Mr. and Mrs, A. Wesley of De-
troit spent a few days last week
visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Alex
Mousseau.
Mr. Mervyn Stephen of Goderich
spent the weekend at his home here,
Miss Margaret Tudor of Goderich
was a weekend visitor with her par-
ents Mr. and Mrs. S. Tudor,
Dr. Wm, T. Joynt of London
spent the weekend with his mother

The ladies of Carmel Presbyterian
Church' are holding a Bazaar and hot
supper in the school -room of the
Church on Saturday Dec, 6 th. Ba-
zaar opens at 8 p.m. and supper
will be served from 5 to 7 p.m.
Everyone is welcome. •
Mrs. MacDonald of London spent
the weekend at the home of her Bon-
in -law and daughter Mr: and Mrs,
A. L. Case. •
Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Adair and
family spent a day recently in Lon-
don.
MPs. Harris returned home after.
spending a few days at the home of
her son and daughter-in-law, Mr,
and Mrs. Percy Harris,
Mrs. R. Simpson has been con-
fined to her home owing to illness.
Mr. W. R. Dougall who under-
went an operation in Victoria Hos-
pital, London, last week, is recover-
ing.
Hensall Institute
The December meeting (the Xmas
meeting) of the Hensall Institute
will be held at the home of Mrs. W.
Dinnin. on Wed. night' Des. 10th at
8:15 sharp. Miss Florence Welsh is
co -hostess. Roll call: (a) My favorite
Carol, (b1 My special collection to
aid the War Memorial Children's
Hospital Fund, London. Mrs. Cross
will give the motto "The manner of
giving is worth more than the gift".
Miss Ellis will be the guest spealcer.
Xmas carol singing will be conduct-
ed by Mrs. Brown. Social Comm,
Mrs. Dinnin, Miss Welsh, Mrs, Shir-
ray, Mrs. H. Faber. Mrs. J. Pater-
son, Mrs, C. Forrest. An interesting
program is being prepared—plan to
attend.
Evening Auxiliary
The monthly meeting of the Even-
ing Auxiliary .(United Church) takes
place at the home of Mrs. Hedden
and Miss Sutherland, ' on Monday
night, Dec. 8th. Miss Margaret Shep-
herd will assist the hostesses, Mrs, J.
Corbett will present the devotional
period. The study will be taken by
Mrs. B. Kyle. Roll call, a Xmas gift
for the Protestant Orphanage, Lon-
don.. Social Comm. Mrs: Hedden,
Margaret Shepherd. Mrs. L. Chap-
man and Gladys Luker. 'A large at-
tendance is requested at this inter-
esting Xmas meeting
Entertainment Largely Attended
An entertainment sponsored ` by
the Wohelo Class of the Hensall Uni-
ted Church was held in the school-
room on Monday evening with Rev,
R. A. Brook in the chair. The open-
ing number was the hymn "In Christ
there is no East or 'West", Mr. and
Mrs. Fred Appleby sang, two duets
"Lullaby Land" and "Hail Smiling
Morn". Miss Gladys Luker accom-
panied at the piano, Rev. R. A.
Brook gave a brief address after
which Miss Violet McClymont gave
an interesting reading entitled "The
Dutchmen's Mistake". Miss Gladys
Luker favoured with a beautiful
piano solo entitled "Canadian Keep-
ers". Audrey Walsh sang a solo
"The Old Lamplighter" accompanied
by Miss Edna Walsh at the piano,
and as an encore "Little Annie
Bootie". Miss Velma Ferguson of
Chiselhurst gave. two splendid read-
ings entitled "So was 1" and "The
Burglar". Miss Jennie Jolly 'sang a

Vittors Aeroplane Ride" was very
ably given by Miss M. Ellis. Mr.
Tyndall of Exeter, guest artist, took
charge of the program and showed
the audience some wonderful demon-
strations of his magic works which,
everyone
everyone greatly enjoyed: Miss.
Greta Laramie favoured with a vio- I u
lin solo "Nola" accompanied by I
Miss Gladys Luker at the piano.
Mr. and Mrs. Appleby played two 1 @?
duets on the mandolin and piano, I
entitled "The Bells of St. Marys"' �
and "Bells of Long' ago". Mrs, Geo. r)
Hess' sang a solo entitled "I'm so
Tired". A reading entitled, The
Minutes of the Wohelo Class, given
by Mrs. Jackson Walker, was very
much enjoyed. Mrs. Appleby played
two piano numbers "The Lily" and
"The Depasz". Two vocal duett3
"I'm Dreaming of a White' Xmas
and "Silent Night" by Mrs. Hedden
and Mrs, Hess, concluded the pro-
gram, At the close the class enter-
tained those assisting with the pro-
gram and a dainty lunch was served.
The Class wish to thank all those
who made the evening such a suc-
cess.
Bride Honoured By Neighbours
On Tuesday evening some seventy
neighbors and friends gathered at
the home of Mr. and Mrs, : Arnold
Westlake, east of Chiselhurst, in
honour of their daughter Leona,
whose marriage took place on Satur-
day in Hamilton Road Presbyterian
Church, London. The bride was the
recipient of many beautiful gifts
including a tri -lite lamp from the
neighbour's. Miss .Mary Taylor read,
the address and Miss Grace Upshall'
made the presentation. Old-time
dancing was enjoyed to music furn-
ished by Messrs Nelson Howe and
Hugh Norris of .Cromarty. Lunch
was served, I

