'Rockwell in the village of Walton is very unique in the facd that it houses the community's liar ness shop, barber shop, and library Mr. Hackwell, himself is the harness maker, the barber and the librarian The first of the three is really Mr Hackwell's trade as this is the busi ness at which he has been occupied longest. It 'was not until he purchas- ed his, present place of business that, he became the village barber and librarian. Mr. Hackwell has been the' harness maker of the community for' 24 years, having opened his shop in a small building now owned by Doug Ennis. in 1923. It was here that he' operated his business until he pur- chased the Canadian Bank of Cpnr-I tnerce building from Kenneth Ferg, in 1043. With the purchase of • this' building came the barber shop and the library, Mr. Ferg having been. the barber and the librarian. The' harness making is a full time job in itself but in his spare moments Mn Hackwell finds time •to cut a few heads of hair and hand out any li- brary books sought by readers of the village and the community surround- ing. One would think that Mr. Hack - well would be a very busy man but as he, says "A busy man is a happy man.° The library is owned by the Wal- ton Library board which engages Mr Hackwell to 'care for, distribute' and collect the books. The library contains 700 volumes along with) the books obtained from the Huron' County Library Association. These books are exchanged every three 11 Courteous and competent Bell operators handle over two million calls a day. We added 71 telephones during 1946. These additional tele- phones have made our switch- boards busier than ever. During 1947 more telephones, more operators will be at your service so that you may continue to have the best telephone service at the lowest cost. J. M.
