Miss Dolly Carling of Windsor visited recently With Mr. and Mrs. N. m. Cook. Miss Mildred Jones of Kitchener, spent the weekend with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Norman Jones. Mr, Wm. Cook, or London visited recently with his mother. Mrs. Cath- arine Devlin. Institute Meets The May meeting of the Women's Institute will be held at the home o1 Mrs. W. A, MacLaren du Goderich, Mrs, Thomas Sherritt being co -host- ess, on Wed. May 9th. The special speaker will be Miss Barbara Michie. The roll call'to be answered with a verse for "Mother's Day." The motto "Canada, First, Last and Forever" is to be taken by Mrs. Abrin Kerslake. The current events will be taheit by Miss June Brandon, the recipe, by Mrs. Lloyd Noakes and Miss Greta Laramie will lead a patriotic singsong. Everyone desiring to attend this special meeting are to meet at the Town Hall at 7 p.m. when transport- ation will be provided. Mr. Jack Simmons of the R.C.N,V, R. Esquimalt B.C., is spending a 20 - day furlough at the bone of his mother, Mrs. Alda Simmons. London Lodge Visits Hensall On Monday evening Wor. Bro. Camp. Wor. Master of St. Johns' Lodge r3 A.F. & A.M., London. Ont.. visited Huron Lodge =D24 A.F. & A.M. War. Bro. Camp and officers of the degree team came up to Hensall Lodge and exemplified'the Ord degree in the Irish way. There was a very large attendance of members and visitors attended from Clinton. Car- low, Londesboro, Seaforth, Exeter, Lucan, Ilclerton, London. Oil Springs and -Barksdale. Wor. Bro. Dr. 0. G. Steer expressed sincere thanks to Mot'. Bro. Camp and team. The latter replied in a most suitable manner. The evening concluded with delicious refreshments. Mr. Roy Patterson of Toronto spent the weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R, J. Patterson. Mr. and Mrs. Cline Flynn of Lon- don'visited over the weekend with the latter's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Parkins. The LO.O.F. will attend divine worship at Carmel Presbyterian Church, Hensall, on Sunday, May 6th at 7. p.m. Mr. A. L. Case visited recently with Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Rosser at Denfield. Miss Stella Robson of Toronto is spending a few weeks at the home of her sister. Mrs. H. Arnold. Mrs, Bawden of Exeter, spent the weekend with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Far- quhar. arquhar. The Sunbeam Mission Band of Carmel Presbyterian Church, Hen- sall, presented numbers on the pro- gram at the meeting in Caven Presbyterian Church, Exeter, on Tuesday evening when Miss Lillian MacArthur was the guest speaker, A number of members of Carmel Church, Hensall, attended the meet- ing The Hensall Continuation School pupils will present a play entitled "Sonbonnet Jane From Sycamore Lane" in the Town Hall, Hensall, on Friday night, May 4th, Be sure and keep fhb date open and attend this play. Dawson was called to the home of her parent,, Mr. anti Mrs. Doan, in Inwood on Saturday where her father had suffered a heart at- tack. Mr. Doan passed away"the same day. Funeral services were held on Monday. Mrs. Dawson has the sym- pathy of her many friends here, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Halstead of Stratford visited with the latter's parents, 551'. and Mrs, T. Beecroft and little daughter of Belgvave visited with Mrs, 13eeeroft's parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. P.,Watson on Sunday, Mr. Thomas Chapman presented . the church here, with a baptismal font in loving remembrance of his wife, the late Mima Ross Chapman. ' Rev. G. F. N. Atkinson conducted the dedication ceremony at the mor- ning service last Sunday. The font was unveiled by two of Mrs. Chap - man's former Sunday .School class, Mrs. Ross Scott and Mrs. Jas, Thom- I son. This was followed by a very earnest and impressive sermon on Baptism by Mr. Atkinson. Mrs, Chapman was a daughter of the late John Burdge and Jane Iietchen, who were pioneer members of this con- g•regation. Mrs. Chapman spent her whole life in this community and, took an active part in Sunday School and church work. She was a life member of the W.M.S., a charter member of the Woman's Associa- tion, . also teacher for a number of years for the Young- Ladies D.U.O. Class. Those who were present