was the reception on Thursday after-
noon ast given by Rev. and 'Mrs. F.
H. Paull on the rectory lawn for the
three congregations of the ;parish,
consisting of St. Johns, of Varna,- St.
James' of Middleton, and Trinity, of
Bayfield. Desnite the cool -weather
there was a large attendance about

freshments were 'served_ on the lawn,
the table -being tastefully decorated
with Iris and Orange blossoms. Mrs.

Mrs.. Fred. leriddleton, Misses Came-
ron and E. Logan -poured coffee and
lemonade, while Mrs. A. 'Newton -

young girls, looked after the 'wants

much appreciated. A game of golf on

Brady proved a very popular attrac-
tion, while quoits, under the direction
of Wm, g. Elliott, was no less Popu-
lar. Mrs. Paull received in a charm-
ieg frock of apple green. The newly

and Mrs. Mills and son Beverley, al-

spent on Friday afternoon at school
section No. 14, Stanley, when the
scholars of 'the sehool presented their
teacher, Miss Ruby McIvor,- with a
lovely set of candle holders and, can-
dles to match, ancl also a ;beautiful
bouquet. Master Stewart 'Horton
read the address and Miss Audrey
Cochrane and 'Masters 'Wesley and
Wilmer Jones- snade the •presentation,
Miss Mayor thanked them for their
kindness iii a very suitable manner,
after which the mothers served a
dainty lunch.
'The trustees of S.S. No. 14, HaY
have ,been most fortunate in securing
their teacher; Miss Mae McGregor,
for the incoming year. As this will be
•Miss McGregoe's ,fifth .year, it speaks
for itself.

Presentations. --An event long to
he remembered took place at St. An-
drew's United Church 'Sunday school,
Kippen, when the congregation met
to bid Mr. and Mrs. Lundy Godspeed
and good-bye. The IHorticultural
Society met 'first on the Manse lawn
and"'Mrs. Montieth •reatn an address
and Mrs. Lundy was pleseuted With
gardee cultivator ibyS •the .Society.
Mrs. 'Lundy replied most suitably and
all repaired to the Sunday school.
The enacting opened with Mt. Albert
Alexander as chairman and ahl aang
hymn, after which •IlvIr.,Dinsdale
in .prayer. Miss Jean Tidson _gave a
fine instrumental, after which Mr.
Alexander asked Mr. and -Mrs. Lun-
dy to come forward and Mn. A. Mc-
Kenzie gave a fine addeesS, -and mie
pla-ned that they would find their
present of a fine radio set in their

charge, The usual 'order was re-
versed and a spcial half hour svas
spent, followed by a most delicious
treat of ice-cream and cake, donated
by the Webster and Cheseey 'fend -
hes. After the businals had 'been dis-
posed of, splendid addresses were giv-
en along patriotic lines 'by Mr. Earl
Webster, Miss Agnes Adams and
Miss Margaret Ferguson. A most
enjoyable piano solo Wag contributed
by Miss Billy Chesney and a very
pleasing duet by Misses Jean Wdbster
and Jeanette •Finnigan. Committees
were appointed to arrange .for any
special functions or meetiegs during
the summer while the regular meet-
ings will be discontinued.

On Thursday morning news was
flashed over the wires of the death of
Re.v. Thos. Noonan, who died at St.
•Joseph's hospital in London. Rev,
Thos. Noonan had been a silent suf-
ferer for years, and he -bore his af-
fliction with great fortitude. He was
priest of Dublin for 20 years, at the
l'Ile Duff's ,Church Young Peoplel
