About 25 women were present. Mrs. Henry Harburn sang a solo and com- munity singing was enjoyed, followed by an imprmoptu program. Mrs. Ris- don was presented with 'a table lamp, and an address was read by Mrs. W. O'Brien. Mrs. Risdon leaves soon with her husband, Rev. Mr. Risdon, after having lived here for three years. Walter Barry and son, Detroit, were week end visitors with relatives in town. Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Huras and daughter Gloria have returned to Stratford after spending the past two weeks' vacation at the home of the latter's parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Gemienhardt left for her home in Douglas, Wyoming, on Wed- nesday after visiting her sisters, Mrs. A. Reid and Miss Galbraith at Sea - forth, Mrs. Charles -Marks, Bayfield, and her brother, Mr. D. A. Galbraith, Varna. Mr. William Brownell, Detroit, has returned home after spending a few days with friends in town. Miss Helen Murray, Galt, was the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Hotham, over the week end. Mr. Pinkney is engaged with the Dominion Teachers' Service and is working in this district this week. Mrs. Conrad Eckert Sr, has returned from Detroit to spend the summer months at the home of her daughter Mrs. C. P. Sills and Mr. Sills. Rev, Father T. P. Hussey is in Lon- don this week attending the annual retreat, for the clergy of the diocese of London being held at St, Peter's Seminary. Mrs: L. C. Jackson is convalescing at her home here. Mr. Fred Jackson is visiting his mother. Mrs. H. R. Scott and Miss Belle Smith returned Monday after a week's visit in Detroit with Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Robb. Mrs. (Dr.) Latimer returns on Thursday to her home in Anderson, South Carplina. Mr. and Mrd. Stewart Geddes of Loudon visited at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. Geddes. Miss Laura Mole returned home Monday after spending two weeks at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Gladson Campbell, Toronto. Miss Thelma Elgie spent the week end with Dr. and Mrs. F. L. Eberhart of Meaford. CROMARTY Miss Mary Dalrymple, on Wed- nesday last, broke her left leg above the knee, as the result of a fall while hanging out the clothes at the home of her sister, Mrs. Wm. Houghton, when she accidently slipped off the platform at the clothesline. She was taken to Scott Memorial hospital where she will be for some weeks. Anniversary services will be held in Cromarty Presbyterian Church on Sunday next, morning and evening at 11 o'clock and 7:30 standard time, when Rev. James M. Ritchie, son of Rev. David Ritchie, a former minister here, will be the special preacher. LAKEVIEW CASINO GRAND BEND Grand Bend's summer ;season, promising to be the biggest in the. popular resort's history, got off o a gala start with the 'official opening at Lakeview 'Casino on Saturday night, June 22nd. Featured star. of the opening was Gordon Delmont, = who brought his sparkling dance band for the first time to Western, Ontario. Gordon Delamont has just com- pleted a top-notch band assignment at the Lido Deck, Brant Inn, .Bur- lington. With a fine record behind him in Toronto and Burlington, Gordon and his band were an in- stant success at the Casino. A native Vancouverite, the band- leader is a friend of other note- worthy Westerners, including Mart Kenney, Art Hallman and Stan Patton. Mr. Delamont was a one time Stan Patton's first trumpeter and chief. arranger. 'He is a scion of a musical family, for his father directed Kitsilano Boys' Band which won among 21. world bands at the Chicago World's Fair in 1933 and again at the New York World's Fair in 1939. ,Gordon won national honors as trumpet soloist at the Canadian National Exhibition in 1932, later toured the British Isles and won honors at Crystal Palace, London. Besides leading his own orchestra he now plays solo - on Canadian Broadcasting Corporation programs. DUBLIN The following pupils of Dublin Separate and Public schools were recommended on their year's work and will receive certificates for En- trance- to high school. Public School: Nina Aikens (honors); Phyl- lis Roney (honors); Florence Moore, (honors); John Moore (honors). A movie picture under the direc- tion of Rev. S. J. MacDonald, Clin- ton, entitled "The story of the Vati- can," was presented at Sr. Patrick's parish hall on Friday night, with a large appreciative attendance. This six -reel feature which was produced by the March of Time is narrated by Rt. Rev. Monsignor Fulton J. Sheen, of international fame. It depicts the efforts of the Holy Father to bring peace to a war torn world. Pictures are shown to the Basilica of St. Peters, Murals of Michaelangelo in the Sistine Chapel. the Vatican Li brary, the crypts beneath the Ca- thedral where the Popes are buried, the Vatican radio station and Post Office. Scenes .and activities of the Vatican are represented, including the Academy of Science, the North American College, and the seats of the Jesuit and Dominican Orders. The annual meeting of the St. Patrick's Altar Society was held this week with a full attendance, Rev. Dr, Ffoulkes presided over the meeting. The Secretary -Treasurer, Miss Molly O'Connell, gave a very satisfactory report of the year's ac- tivities, showing a substantial bal- ance in the treasury. The election of officers resulted as follows: Pres. Mrs. John Meagher; Sec.Treas., Mrs. Frank Evans; 1st vice -press, Mrs. Katharine Feeney; 2nd vice-.pres., Mrs. Fergus Kelly; 3rd vice-pres., Mrs. John Nagle. The former presi- dent, Mrs. Joseph Cronin expressed her appreciation to her fellow -offi- cers for their co-operation during her term of office. An impressive ceremony took place at St. Patrick's Church an Sunday evening in honor of the Feast of CorpUi Christi. A proces- sion, led by the men of the parish, followed by the women, the members of the Sodality and 'choir, the Altar boys and the pastor varying the Blessed Sacrament took place on the church grounds. McEwing attended the funeral of her brother the late Mr.. Joseph Campbell of near Walton. We wish to extend sincere sympathy to his widow, also to Mrs. McEwing and all the friends. Mr. A. W. MVlcEwing was bedfast for the past week owing to heart condition. We hope he will soon be feeling stronger. - Quite a number of the neighbors and friends have called to see Mr. Robert Watson in Clinton hospital. We wish to congratulate Miss Jessie Watt on being successful in passing her Entrance on her year's work. Mrs. Watson Reid is holding the picnic for No. 11 School, Hallett, on the school grounds, this Friday. No. 7, school will also be present. We wish them a good day and good time. While returning home from Blyth with the horse and baggy on Monday night, Mr. Robert Watson met with an accident and is in Clinton hospit- al and will not be able to do any- thing for at least 8 weeks. We are very sorry that Bob is laid up. Master Ronnie Knox got his arm broken one day last , week while playing• at school. - There was no service at Burns' church last Sunday owing to An- niversary Services at Constance Church. .
