I Mr. and Mrs. Herb Britton and family of Dublin and Mr. and Mrs.' Norman Stanlake of Exeter visited recently with Mrs. Hannah Work-' man. W.M.S. The annual meeting of the W.M. S. of the Henson. United Church was held in the schoolroom ofthe church on Thursday evening at 8 p,ni. with the President, Mrs. W. B. Gross in the chair, "Joy to the world" was, sung followed by the Lord's prayer, in unison. The scripture lesson,' John let chapter was read by Rev.; R. A. Brook, who told the story of what a great change for the better, came into a mining camp when a little baby girl was born, there for the men's lives were so changedd also how the love of Jesus has spread all over the world, that since Christ came to earth "Womanhood"� has been always upheld. Rev. Sand-. erson led in prayer. Miss Greta! Laramie led in the singing of Christ- mas carols. A. reading entitled The I Black Madonna, was given by Miss" Mattie Ellis. Mrs. G. Hess, Mrs. M. Lavery, and Mrs. Redden sang a number entitled "Silent Night" which was much appreciated, Fol- lowing. the taking of the offering Miss Ellis read an address to Mrs, C. Cook, thanking her for her faith- fulness as treasurer, also in help- ing wherever she was needed, and Mrs. R. A. Brook presented her with a Life Membership certificate, Mrs. Cook, although taken by sur- prise thanked the W.M.S. in a few well chosen words. Rev. R. A. The congregational supper -meet- ing of St, Paul's Anglican Church I and the annual meeting of the Guild was held in the Sunday school room on :Wednesday. evening. Christmas carols were sung and Miss Lois Hen- derson sang a solo "Srnilin Thru" accompanied by -Mrs. Frank For- rest. Recitations were given by Tommy Lavender; and piano solos by Miss Jean Lavender. Lawr- ence. ,Coturticil Meeting Regular meeting of the village Council was held on Tuesday Deo,; 3rd at 8 p.m., in the Council cham- ber with all members being present. Minutes of the previous meeting read. Kerslake and Fink, that the minutes be adopted as read. Car- ried: R. J. Paterson, tax collector, reported as having collected $6435.- 55 in taxes off the 1946 tax roll to date, also reported re W. Brown and the transient traders license fee paid by sane. Hyde and Moir, that the collector be instructed not to collect W. Brown's taxes but to charge them against the transient trader's license fee paid by him. Carried. J. A. Paterson reported re visit made by him to Toronto re- cently and the interviews he had with J. A. Carroll of the Dept, of, Horticulture, Dept. .of Health, and A. 5. B. Grey of the Dept. of Muni- cipal Affairs. Fink and Hyde, that we the 1946 Council recommend to the 1947 Council that the last day for the collecting of Taxes without penalty be set as October 15th. Carried N. Jones appeared asking the Council for help in the cost of the drain dug by him for his new dwelling on Nelson St. Nloir and Fink. that we allow N. Jones $45. being half the cost of the labour and full cost of the tile on Nelson St. Carried. A delegation from the Canadian Legion consisting of A. Clark, P. McNaughton, appeared asking permission to hold occasional bingos in the hall. Hyde and Fink, that we the council of the village of Hensel! have no objections to the Canadian Legion holding occasional bingos in the hall. Carried. T. Kyle reported re the hole in the roadway, between the railroad tracks on the south side of King St., instructed to have the same filled. Kerslake and Moir, that a by-law be prepared ap- pointing E. Carried Richmond Orr The sudden death early Saturday morning of J. Richmond 'Orr South street, deeply shocked the citizens of Goderich and Goderich 'township. Mr, Orr suffered a cerebral hemor- rhage about 4 o'clock in themorn- ing and an hour later passed away. Born in Goderich township fifty- eight years ago, he was a son of; 'the late Mr. and Mrs. David Orr. After farming for a time in Goderich township he came to Goderich, where he had since lived. Since 1929 he had operated a milk business successfully. He was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church. He was married twice, first to Miss Eliza- beth Muir of Goderich, who passed away in 1937, and later to Miss Rita Campbell, who survives, with two sons by the former marriage, Bruce of Toronto, and Douglas, associated with his father in the business.