at the evening service heard an excellent sermon on Prayer. Don't forget the Young People's anniversary services next Sunday when Rev. Andrew McKenzie, B.A., B.D., will preach at both services. There will be special music by the Young People's choir. Their play will be nresented in the school room of the church the following evening. Want and For Sale. The prize winners for the euchre were: Ladies most games, Mrs, Ed. Miller; lone hands, Margaret Habkirk; consolation, Mrs. Les. Pryce. Gents' most games, Lorne Webster; lone- hands, Leslie Pryce; consolation, Ross Montgom- ery. Six games of bingo were played, The winners were Mts. Les Pryce, Mrs. James Hogg, Malcolm Bolton, Les Dohnage and Wilbur Godkin, two prizes. Good music was furnish- ed by Mr. and Mrs. Les Pryce and George Love. The proceds for the jam fund were $30.00. Mr, and Mrs. Henry Davidson and son Oliver and Mr, and Mrs. Clifford. Osborne, Roy and Garry of Monkton with Mrs. R. K. Davidson, SIles Ruth McClure spent the week end at her home in McKillop. A meeting was held here Thurs- day evening at which Mrs. Charlotte Brown, member of the C.C.F. Pro- vincial Council spoke. She attacked the other parties and said the CCF nomination convention in High Park riding, Toronto, turned away 300 people from the door, and $1000 was raised in small donations. She re- lated the results of recent employ- ment surveys for after the war. Mr. and Mrs. Russell Dolmage have moved into their new hone which they have been fitting up. The regular meeting of W.A. and W.M.S. will be held May Sth, 2 p.m. at the hone of Mrs. H. Alexander. Will those having donations for bale kindly bring to this meeting. All are welcome, CONSTANCE The death occurred in St. Joseph's Hospital, London, on Friday, April 27th of Chas. Riley, son of Mrs. Geo. Riley Sr. and the late Mr. Riley of Constance. Mr. Riley was taken to the hospital four reeks ago suffer- ing with a serious heart condition and passed away last Friday morn- ing. The body of the late Mr. Riley was brought to Clinton to the Beat- tie funeral chapel from where the funeral was held on Sunday after- noon to the Clinton cemetery. The deceased was a young man, being in his 42nd year. He leaves to mourn his mother. Mrs, George Riley, three brothers, Thomas of Clinton, Joseph and Frank of Constance, also three sisters, Mrs. Chas. Hoggart of Hul- lett, Mrs. Fred Stephenson of Brus- sels and Mrs. James McFarlane of Noranda, Que. The pallbearers were Leo Stephenson, Robt.. Grimoldby, George and Wesley Hoggarth and Wm, and Gordon Stephenson. Miss Doris Mann Jr. of near Clin- ton spent the week end with Mr. and Mrs. Robt. Grimoldby, Mrs. Ken Bottles left for Brant• ford on Monday morning. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Armstrong and .family and Mr.. Ii, Sltoreski spent Sunday in Stratford. Congratulations to Mr, and Mrs. Wesley Hoggarth on the birth of a Son. We Wish to extend our sympathy to Mrs. George Riley and family on the death of a son and brother, in the person of Mr. Chas, Riley of Lon- don who was formerly employed by the Checker. Taxi Co, of London, BAYFIELD Mrs. S. Pearce, who spent the winter in Leamington, has returned to her home on the Blue Water Highway. Capt. Lewis McLeod has returned from the Chatham Hospital and his friends will be glad to know he is improving. Mr. and Mrs. Bristol of Washing- ton, D,Q., have returned to their cot -1 tage. Mrs. J. Atkinson of London spent several days in the village, Mrs. 0. W. Rhynas and Mr. and Mrs, W. Ferguson were in London last week. Miss J. Metcalf of Detroit .spent the week end with her mother, Mrs, W. Metcalf. Prof. and Mrs. Kalbfleisch and fa- mily of London were at their cottage over the week end. Mr. and Mrs. R. Stevens of Lon- 1 don were at their home, Shangri-la, last week end. i Mrs. Volume, who has 'teen in Toronto for two weeks, has returned to her home. Many friends of Miss Josie Sterl- ing will be sorry to hear she is in Clinton hospital. Mrs. G. Atkinson of London has disposed of her cottage on the Ter- race to Mr. G. D. McLean of London. Mr, and Mrs. S. Ervine were in Southampton on Tuesday attending the funeral of a relative. Mrs. Beacon of Clinton has rented the Whiddon property on Main street and is now living there.
