MISS LESTER BY CHOIR
The choir of North Side ,United
'Church honored Miss Emily Lester
at the regular choir practice .meet-
ing Thursday evening, when Dr, F.
J. Burrows expressed the regret of
the choir at losing such a faithful
member, Miss Abbie Seip on behalf
.-.'of the choir presented Miss Lester
with a gift. Miss Turnbull and Miss
Winnie Savauge conducted an inter-
esting contest before lunch was serv-
ed. Mr. Jim Stewart, choir leader,
also expressed appreciation of Miss
Lester's efforts on behalf of the
choir. The evening was completed by
the singing of Auld Lang Syne.
ISABEL MCKELLAR
IS VALEDICTORIAN
Mr. and Mrs. M. McKellar were in
Stratford on June 6th attending
graduation exercises at Stratford
General Hospital when their daugh-
ter, Miss Isobel, graduated as a
nurse. They were accompanied by
Rev. R. H, Williams and Mrs. Wil-
liams, and also Mr. Gordon 1VIaKell-
ar of the C.N.R„ Toronto.
Nurse McKellar had the honor of
winning the award for surgical tech-
nique, a large silver entree dish don-
ated by Dr. W. C. Sproat, and the
laboratory award, a purse of money
donated by Dr, W. M. Gilmore, and
a Waterman pen and pencil set by
-the hospital staff.
Miss McKellar was valedictorian
and expressed gratitude to all who
had contributed to the success of
their years of training and had at
all times taken an interest in the
progress of the class. Appreciation
was also voiced to parents and relat-
ives who had given wholeheartedly
of their moral and material support.
Miss McKellar reminded her class-
mates to keep on striving to increase
'their efficiency.

In Huron -Perth
Dominion Voting on Monday
Gives Working Majority To
i Liberal Party
Mr. Wm. H. Golding of Seaforth
was re-elected for his fourth term as
member of the Dominion Parliament
in Monday's election in Huron -Perth.
The swing in Ontario towards the
Progressive Conservative party was
reflected in this riding by the close
run made by F1t, Lt. Thomas Pryde,
who reduced Mr. Golding's previous
majority from over two thousand ill
1940 to 512 in Monday's voting. The
vote at all polis was large.
G. A. Cann, of Exeter, C.C.F., lost
his deposit, failing to secure half as
many votes as the winning candidate.
The total vote for Mr. Golding was
6,483; for Mr, Pryde 4,971; for Mr.
Cann 287. The soldier vote is not
'included in these figures.
j Mr. Golding has bean a member of
, the Nouse of Commons since Oct. 3,
1932, His biggest majority on Monday
I was in Hay Twp., with 525. Mr.
1 Pryde's biggest majority was 402 in
!his home town of Exeter.
In North HIuron Mr. Elston Cardiff
of Morris township was re-elected for
his second term, by a greatly in-
creased majority of 1,521, as com-
pared to 40 4n 1940.

DIES AT BRACEBRIDGE
The death occurred at Brace
bridge on June 3rd of Mrs. Mary E.
Harrison, a native of McKillop, in
her 79th year, after an illness of
four years. Mrs. Harrison was a
daughter of the Mite Mr, and Mrs.
Edward' Sperling of McKillop, and
was married to Robert 3. Harrison
in 1909 when they went to live near.
Bracebridge. Her husband predeceas-
ed her in 1939 and she had since .
lived in Bracebridge. Surviving are
three sisters, Mrs. Wm, Shade,. Eg-
mondville; Albert Snarling, MciiiI-
lop; Alonzo Sperling, of Wroxeter;
Allen Sperling, of Cleveland, Ohio.

The death occured at his home in
Seaforth on Saturday of Rev. C. C.
Keine, retired minister of the Unit-
ed Church, in his 84th year, Mr.
Keine had served in the Methodist
and United Churches in - Bethel,
Whitechurch, Courtright, Browns-
ville, Granton, Londesboro, Cottam,
Thamesville. Dorchester, Atwood
and Dungannon.. He was 'born at
Dungannon but when a child his
parents had moved to Gorrie where
he spent much of his young life.
Surviving are a daughter and two
sons, Miss Luella, Ottawa; Dr. Mel-
bourne, Winnipeg, and Rev. Irving.
Keine, Dunnville. Funeral service
was held at. Northside United
Church, Seaforth, on Tuesday at
2:30 p.ni,, with interment in Har -
pulley cemetery, Rev. Mr, Lloyd of
St. Thomas, conducted the service„
assisted by Rev. Mr. Burton, Clinton,.
Rev. A, W. Gardiner, Egmondville,
and Rev. F. E. Clysdale, Ilderton.
Honorary pallbearers were: Revs. J.
E. J. Millyard, R. Hicks, S. L. Toll,
E. F. Armstrong, D. McTavish, H. V.
Workman. Pallbearers were elders of
Northside United Church: Dr. F. J.

