Honoured On Her 80th Birthday.
The home of 17r. and Mrs. James
Phelan, Morris Township was the
scene of a very happy gathering on
• Tuesday, The occasion was a birth-
day celebration for Mr. Phelan's
mother, Ml's. Mary Phelan, who on
Tuesday, was 80 years old. A din
nor and reception was held, guests
being present from London, Sea -
forth, Dublin, Brussels, Merlin,
Clinton and Goderich. Mrs, Phelan
received many beautiful gifts, flow-
ers, telegrams, telephone calls, and
cards, showing the high esteem St
which she is held. Mrs. Phelan has
spent a very quiet and uneventful
life, being content for the most part
to devote her time to her fancily and
home. She was born at Walton, a
daughter of the late James Ryan and
Margaret Kelly. In the year 1887 she
was married to William J. Phelan
son of the late Patrick Phelan and
Mary McCaughey of Morris Town-
ship, The farm on which she now re-
sides with her son, has been her home
ever since. Her husband passed away
in 1919. Mrs. Phelan has six children,
and all were present for the birthday
celebration but one son. The children
are, James, with whom she resides;
Rev. W. J. Phelan, of London; Mrs.
William Lane (Laura), of Dublin,
and Thomas Phelan, Saginaw, Mich-
igan,
ichigan, who was unable to be present.
Present also, were all her brothers
and sisters, P. J. Ryan, of Goderich;
John Ryan, London; Mrs. T, Nolan
((Kate), of Brussels;; Mrs. Margaret
Cleary, Seaforth. Two brothers, Rev,
James J. Ryan, London, and Dr,
Thos. L, Ryan, of Saginaw, Mich.,
are deceased. A host of friends will
join with us in extending hearty con-
gratulations•to Mrs. Phelan, and the
hope that she may continue to enjoy
good health and happiness, for many
more years.—Blyth Standard.
