in
invading Manchuria."
On account of the illness of the.
teacher, Miss E. A. MacDonald, there
was no school in S. S. No. 14, West
Wawanosli last week.,
Mr. and Mrs. Melbourne Cox are
leaving the village shortly to take gip
farming. near Goderich.
Several telephones in this district
were cut off lest week when the tele-
phone people made their rounds.
Mr. Harold Sperling finished his
course at Guelph last week.
Mr: Jas. Ross, of Holyrood, spent
Friday, last with his brother, Mr. R.
J. Ross and his sister, Miss Cathar-
ine Ross.
Miss Marjorie Purdon, little dau-
ghter of Mr. and Mrs. Robt. Purdon,
was severely scalded on her right
arm and spots on her left arm > and
knee on Saturday, when the bottom
fell out of a bottle into, which one
of the older .children was pouring
boiling water. Her arm has been very
painful, but is now improving.
A pleasant evening was spent at
the United Church on Friday. After
a short musical prograrn, the lantern
slides were thrown on the screen and
were much enjoyed by all, The seen -
es were beauty spots in Ontario and
the Prairie provinces, others of the

The Young People of Charmer'
Church held a social evening on Fri-
day last when Rev. K. MacLean of
Wingham, was present and gave an
address on the book "Looking For-
ward." Several musical ,numbers and
readings completed an interesting
program.; Lunch was served and a
social half-hour much enjoyed by all.
Several from here visited with Mrs.
George Tiffin of Kinloss on Monday
and helped to quilt a quilt.'
Mrs. A. Emerson left on "Monday
to visit with relatives in Toronto for
a week. k

well -presented in the Foresters' Hall
on Tuesday evening by a . group of
young ,people from the United
Church, Londesboro. All the parts
were well taken and the whole play
was enjoyed. Musical numbers were
given between. acts; The play was
given under the auspices of the An-
glican' Church, Belgrave.
Mrs. R. McCrae, of Londesboro,
spent a couple of days with relatives
here.
C. R. Coultes shipped a car load
of cattle to Toronto on Saturday and
spent the week -end in the city.
POSTPONED SOCIAL
ENJOYABLE EVENT
A very pleasant social evening was
held by . the members of the Pres-
byterian Church in the Foresters'
Hall, Belgrave Friday m '.^ t. This ev-
ent was postponed oat accent of the
fire two weeks ago. <Mr. A. Porter-
field acted as chairmanand introduc-
ed the following 'program: musical
number by Orchestra, duet by Gar-
ner Nicholson and John L. Stewart;'
dance by Merle Anderson, solo, Mrs.

Orchestra; duet, Freda Jordan and
May Young; readings, • Margaret
Coulter; solo, Nora VanCamp; song,
Clifford Logan. Number .by Orches-
tra.
Garnes and contests were also en-
joyed after which lunch was served
and a very pleasant evening brought
to a close.

ness trip to Stratford on Saturday.
Miss Jean Anderson, of Ashfield,
was a week -end visitor with her sis
ter, Mrs. Harvey Webb.
Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Salkeld were
at Clinton on Friday for the meeting
of the Fruit Growers' Association.
Mrs. Elliott Miller, of Lucknow,

United Church were the guests of the
Y.P.S. of the United Church, Wing-
ham, on Monday evening. The visit-
ing Society provided the ,program.
Owing to sickness in the village
the singing class, was cancelled last
week,
Friends of Mr. John Hutton will
regret to know that he is in very
poor health.

ORANGE SOCIAL
GREAT SUCCESS
The social evening held in the Or-
ange Hall, Bluevale, last week un-
der the auspices of the L.O.L. was
quite `a success.
'The chair was occupied by A. D.
Smith, W.M., and H. J.. Stewart gave
the address of welcome. Short ad-'
dresses were given by'`W. J. Hend-
erson, W.M.' of the, Wingham Lodge,
andthetwo local Ministers, Rev. W.
Patterson and Rev. A. E. Mann. The
main featureof:: ,the ,evening was:an
•address and lantern pictures by Mr.
Neill, of Gorrie. The greater num-
ber of the pictures•, being taken by
the speaker, while on a trip through
Northern Ontario, giving a splendid.
view of the scenery through the nor-
thern part of the Province. These
were greatly enjoyed.
Some young men from Wingham
favored the" company with several
mouth organ selections, Refresh-
ments were served at the close of the
program. _ •
