The annual meeting of Duft's church W,M,S. was held in the church basernent on Dec, 11. The seventeenth and bounaary east group were in charge of the pro - grain. They gave us some very in- teresting facts. about religion in Canada and in -India. Several of the old familial. Christmas hymns were sung. HARLOCK The school teacher Mrs. Arthur Colson held her Christmas programme; on Thursday night of last week and although some of the people in the seotion coala, not be present on as count of mainps and other sickness; the school house was fall. There were quite a number of visitors fromschool sections 6 and 11, and some . from Auburn, They had a nice Christinas tree and the programme consisted Of choruses, other singing, and a number of short dialogues, all of the children speaking out clearly and doing their parts well. Mrs. Wendorf, the music teacher, whb took charge of the music part, also played a nuMber iastrumentals. Mr„ Kelland Me'Vittle Was ehairman and gave a short ad- dress, Mrs. Wendorf spoke a few words and told them how much she appreciated the Marin which they got last sunnier, • Mrs. Wm, Brown had a good turn- out at her sale last. week even if it was a bad day. We are sorry to have Mrs,. Brown leave our neighborhood, but what ta our loss is Blyth's gain, and we hope she enjoys living in Wlaster Donald Watt visited his aunt and uncle Mr. and Mrs. James Scott in Toronto the latter part of the week. McKILLOP The Women's Missionary Society of Duff's 'United Church, McKilloP, held their Xmas meeting at the Manse on Friday afternoon, Dec. 6, with Mrs. Patton presiding. The meeting opened by all repeating the 23rd psalm, followed by the Lord's Prayer in unison. Hymn 15 was then sung. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Troyer and George and Sandra and Mrs;, Alice Troyer of near Hensall, spent a day recently with Mr. and Mrs. Russell Colenian. Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Chesney of Cartwright, Man., are spending a couple of months with friends in this district. It is 55 years since Mr. Chesney first went to the West. He attended the Red Tavern and .Staffst schools as a boy. MRS. JAMES D. HOWATT 1VIrs. James D.` Howatt died at Scott Memorial Hospital on Monday after a lengthy ilness. The former Margaret Isabel Elphinstone, she born in Aberdeen, Scotland, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Elphinston. She was married at God- erich on Aug. .26, 1892, to James D. Howatt, who died in May, 1931. Surf- viving are two daughters, .(Lila) Mrs. J. Percy Manning, Clinton,. and (Sadie) Mit'. Hugh M. Chesney, Sea - forth. Her. youngest brother, John Ilphinstone, of New Pitsligo, Scot- land, also survives. There are five grandchildren. Marilyn, Grant, Carol and Glen Chesney, Seaforth, and Phyllis Manning, Belleville. The funeral will be held. on ThursdtaY at 1:30 p.m. at the home of her son - In -law, Hugh M. Chesney, lot 9, concession 4, Tuckersmith. Burial will be made in Ball's cemetery, Auburn. E. Thompson and Will. Mr, and Mrs. Porter and family of St. .Mary's who have purchased; the Hillsgreen general store moved there last week. We vrelcome them to this community. BRODHAGEN Mr. and Mrs. Jake Higenell, resid- ents of the village, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Sunday. About 30 guests assembled to cele- brate the occasion: Mrs. Higenell was the former Wilhelmine Rtidolph. Their family of four daughters with their families were present, Mrs, George Simon, Frieda, of .Bornholm; Mrs. Edwin Rock, Laura, Mrs. Jack Ford, Ella, of London, Mrs. Bob Bat- son, Edna, of 'Mitchell. Mrs. George Regele, Evelyn, passed away about a month ago. Also .present were Mr: Robert Rock of Waterloo; Mr. George Regele and family, Mrs. Wm. Mueller, Mr. and Mrs. Higenell were presented With a radio. Mr. and'Mrs. Al Gibbs and son Wade of Detroit, Mr. and Mrs. .Don Markle with Mr: and Mrs. Harold Mr. and Mit: Melvin Steiss of De- troit with friends. Mr. John Amstein returned home from St. Joseph's Hospital and is get- ting along fine. This Ladies' Aid members of St. Peter's Lutheran Church and their husbands enjoyed their annual Christ- mas party on Thursday evening with a pot luck supper at 7 o'clock and a good program followed, of songs, quar- tettes, readings and playlets, and sing, itig Christmas carols, quiz contests, and the visit Of Santa Claus who dis- tributed gifts.
