Ontario Royal Commission on Forestry
PUBLIC HEARINGS
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, in confirmation of the Advance
Notice and Tentative Schedule which appeared in the press in the
early part of September, that Public Hearings of the Ontario Royal.
Commission on Forestry will be held at the following times and
places:

The Commission was appointed to investigate and reportupon the
forest resources of Ontario and their conservation, management and
beneficial utilization for all purposes, including' their relation to other
basic industries, .particularly farming, and their relation to recreation,
soil conservation, and waterways and water power,
Submissions are invited from persons or organizations who may
wish to present relevant material at any of the above hearings. Such
evidence may be presented orally, but the Commissioner would prefer
same intheform of written briefs. It is desirable but not essential
that such briefs be forwarded to the Secretary for study well in
advance of the hearing at which they are to be presented.
It is requested that persons or organizations wishing to present
oral evidence d any of the above hearings, submit their names to the
Secretary, Ontario Royal Commission on Forestry, Administration
Building, Long Branch Small Arms Plant, Toronto 14. Ontario, prior to
such hearing.

Q What are Canada Savings Bonds?
A Canada -Savings Bonds are the MICA
cessor to Victory Bonds and War Sav-
ings Certificates. They are your_ coun-
try's promise to return your money to
you at any time and to pay' you interest
at an attractive rate.
Q Why are Canada Savings Bonds
.' being offered?
A Because during the war, millions of
Canadians learned the savings habit by
buying Victory Bonds and War Savings
Certificates. A recent survey shows that
82% of them want to keep on saving
' by a similar plan.
Q Is the Government selling Canada
Savings Bonds just to raise money?
A No. Borrowing needs of the Govern-
ment can be met by other types of loans.
The main purpose of the Canada Sav-
ings Bond is to provide Canadians with
a convenient way to continue this kind
of saving and investment in peacetirne.
Q Is these any limit to the amount of
Canada Savings Bonds that one person
Indy hold?? If so, suhy?
A Yes. There is a limit of $2,000 for
each individual, but each member of a
family may hold bonds up to the limit.
Q TVhat is the price of Canada, Savings
•Bonds?
A 100%. That is, a $100 bond costs.
$100. If payment is not completed on or
before November 15th, 1946, interest
will be added to the purchase price.
Q In what denominations are Canada
Savings Bond's available?
A $50, $100, $500 and $1,000.

CASHING OF BONDS
Q Can 1 cash, my bond at any time
before November 1, 1958?
A Yes, any branch in Canada of any
chartered bank will cash your bond im-
mediately at full face value, plus inter-
est at 2%%, upon your, identification as
the registered holder. '
Q Can "Canada Savings Bonds be
assigned or transferred?
A They can be cashed, but not assigned
or transferred. This is necessary to pre-
vent any individual from acquiring
more than the authorized limit.
INTEREST COUPONS
Q What interest is paid on Canada
Savings Bonds?
A 2%%—payable yearly on November
1st from 1947 to 1956, by coupon cash -
able without charge at any branch in
Canada of any bank.
Q Are interest coupons registered?
A No. They are payable to bearer.
REGISTRATION PROTECTION
Q Why is it necessary to register Can-
ada Savings Bonds?
A Registration gives protection in case
your bond is lost, stolen or destroyed.
It is also the simplest way to ensure that
individuals do not hold more than the
$2,000 limit.
Q In whose name can Canada Savings
Bonds be registered?
A They can be registered only in the
name of one individual, adult or minor,
up to the amount of the authorized limit.
Q Can Canada Savings Bonds regis-
tered in the name of a child be cashed?
A Yes. Banks are familiar with the
necessary regulations.
Q Can Canada Savings Bonds be dis-
posed of when registered in the name of
a deoeased person?
A Yes, any bank will supply the neces-
sary information.
Q Cissa I replace nay Canada Savings
Bonds, if they are lost, stolen or
destroyed?
A Yes. It is wise, however, to keep
Canada Savings Bonds in a safe place,
as you would any other valuable docu-
ments. In case,of loss you should imme-
diately notify the Bank of Canada,
Ottawa, of the circumstances.
HOW, WHEN AND WHERE TO BUY
Q Where can I buy Canada Savings
Bonds?
A At any branch of a bank or from
an authorized investment dealer, stock
broker, trust or loan company — or
through the payroll savings plan if this
is in operation at your place of employ-
ment.
Q How do I pay for Canada Savings
Bonds?
A In any of the following. 3 ways:
1. By payment in full at tune of
purchase.
2. By monthly instalments
through a bank, trust or loan
company.
3. By regular deductions from'
pay, where employers operate
the Payroll Savings. Plan.

AIDS TO FIRE - SAFETY
It is an easy matter to prevent fires and save lives in our
homes by simply being careful and using common sense.
The following suggestions are offered as a guide
to every citizen
(1) NEVER LEAVE YOUNG CHILDREN ALONE.
(2) Keep chimneys and smokepipes clean and in good repair.
(3) Keep storage in attic or basement at •a minimum and
neatly.
(4) Make sure there is an alternative means of escape,
(5) Keep electrical wiring and appliances in good repair.
(6) Do not overfuse circuits. Fuses of 15 ampere capacity are suf-
ficient on house lighting circuits.
(7) Unless protection is given, smokepipes should be at least 18
inches distant from joists and woodwork.
(8) Install fire -detector units iu cellar and at head of cellar steps, at-
tached to gong in upstairs kali.
(9) Keep doors closed at night.
(10) Have an approved extinguisher handy.
(11) The door at the top of the cellar stairs should be one which will
resist fire for at least an hour.

(12) Keep matches in metal container and out of reach of children.
(13) Do not leave irons or other electrical appliances turned on
except when they are in actual use. Let them cool off before
putting away.
(14) Keep oily dusting cloths in a covered metal container.
(15) Never use inflammable liquids for dry-cleaning in the home.
There are safe types of cleaning fluids on the market.
(16) Don't hang electric cords on radiators or over nails.
(17) Don't use matches or candles to hunt in closets. Use a
flashlight.
(18) Don't empty ask trays in wastebaskets. There may be a live
cigarette among the ashes.
(19) DON'T USE KEROSENE TO START OR QUICKEN A FIRE.
(20) Don't smoke In bed.
(21) Don't huntfor gas leaks with a match. Put soap lather on
suspected joints and watch for bubbles,
(22) Never leave a fire burning in an unscreened fireplace,
(23) Don't use inflammable insect sprays indoors and under no
circumstances should gasoline be sprayed in closets, etc.,' as an
insect spray.
(24) Don't heat paraffin wax aver a direct fire. Use a double boiler
to melt the wax.
(25) Always use care, common sense and forethought and you will
live longer.
