Gifts presented to Scotch Bride
A meeting was held last Wednes-
day at the home of Mrs. Charles
Merril with about 40 ladies present.
The afternoon was spent by quilting
and sewing, later a , miscellaneous
shower was given by Mrs. Percy
,Gibbings and Mrs. Lloyd Stewart, in
honor of Mrs. Ivan Hoggarth, who
recently came fi'otn 'Glasgow, Scot-
land, on the Lady Nelson. Mrs. Hog-
garth taken by surprise, thanked
all for the gifts.
Two Couples Honoured
On Friday evening a reception
was held in Summerhill hall with
about one :'hundred and fifty friends
and neighbours of Mr. and Mrs. Ivan
Hoggart and Mr. and Mrs. Leonard
Vodden. Mrs. Hoggarth sailed on
the Lady Nelson from Glasgow,
Scotland, and Mrs. Vodden sailed on
the Letitia from Paisley, Scotland,
The evening was spent by progress
sive euchre. After lunch the couples
were .presented with a set of dishes
and Chenille bedspread. Ivan and
Leonard spoke in well chosen. words.
Irwins Orchestra supplied the music
for the evening which was enjoyed
by all.

Mrs. John Elgie and daughter
Thelma have returned home after a
month's visit with relatives at Biisay
and Moosejaw, Sask.
Mr, and Mrs. E, L. Box spent the
week end in Toronto.
Mr. Jack Drover, who spent the
summer months in Calgary, is spend-
ing a week's vacation at the home of
his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William
Drover. Jack will return next week to
O.A.C. in Guelph.
Mrs. James Devereaux has gone to
Detroit this week to attend the wed-
ding of her nephew, Francis Gordon
Lennon.
Mrs. C. F. L. Gilbert of Seaforth
was re-elected secretary of the Do-
minion Executive of the Woman's
Auxiliary at the annual meeting at
Winnipeg.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hagan at-
tended the funeral of Mrs. David
Barry, a sister of Mrs. Hagan, in
Dunnville last Thursday. Mrs.
Barry was a native of Hay Town-
ship near Zurich. She leaves her
husband and several brothers and
sisters. Mrs. Barry had lived in
Dunnville for thirty years.
Mr. and Mrs. John Gallop are visit-
ing with relatives in Bellview, Ohio.
Miss Joan Haney has returned to
her home after being a patient in
Scott Memorial Hospital.
LAC. Harry Scott, RCAF, left on
Monday for Lachine, after spending
souse time with his mother Mrs. H. R.
Scott.
Miss Hilda Hawes, Kitchener, has
been employed by the Hesky Flax
Company as floor lady for the linen
hill.
. Mrs. W. J. Woods is visiting at the
home of Mrs, James Livermore,
Clinton,
Mr. William Brugger, Toronto, spent
the week end with his mother, Mrs.
Thelma Brugger.
Mr. and Mrs. L. Graves are motor-
ing to Muskoka this week end, to at-
tend the wedding of Mr. Graves'
niece,

and Mrs. John Aldington, Varna, Mr,

The many friends of Mrs. Lucy
Burns are glad to see her making such
a rapid recovery from her recent oper-
ation in St. Joseph's hospital, London,
Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Little and fam-
ily, of Brantford, have been visiting
his father, Mr. Andrew Little.
Miss Fleurscheutz, Egmondville, is
a patient in Scott Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Neil Gillespie has sold her re-
sidence to Mr. and Mrs, James Broad -
foot, Tuckersmith, who will move to
town shortly, Mrs. ' Gillespie intends
to make her home with Mrs, Archie
McTavish.
Mrs. Archie McTavish is visiting
her nephews in Sarnia.
Rev. and Mrs. D. Ritchie returned
Tuesday after spending the 'past two
months at Bruce Beach.'

In the evening they were entertained
at a banquet at the Queen's hotel.
The three-day trip to Ontario was

Mrs, Isabelle McClure, wife of W.
A. McClure, who disembarked from
the Lady Rodney Sept. lith at Hali-
fax, arrived in Toronto on Friday,
Sept. 13th, where she was met by her
husband, Mrs. McClure was the for-
mer Miss Isabel Rosele of Glasgow,
Scotland. They were married on Mar.
19 and Mr. McClure came home early
in April. Mn and Mrs. McClure are
with; his grandparents Mr, and Mrs.
John McClure.
The Helping ,Hand Mission Band
will hold their regular meeting on
Saturday, Sept. 21, in the school room
of the church.

held at St. Peter's Lutheran Church
Sunday afternoon. The Brodhagen
Baud was in attendance. Rev. Coos of

answered by sixteen members. There
were two visitors. The topic was tak-

Will all members please hand
their mite boxes to their captains
this month? It has been decided that
instead of a bake sale, as previously
planned, that each lady give a dona-
tion to the W.A. leader in their
Circle. The Autumn thankoffering
meeting will be held in October. The
meeting closed with hymn 267 and
the Lord's prayer, Lunch was served
by Circle 4.
Mr. Oscar Cuthill spent the week-
end visiting friends in Port Rowan.
DUBLIN
A miscellaneous shower in honor
of a bride of last week, Miss Jean
Burns, Galt, was held at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Burns on
Wednesday night, with about 70
guests. An address of good wishes,
was read by Mrs, Frank Turner, and
presentation of numerous gifts of
linen, silver, china and money was
made. Miss Rose Burns and Miss
Loreen Harburn assisted in opening
the parcels. The guest of honor ex-
pressed her appreciation in a few
well-chosen words. A social hour of
cards and dancing followed and a
delicious lunch served by a voluntary
group of assistants,

land, 1003 ration books were issued
on Wednesday and Thursday, Sept.
11 and 12. Mrs. Kathleen Feeney
acted as deputy. Miss Kaye Stapel-
