$900,000 ESTIMATED
FOR HIGHWAY WORK
Dr. R. Hobbs Taylor, M,P,P for
South Huron, announced that the
Department of Highways has let the
contractfor paving and building,
bridges on #83 highway from Exet-
er •to Dashwood, to the Storms •Con-
struction Co, of Toronto. Three
large bridges have to be built •and
the department estimated the cost
at $900,000, Dr. Taylor said. He re-
ports other highway work in the, dis-
trict this summer is resurfacing
part of the Bluewater Highway, and
resurfacing on #81 highway from
Parkhill to Grand Bend. Dr. Taylor
says he has sold his medical practice
to Dr. Donald Ferguson, London,
who comes from a medical family,
his grandfather having .been profes-
sor of obstetrics at Western Univer-
sity. Dr. Taylor will continue to
make his home at Dashwood.

TROYER REUNION LOWER SCHOOL RESULTS
HELD AT BAYFIELD SEAFORTH HIGH SCHOOL
Troyer reunion was held at Jow-
ett's rGrove, Bayfield, on Saturday
afternoon, June 28thwith around
sixty present. A pleasant afternoon
was spent and a few sports were en-
joyed by all, The prize winners were
as follows: Boys and girls race 5
and under. 1st Wayne Dolmage, 2nd
John Hoggart; young , men's race,
Gordon Johnson; young ladies race,

HOUSE SAVED BY
BUCKET BRIGADE
Fire and water damaged the resid
euce of Mr. and Mrs, Alex Boyes,
Mill Road, west of Egmandville, on
Friday afternoon about 5 o'clock when;
an upstairs room took afire, and'
spread to a downstairs room. Prompt
aid by neighbors and some of the
Seaforth firemen who formed a bucket
brigade saved the building from fur-
ther destruction. Water was obtained
from the cistern which was full. The
furniture was removed from the
house, Mr. Boyes says he is unable to
estimate the loss, which includes
some damage to the exterior. He be-
lieves that insulation put in .a couple
of months ago retarded the flames
and gave a chance to put then' out.
RITCHIE-MCBRIDE
The wedding took place in Brock
Ave. Salvation Army Citadel, Tor-
onto, on Saturday, June 28th, of
Mr. Clayton •Ritchie, son of Mrs,
Eleanor Ritchie and the late Robt.
Ritchie, of Seaforth, to Miss Evelyn
McBride, daughter of Mr. and Mrs,
William McBride, of Toronto.. The
ceremony was performed by Adjut-
ant Pindred, of the Toronto Temple,
assisted by Major Bolton. Mr. and
Mrs. Ritchie will reside in Toronto
upon their return from their honey-
moon in Detroit,

The June meeting of the W.A. and
W.M.S. was held at the home of
Mrs. A. McLellan on Thursday,
June 26th. Mrs. Gardiner opened
W. M. S. meeting by singing hymn
376. The minutes of the previous
meeting were react and adopted.
Mrs. Keyes gave an article on Temp-
erance and Mrs. Clemente a paper
on Christian Stewardship. Mrs. Me-
Geoch_conducted the Worship ser-
vice and Mrs. McGregor took the
topic from the study book The W A
then took over the meeting. The'
minutes of the previous meeting
were read and adopted and the roll
call taken. The offering• was then
received. Following the business
period Mrs. Boyes read a poem and
Mrs. Gardiner closed the meeting
with prayer.

The death took place in Scott'
Memorial Hospital July 1 of Her -1
bert Wade Colquhoun, at the age of
70 years and 23 days, after a year's
illness: He was a native of Hibbert
township, and went to the Canadian
West in 1912 and for many years
was a retail merchant in Winnipeg
He retired about two years ago and
had returned to his home district
and lived in Seaforth until the time
of his final illness. He was member
of Northside United Church and A.'
F, and 4,M. Northern Light Lodge,
Winnipeg. He is survived by his
wife, the former Alma Beatrice Ker-'
slake of Cromarty to whoa he was
married at Hensall, June 5, 1907,
and by tivo sons Frederick Ross Col-

DIED IN MICHIGAN
Funeral services were held on Sat-
urday, June 21 at 1:30 in the Martin
Funeral Home at Mt. Morris, Michi-
gan, for Joshua Amos Cole who died
at his home Thursday, June 19. Mr.
Cole was born and raised in Hullett
township and was married there
fifty-four years ago to Dorothy
Agnes Irving. He went to Michigan
from Ethel, Ont., twenty-two years
ago and for a few years was em-
ployed at the Buick Motor Co. The
widow and one song George W. and
six grandchildren, all of Mt. Morris,
survive, also one brother, Alfred
Cole of Northern Ont,, three sisters,
Mrs. Jennie Stephenson of Brussels,
Mrs. Sarah Glazier of Clinton and
Mrs. Bertha Pollard of Seaforth. A
daughter, Mr's. George Hall (Bertha)
passed away three years ago. Rela-
tives and friends who attended the
funeral from a distance were Mr.
and Mrs. Howard Pollard of Detroit,

WESTLAKE REUNION
The twenty-second annual reunion
was held on Saturday, June 28, at
Grand Bend with fifty-five members
present. Dinner was served at one
o'clock and at the conclusion of a
very enjoyable meal all came to
order for the 'business part of the
programme. In absence of the pre-
sident, Edwin Hobson, Shedden, E.
A. Westlake, Bayfield, took charge.
Milton Talbot was elected as presi-
dent and E. A. Westlake . as vice-
president. Doris Penhale was elected
secretary -treasurer and Mrs, E. A.
Westlake as assistant secretary. The
sports committee for the coining
year are Gordon Westlake, Russel
Grainger, Gladwin Westlake and
Clifford Talbot. A minutes silence
was observed in memory of those
who had passed away last year, -A
few races were run off for the
children, the winners of which were
-girls and boys 2 and under, Allan
Cleave, Sandra Westlake; girls and
boys 4 and under, Anna Johnson.
Ronald Westlake; girls and boys 6
and under, Joyce Greer, - Shirley
Cleave (tie) ; girls 8 and under,

The picnic will be held next year
at the sameplaceon the last Satur-
day of June. A vote was taken be-
teveen Springbank ,ancl Grand Bend
with Grand Bend winning by a small
majority:

Miss Minnie O'Sullivan
A former resident of this com-
munity, - Miss Minnie O'Sullivan,
died in London at the age of 88
years following a brief illness. She
was the eldest daughter of the late
.Mr, and Mrs. Peter O'Sullivan, Me.
Killop township, where she resided
for the greater part of her life be-
fore going to Detroit and later to
London. The funeral was held from
St. Columban Church, where Rev. F.
J. O'Drowski, P.P., 'celebrated re-
quiem high mass. Burial was in St.
Columban cemetery. Miss O'Sulli-
van is survived by one brother, John
O'Sullivan, McKillop township; and
three sisters, Mrs. Agnes Wilde,
Bayfield; Mrs. Helen Farrell and
Mrs. Joseph Downey, Portland, Ore.
The pallbearers were Joseph Carlin,
John - Devereaux, Joseph McQuaid,
Joseph Kahle, Patrick Ryan, and
Vincent Lane,
Mr. and Airs, Thos, Purcell and
family and Mk. and Mrs. Frank Hart
attended the Roach- Missere wed
ding in Kitchener on Saturday.
