Patsy, little daughter of Mr, and
Mrs. Clayton Horton, east of the
village, has been ill with pneumonia,
Mrs. Hannah Workman and Mrs.
Norman Stanlake attended the
Thomson :reunion held at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Wellington Good,
Auburn, on Wednesday.
The annual picnic of Chiselhurst
United Church will be held at Turn
bull's Grove on Thursday.
Miss Amelia MacKay, of Toronto,

and Mrs. Lammie this week.
Mr. Percy Gram of Chicago visit-
ed recently with his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Geo, Gram.

Denfield visited on Monday with
their sister, Mrs. A. L, Case. who is
ill,

mother, Mrs. Bawden in Exeter.
Mrs. Marie Hart and family of

Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Murdoch, of
Brucefleld, received a cablegram re-
cently from their daughter, Nursing
Sister Audry Murdoch, advising
thein that she had arrived safely in
the British Isles.
W.M,S. Meet.—
The July meeting of the W.A.S.
of Carmel Presbyterian Church, met.
on Thursday at 3 p.rn. in the school
room of the church with Mrs. B. C.
Edwards presiding. The meeting
opened by a hymn followed by pray-
er by Mrs. Edwards. The scripture
lesson was read by Mrs. C. Hudson,
after which Airs. Workman led in
prayer. Airs. Hudson presided over
the business. Fifty-three visits were
reported. Mrs. Malcolm ohn Doca .i.l fa-
vored vored with a :vocal' solo cit tied"Tis
the Blessed Flour of Prase, accom-
panied by Miss Reid at the piano.
The topic was ably taken by Miss
Minnie Reid.
Mr, and Mrs. Carl Passmore visit-
ed on Sunday with relatives in De-
troit.
Mr. Geo. Petty, of Detroit, visited
last week with his brother, Mr. and
Mrs. Win. Petty, and sister, Mrs,
T. D. Wren, who is ill. Re was ac-
companied home by his sister, Miss
Olive Petty, who intends spending
some time there,.
United Church W,M.S.—
The July meeting of the W,M.S,
of the United Church was held on
Thursday at 3 p.m, with the presid-
ent, Mr's. R. A. Brook, in the chair.
Meeting opened with a hymn follow-
ed by prayer by Mr's, Brook and the
Lord's prayer in unison, The scrip-
ture lesson was read by Mrs, Brook.
A committee comprising Mrs, C.
Ballantyne, Mrs. C. Cook, Ars. A.
Spencer, Mrs. C. McDonell, Mrs.
Brook, Miss A. Consitt, Mrs, A.
Clark and Miss Violet McClymont
will discuss ways and means of rais-
ing money, Miss M. Ellis and Miss 11.
Sutherland reported making nine
calls on shut-ins. Mrs. Ed. McQueen
gave the topic. Mrs, A. Clark rend-
ered a pleasing vocal solo accompan-
ied by Miss Florence Welsh at the
piano. Mrs. McDonell was appointed
to visit during July and August,
Miss Marion MacLaren of Goderich
and Miss Lois MaeLaren, nurse -in -
training at Kitchener hospital, spent
the week end with friends In town.
Miss Barbara. Shepherd of. Clinton
is spending her vacation with her

Kitchener are spending their holidays

Mrs.. Daniel 3, Carpenter has re-
turned to Milwaukee after spending
three weeks with her .sister -in -lav,
Mrs. Teresa Redmond.
A group of friends surprised Mrs.
Teresa Redmond at her home on
July 13, in honor of her 83rd birth-
day. The guest of honor, with whom
her sister-in-law, Mrs. Daniel J. Car-
penter, Milwaukee, Wis., and Miss
Mary Callaghan, Saginaw, Mich., are
visiting, received the visitors very
graciously. The gala event, which
was presided over by Miss Mary
Beale, was begun by singing "Happy
Birthday." Three tables were ar-
ranged for euchre: First prize was
won by Mrs, D. McConnell and the
lucky prize by Mrs. Redmond. Com-
munity singing was an interesting
feature including a vocal selection
by the honored guest. Several gifts
of linen and money were presented
and Mrs. Redmond was the recipient
of numerous cards and messages of
congratulation. She expressed her
appreciation to her friends.
A bounteous lunch was served in
the dining room, the table being
centred with a large birthday cake
decorated with candles. Unique place
cards were in evidence and, those as-
sisting in pouring tea were Mrs. A.
M. Looby and Miss Molly O'Connell.
Singing of "For She's a Jolly Good
Fellow" and the National Anthem
concluded a pleasant social evening.
Mrs. Redmond retains all her facul-
ties, does her own housework and
