In our school books we learned that—"for want of a
nail the shoe was lost—for want of a shoe, the horse was
lost—and for want of a horse the battle was lost."
Yes, often something that seems relatively small is the
hinge upon which a major event hangs. To -day, we all
desire that our boys overseas shall return home quickly
—but it is only by every one of us doing the utmost in our
power that this desire will becotne an accomplishment.
The 8th Victory Loan is here. Let every one of us lend
our money, so that our boys may come home sooner.

way One. Mr. MacKay represented
South Bruce in the 'legislature from
1929 to 1934. He is a native of Huron
Township and lives a mile north of
Ripley. At the C.C.P. nomination in
Winghain Willia mC. King of Brussel
was named. The meeting was not very
Iragely attended. Three were nomin-
ated, Di. W, V. Johnston of Lucknow;
Henry F. Lantz, of Carrick, who was.
the unsuccessful candidate in the 1943
election, and Mr. King. The first two
withdrew, leaving the field to Mr.
King, The candidate is 51. years of
age and was born in Morris Town-
ship. He and his son William operate
a three hundred acre farm near Brus-
sels. His wife is the former Lillian
McCaul, and they have three children.
The provincial election will be held
on June 4th.
Nominations In Perth —
The Progressive Conservatives of
Perth have decided upon their candi-
dates for the two elections. There re-
mains only the nomination of the
Liberal Party candidate for the fed-
eral house of commons. The prospects
are pretty definite that there will be
three-conered contests for both elec-
tions. In the provincial campaign the
Perth candidates will be the same as
in 1943. Mr. J. Fred Edwards of Palm-
erston Was chosen at the convention
in Mitchell by the Progressive Con-
servatives. Mr. W. Angus Dickson, for
the Liberals, and Alderman Bert
Davies of Stratford, for the C.C.F.,
have been named. Mr. Edwards came
within a few votes of defeating the
then sitting Liberal member in the
last campaign, with Mr. Davies poll-
ing a very substantial vote. In the
current battle a close and lively con-
test is promised. Having carried the
burden of the 1943 campaign, Mr.
Edwards was favored for another at-
tempt to bring Perth into the Progres-
sive Conservative column, and he was
able to win the nomination even when
pitted against a. strong contender,
Mayor J. Waldo Monteith, of Strat-
ford. For the house of commons, the
party's president, Mr. Albert J. "Bert" •
Bradshaw, former Perth -County ward-
en and life-long Downie Township far-
mer, was given unanimous nomina-
tion by the prompt withdrawal of Mr.
Harry H. Dempsey, of Stratford, and
Mr. A. W. B]owes, of Mitchell, whose
names also had been placed before
the convention. The nomination of
Mr. Bradshaw means that two Dow-
nie farmers are already rivals for
Perth constituency's seat at Ottawa,
as the C.C.F. federal candidate is Mr.
Norman McCully, who is a neighbor
of his Progressive Conservative op-
ponent.

An Urgent Message from
GEORGE - DREW
NE 4th is Election Day for the members of our armed forces overseas
from Ontario, as it is here at home. The arrangements which have been
made provide ample time for the overseas vote to be taken. Special.
Returning Officers are already overseas.
Something more, however, must be done if our voters overseas are to know
why an Ontario election was forced upon us at this time.
I appeal to each one of you who read this message to write NOW by airmail.'
Give our men and women overseas all the information you can and be sure
to tell them the correct name of the Provincial Riding in which they are
entitled to vote, and the name of the candidate. This is of the utmost import-
ance because so many of them have never voted before and the difference
between the names and boundaries of Provincial and Dominion Ridings
make it doubly necessary that you be sure to give them the exact name of
the Riding in which they are entitled to cast their ballot on June 4th.
If you are in doubt as to any details please call the Progressive Conservative
Office in your locality and get the necessary information without. delay.
Be sure to send this air mail today. Yours sincerely,
The election date June 4th. arzN2
