Mr. and Mrs. John Webster enter- tained their relatives and neighbours on Wednesday evening last. They bad all their family at home for the holidays and a good time was enjoy- ed by all. Mrs. Patterson, of Lucknow, spent' the New Year's holiday with Miss' Ida and Mr. George McQuoid. Mrs. A. Reid. left on Sunday to stay with her daughter, Mrs. Balfour,' of Lucknow, who with Nurse Free, of Dungannon, were in a motor ac- cident on Saturday, Mrs. Barfour be- ing cut about the face. Mrs. A. McQuaid. attended the funeral of the late Mr. Hugh Finnigan, of Crewe, on Monday: Misses Irene and Mable and Mr. Lorne Woods, of St. Helens, visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Farrier on Sunday. Mrs. Haggitt, of Blyth, is spend- ing a few days this week with her mother, Mrs. A. Emerson, and she and her mother and James spent New Year's with Mr .and Mrs. Victor Em- erson, of Kinloss. Carl Vanner and John Corbick, of Wingham spent their holidays at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Amos Cornel- ius, Mr. Treleaven,. of Lucknow, organ- ized a rabbit hunt on Monday, and about fifty men took part in the hunt, They succeeded in bagging over 100 �. 1 rabbits in Ashfield. Those from here who attended this afternoon's sport were. Kenneth Weaver, Price Scott, Wilfred Jacques, Robert Carrick and Amos Cornelius, and they brought home nine rabbits. t.. Robinson and Wilfred spent a few days last week with Dr. and Mrs. Harold Robinson, of Walk- erton. Miss Eileen McClenaghan spent last week with her grandmother, Mrs. Jas. Barbour; of Fordyce. Miss. Agnes Wilson, nurse -in -train- ing in Stratford Hospital, spent the week -end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Wilson. Mr. and Mrs. Wrn. Garton and son: of Leamington, have been visiting with relatives here during the past two weeks. Miss Genevieve Watt, of Long :Branch, is visiting at the home of Mr. Wm. Barbour and Miss Muriel Watt returned to her home on Fri- day. Word was received here on Tues- day morning that the barn of Mr. Jack Henderson, of Paramount, was en fire. The extent of the damage was unknown at time of writing. Mr, and Mrs. Thos. Gaunt and Miss Merle and Harold, visited one day last week with Mr. and Mrs. Green, of Ceeswater. Mr: and Mrs, Bert :I3oyd left last Tuesday for their home in Mount Forest,. Quite •a number attended the Eu- chre held in the Institute Hall Fri- day evening. S. of the United Church are holding their first Mis- sionary Tea at the home of Mrs. Fox ori Friday. BELGRAVE Sc. S. No; 17 "Annual Meeting I'he regular annual meeting of U,, S. S. No. 17 was held in the school last Wednesday morning, when a fair attendance was present. George Jordan was voted cltairinan for the meeting. The trustees' and 'auditors' reports were receivedand adopted. Mr. L Wheeler was re-elected to his position: as trustee, Several items of business . were left with the trustees to deal with and the meeting was closed. McKenzie, THE WINGHAM ADVANCE -TIMES Farnners' Club Plan Meetings A meeting of the executive of the Belgrave Farmers' ; Club suet at the t honi.e of Stewart Procter, the e Presi- dent, to arrange for the meetings for the next few months, The January meeting will be held at the home of C. R. Coultes on Tuesday, January 10th. The other places of meeting are: 3, 11I, Coultes, Cyrus Scott and James Michie*. It was deckled to hold checker contests at the meetings as well as other program. The 'con- test starts at 8,80 sharp. Lunch of sandwiches and coffee will be served. A very successful wood bee was held on Thursday afternoon when a number of friends and neighbors ga- thered together and cut a winter's supply of wood for Jas. Grigg who has been laid up for sonic time. Happy Heart Mission Band Elect Officers for 1932 The Happy Heart Mission Band of Knox United Church held their De- cember meeting' in the basement of the church when there was a good attendance present. The meeting op- ened.read- ing hymn 303, Scripture erred w t Y taken by Edith McClenaghan; hymn 423 was followed by the Lord's Prayer in unison. The Secretary and treasurer's reports were adopted. As this was the annual meeting the el- ection of officers was held and the following were elected: Pres., Mabel McCallum; vice Pres., Ken. Wheeler; Treasurer, Jim Coultes; Sec,, Wilma Breen; Assist., Edna Vincent; Organ- ist, Nora Wheeler; Assist., Freda Jordan; World Friend Seq., Ross An- derson. Anglican Social, Success A very successful social evening was held by the Anglican Church in the Foresters' Hall, Belgrave, when a good number were present.. The play "A Christmas Carol" was given and other program. The ticket on the quilt was drawn and the lucky win- ner was Miss M. Kennedy, of Ot- tawa, who spent some, time here with friends this