Phillips—Westlake
Against an attractive ,background
of chrysanthemums and ferns in
Hamilton Road Presbyterian Church
on Saturday, Leona Doreen, daugh-
ter of Mr. and Mrs. Arnold S. West-
lake, Cromarty, became the bride of
William dames Phillips, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Audrey K. Phillips, Flor-
ence St., London. The ceremony was
performed by Rev, Norman Caswell
and traditional bridal music was
played by Theodore Gray. Miss Belle
Howlett sang 'The Lord's Prayer"
and "I Love you truly". A gown of
white satin fashioned with net yoke
outlined with a ruffle was worn' by
the bride as she entered the church
with her father. Her double veil ex-
tended beyond the train of her gown,
falling gracefully from a tiara head-
dress set with pearls. She carried a
cascade of red roses. Miss Marion
Phillips, sister of the groom, as maid.
of honour, was gowned in Pastel run
corded taffetta with matching mit-
tens and braided satin coronet. She
carried a sheaf of bronze - mums,
The bridesmaids were Miss Margaret
Westlake, sister of the bride, in pink
corded taffetta and Miss Iris Phil-
lips, sister of the groom, in ,blue
corded taffetta, each carried a gas -
Cade of pink and blue mums. Wil-
liam Malone was best man. Ushers
were James Westlake, brother of
the bride and Jack Brintneli, Hen -
sal). For her daughter's wedding,
Mrs. Westlake chose a black crepe
frock with .fiesta wine accessories
and a corsage of red roses. The
groom's mother wore chocolate
brown crepe with matching accessor-
ies and a corsage of yellow roses.
The reception was held at the Ren-
dezvous. Later the couple left on a
motor trip, the bride travelling in a
navy dressmaker suit of wool crepe
with navy and burgundy accessories
and a white topcoat and gardenia
corsage. Mr. and Mrs. Phillips will
reside in Lucan.
Mrs. Williams of Zurich visited
recently with her sister Mrs. W. R.
Dougall.
Mrs. A. Orr has been confined to.
her home for the past two weeks
with infection in her throat.

A benefit dance will be held in
the Town hall, Hensall, on Friday,
Dec. 5th in aid of Everett Kerslake,
who received a fractured leg while
playing baseball during the past
season,

School on Friday, December 12 at

KIPPEN EAST
The November meeting of the
Kippen East Women's Institute was
held at the home of Miss Grace
Tremeer, with Mrs. Evelyn Work-
man acting as co -hostess. There was
a very good attendance and Mrs.
Wm. Kyle presided. Meeting opened
with the Institute Ode, followed by
the Lord's Prayer and minutes of
the last meeting were read, and roll
call was answered by my favorite
radio Program. Business was then
dealt with and it was decided the
Christmas cakes were to be 'handed
in to Mrs. Jos. McLellan not later.
than Monday. A Christmas dance is
to be held Xmas week with second
group in charge. MTs. Robert Elgie
then gave a very interesting paper
OD the life of Princess Elizabeth
from babyhood until the present
time and also showed pictures of her
and her future husband. Mrs. Thos.
Kay then gave us a very good de-
scription and history of Casa Lorna,
The musical portion of the program
was supplied by Mrs. John Mc-
Gregor, who brought with her Mrs.
Koehler (nee Betty Moore) who fa-
vored us with two • delightful solos,
accompanied by. Mrs. McGregor. The
guest speaker was Mrs. Ivy Butt of
Seaforth who told us of her trip
through the United States a year
ago. She also passed around snaps of
the many beautiful places they had
been and some of the scenery was
magificent. We really enjoyed Mrs.
Butt's travel talk very much. Mr.
Don Campbell of Goderich paid us a
visit and told us of his company's
offer to-W.I.'s to hold demonstra-
tions for them, The second half .of
the health quiz was then conducted
by Miss Margaret McKay. A vote of
thanks was tendered the hostess and
the meeting closed by singing the
national anthem. Lunch was then
served.

Hullett, met at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Arnold Jamieson, on Monday
evening Dec, 1st with twenty in at-
tendance. Three groups were formed
