WALTON
The shop owned and operated b)
Wesley C. 'Rockwell in the village
of Walton is very unique in the facd
that it houses the community's liar
ness shop, barber shop, and library
Mr. Hackwell, himself is the harness
maker, the barber and the librarian
The first of the three is really Mr
Hackwell's trade as this is the busi
ness at which he has been occupied
longest. It 'was not until he purchas-
ed his, present place of business that,
he became the village barber and
librarian. Mr. Hackwell has been the'
harness maker of the community for'
24 years, having opened his shop in
a small building now owned by Doug
Ennis. in 1923. It was here that he'
operated his business until he pur-
chased the Canadian Bank of Cpnr-I
tnerce building from Kenneth Ferg,
in 1043. With the purchase of • this'
building came the barber shop and
the library, Mr. Ferg having been.
the barber and the librarian. The'
harness making is a full time job in
itself but in his spare moments Mn
Hackwell finds time •to cut a few
heads of hair and hand out any li-
brary books sought by readers of the
village and the community surround-
ing. One would think that Mr. Hack -
well would be a very busy man but
as he, says "A busy man is a happy
man.°
The library is owned by the Wal-
ton Library board which engages
Mr Hackwell to 'care for, distribute'
and collect the books. The library
contains 700 volumes along with)
the books obtained from the Huron'
County Library Association. These
books are exchanged every three

We added 71 telephones during

During 1947 more telephones,
more operators will be at your
service so that you may continue
to have the best telephone service

months and it is Mr. Hackwell's
duty to see that all books belonging
to the travelling library are return-
ed at the right time,