summer. Games were prayed and lunch was served. C 0 F. Euchre Much Enjoyed The Euchre and Dance herd in the C.O'.F. hall Friday night was a de- cided success in spite of the wet ev- ening. The prizes for the most gam- es in euchre were von by Mrs, W. J. Cole and Graham Wray. The con- solation prizes went to Miss Louise Breen and Clark Johnson. Lunch was served and then dancing was enjoy- ed for a few hours. Kirkby's Orch- estra supplied the music. Mrs. Bast, of Toronto, spent the week -end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Forbes. Mrs. Bryant, of. Blyth, spent a few days with Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Bran- don. Sorry to say that James Grigg is still under the doctor's care. BLUE'VAL`_'"' United Church Mission Band Entertained A pleasant social time was enjoy- ed on Thursday afternoon when Mrs. George Gannett entertained the Mis- sion Band of the' United Church at her home. Among the guests were several members of the W.M.S. who spent the afternoon quilting a Mis- sion Band quilt. When the work was finished the hostess served refresh- ments, and all agreed that a very peasant and profitable time had been spent, Y.P.S. New Year's Social The annual New year's social un- der the auspices of the Y. P. S. of the United Church was held in the school room on Friday evening, with a large attendance. The early part of the evening was devoted to garnes and contests, after which all sat down to a ;bountiful banquet. When' this was partaken of a fine program was carried out, Toasts were proposed to the King, Rev. A. E. Mann and Mrs. IVXann, The caste of the play "No- Accottnt David" and the Y.P,S. of the Church all around the table join- ed in a sing -song and several mem- bets of the society gave speeches on Holidays visitors in the village: Mrs. Ida Wilson, Toronto, and ivtrs. Roger Oke, Winghant, with Miss Duff and Mrs. Aitken. The Misses Betty and Louise Lloyd, Wingham, with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs, L. H. Bosman. Many regret the .serious illness of, Mrs. (Rev.) McKenzie of Ripley. Mr. McKenzie was a much loved pastor of McIntosh and Belmore congrega- tions for a number of years. The meeting of the W. M. S. was held Wednesday afternoon at Miss Hakney's with ,an attendance of 13, with Mrs, Thomas Abraham as lead- er. The meeting opened with the singing of Nowell, after which Mrs. Abraham led in prayer. The topic was taken by different members, the collection amounted to almost $6.00. Mrs. John Darling visited her son,. Charles, at Molesworth, last week. The boys accompanied her home. Miss Blanche Irwin, of Toronto, is visiting her parents. Mrs. Jack Reid and Elva, of Wroxeter, also visited her parents Friday. and Saturday. Mr. Sterling Haskins and family spent Sunday at Albert's at McIn- tosh. Mr. and Mrs_ Teemish and Fred spent New Year's eve with the Mul- vey 1Iul-vey family. Miss Jean Lane gave a party to her young friends Tuesday evening. The New Year's meeting of the Women's Institute will be hed at the Manse the second Wednesday in the new year. WROXETER We are pleased to note that the Split Pea Mill is very busy making their Toasted Whole Wheat Berries, and they are a very fine product and recommended highly as a health food as the whole wheat is used. BELFAST Mrs. Sam Morrison spent the past week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. K. Alton. Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Taylor and sons, and Mr, and Mrs. Wm. Bald- win spent Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Hackett. Miss Cameron, of Toronto, spent Christmas with her sister, Mrs. Wrn, Twanrley, Miss Irene Woods of St. Helens, visited during the week with Miss Lena Hackett. Mr. T. A. Cameron is on the sick list. We hope to hear of his recov- ery quite soon. George Oliver will give the address, his sub- ject "The Consecration of Our Churches"; on Wednesday evening in, Queen St. United Church, with Rev. L. V. Pocock in charge.; Thursday evening in Trinity Church with Rev. Mr. Georges in charge; the meeting on ,Friday evening in St. Andrew's United will be in charge of tire Bible Society Representative. State The Government sprang a surprise with the sensational announcement that it had decided to dissolve the Dail Eir- eann and to hold the :general elec- tions January 24th. The decision was takenat a pro- longed Cabinet meeting, after which President de Valera, whose Govern- ment recently was assailed because of its stand on civil service pay re- ductions, informed newspapermen that the Dail had been dissolved and that the new Congress would meet February 8th. The president declared that the country's attitude towards the Gov- ernment's: program left no doubt that the Government enjoys the confi- dence of the electorate.