HARRISON REUNION
The annual picnic of the Harrison
family, was held at Harbor Park,
Goderich, on Sat, June 9th. Among
those present. were some from Luck -
now, Clinton, Seaforth, Stratford,
Bruce'field; Bayfield, Exeter, Goder-
ich and London.
A program of races and contests
conducted by Mrs. Elliott Harrison
of Goderich and Olive E. Harrison of
London, occupied young and old dur-
ing the afternoon and a splendid
picnic supper brought the reunion to
a close. Officers were elected for
1946:: President, Herbert Harrison,
Kirkton; secretary -treasurer, Olive
E. Harrison, London. Directors, Al-
len Johns, Kirkton, Cecil Harrison,
Science Hill, Albert Pearson, Hay-

USED MILITARY TRUCKS -
AVAILABLE SOON
In response to a request by the
Ontario Federation of Agriculture,
used military trucks are soon to be
available for Huron county through
the co-operation of the War Assets
Corporation.
It will be up to the County Fed-
eration to ascertain the number of
trucks required. To facilitate this
the W.A. Corporation is preparing. a
pamphlet showing the type of trucks
available. Included in the pamphlet
is a blank form' upon which the far-
mer can indicate the -type of truck he
requires. and return the blank to the
county secretary. Prices and plans
to 'simplify distribution of the trucks
will be announced later.
Red Cross Notes
Don't forget the open meeting of
the Red Cross to be held in the
Separate School, Friday, June 15th,
at 8 o'clock. A splendid program
will be given. - -
A new quotahas been accepted:
50 babies' leggings (six months), 50
girls' sweaters (six years), 50 pairs
knee socks I(6 years), 50 pairs ladies;
gloves, 100 pairs socks (urgently
needed). The wool has arrived for
the above quota.

ener -Waterloo Hospital at Kitchener
on Saturday afternoon when the let-
ters niece, Miss Mildred Keys, daugh-
ter of Rev. and Mrs. J. M. Keys of St.
Marys, was one of the sixteen nurses
graduating. Following this a reception
was held at the nurses' residence,

TOWN COUNCIL MET
ON TUESDAY
Seaforth Town Council met in the
council chamber on Tuesday "evening
for the regular monthly meeting with
all members present. Mayor John J.
Cluff presided,
' Council decided to clean weeds out
a drain near Silver Creek. The re-
signation from the High School
Board of Mrs,. Milliken, who leaves
town this month, was regretfully ac-
cepted, and a new appointment will
be made, Reeve Daly gave a number
of sidelights on the county council
meeting held Tuesday afternoon, A
delegation had been present from
Clinton seeking a grant of $25,000 for
the Clinton hospital. The opinion had
been expressed that probably Sea -
forth and :Exeter would request simi-
lar grants and Goderich twice as
mach. Wingham has received a grant.
A petition in connection with dogs
running at large had been received,
and Clerk D. II, Wilson read out the
portions of the bylaw dealing with
dogs. Council decided to issue a gen-
eral warning requesting dog owners
to see their pets were not nuisances.
Councillor it G. Parke outlined the
steps taken by the fire and water
committee to have the batteries on
the fire alarm system replaced, and
the recorder put in working order.
DUBLIN
The Ladies' Guild of -St. Mary's
Anglican Church held their June
meeting at the home of Mrs. Leslie
Moore on Thursday, with an un-
usually large attendance. The pre-
sident opened -the meeting by sing-
( ing of the hymn, . "Jesus, Deep Me
Near the Cross." Rev. Mr. Gilbert
led in prayer and read the Scripture
lesson. Arrangements were discussed
for holding the anniversary of the
' church, the service to be held on
Sunday, June 17, at which Arch-
deacon Doherty of London will offic-
iate. Following the business routine
the meeting was closed with prayer.
Lunch was served by the hostess,
assisted by her daughters.

McKillop Township, celebrated their
40th wedding anniversary on Thurs-

which a family dinner was held at
their home in McKillop. Mrs.
O'Rourke, who was formerly Miss
Mary Ellen Flanagan, is the eldest
daughter of the late Mr, and Mrs.

O'Rourke were married in St. Col -1 Church on June 7, 1905, At
their anniversary they received tele-
grams of congratulations from three
daughters in Toronto who were un
able to be present. They have four
daughters: Mrs. Michael Murray,
McKillop; Mrs. William Ackroyd,
Mrs. Elwin Young and Mrs. John
Lerman all of Toronto; and three
sons, John, Daniel and Frank, Mc-
Killop.

The Women's Missionary Society
of Knox Presbyterian Church, Bay-
field, are holding their meeting in the
church. on Thursday afternoon.
The funeral of the late Cecil Hod-
gins, son of the late Rev. Rural Dean
Iloclgins, was held in the little Forest
Lawn Church, Glendale, Calif. The re-
mains will be interred in Stratford
cemetery. Prof, Lloyd Hodgins attend-
ed his brother's funeral.
The Orange Lodge are having a
special meeting in their hall to make
arrangements for. the 12th July -when
the Orangemen expect to celebrate
the 100th anniversary of Bayfield
Lodge,

The regular meeting of the

gasoline dealers and presented a
petition signed by 6 out of 7 dealers
or 85.74 asking the Couneil.to pass
a by -lacy, regulating the :hours for
the sale of gasoline on Monday,
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday,
Friday from 7 aim. to 7 pan; and on
Saturday from 7 a.m. to 10. p.ni.
and on Sunday one dealer remains
