THE .LESSON IN ITS
SETTING.
Time. The Second Epistle to
Timothy was written at the end of
the Apostle Paul's life, probably
II A. D. 67.
Place. — This Epistle was, of
coarse, written from the city of
Rome, and was sent to Ephesus,
for Timothy was living in that
city at this tittle.
Enduring All Things
"Thou therefore, my child, be
strengthened in the grace that is
in Christ Jesus," Timothy is not
to be strong in his own st"engtt ,
he is not charged to be self-reliant
he is to realize his own weakness
and draw upon 'Tile grace Met is
in Christ Jesus,
"And the things which thou
hast heard from rne amort; many
witnesses. the same commit thou
to faithful men, who shall he able
to teach other's also." Is it not a
beautiful trait in Pal's character,
that in the flour when martyrdom
was near lie was concerned not
about himself, but about the con-
tinuance of the Word and the
Kingdom of Christ,
Soldier of Christ
"Stiffer hardship with me, as a
good soldier of Jesus Christ. No
soldier ou service cntangletlt him-
self in the affairs of this life;
that he may please hint who en-
rolled hint as a soldier."
As soldiers of Jestis Christ we
arc to endure even unto the end
:tad as we endure so we become
strong, hardened, able to face
0n• thing.
Even as soldiers going into
battle, the Christian warfare de-
mands air entire thought and
attention. Our supreme aim must
be to please our heavenly Cllptaiu
in all things,

Crown. Directly below the maple leaf and rolled inwards is the
scroll in gold, with the Cadet motto "Acer Acerpori". (As the Maple,

not bound." Christ has not only
endured every kind of suffering,
including its extreme form, death,
but He has conquered it alt by
rising again. He is not only the sin-
less sufferer, but also the trium-
phant Victor over death and hell.
"Therefore I endure alt things
for the elect's sake, that they also
time, obtain the sulcation which is
in
Christ Jesus with eternal glory,"
Paul endured many things that
thousands of sin -enslaved men and

"Faithful i; the saying: For if we

verse affirms the eternal fact of

Proof of Ministry •
"But be Thou sober in all thtugs,
suffer hardship, die the work of an
evangelist, fulfil thy ministry." Ti-
Mottly wee ever to be vigilant and
sober. Ile would have need to
watch in all things, and especially
- to watch his 00111 moral and spirit-
ual life. 24o opportunity is to be
lost in preaching the glad tidings
of the Gospel. As Timothy became
an example to his flock, and his mi-
nistry was profitable to the conver-
sion of sinners, so would he give
full proof of his ministry.
