24th at Hensall.-Despite the very
ba'd weather the Victoria Day cele-
bration put on by the firemen' at
Hensall was a great success. A. large
cro10'd was present I both afternoon and
evening. The lbaill park grounds were
not in very good shape owing to the
wet weather, So the dicainond and in
front of bile grand stand were 'cover-
ed with saw dust Which made the
0011114 Sonne better. The parade
formed about 1 o'dlock at the hotel
corner and marched to, the London
road, then back to the town hall,
where he school children sang some
patriotic stings and then marched ta
the school. grounds sand turned there
and back again to 1Bnown & Clark's
corner and from there to the base
ball grounds. The ,form of the par-
ade was as follows: (Calitlinmpians,
Galt Jazz 'Band (40 in number), the
school children of the vicinity, Hens;
sail village council, Hensall fire de-
partment with its complete equipment,
different trade floats and decorated
autos. County Warden Klapp, Reeve
Kennedy Of Tuckersesith and the 'Rev.
Mr. Naylor were the judges for the
procession. At the grounds 'Reeve
Geiger addressed the 'crowd and wel-
comed them to the town. A line of
sports was then run off including
boys' .and .girls' races, jumping, bop -
step and jump, pillow fighting, bar-
rel fighting, bun eating contest 'and
climbing the greasy pole. At the
lower end of the ground's a keen con-
test took place in pitching horse-shoe,
1, baseball match was also put on be-
tween Crediton and Hensall, Crediton
winning 5-4. After the baseball match
the crowd went back to the hotel
corner, svitere the firemen gave a de-
monstration with then DM engine,
and also put on a water -fight, the en-
gine pumping two streams. of waver
and three firemen en each nozzle,
each side pasted the other with water,
and after a sharp and spectacular
t tight the east side was driven from
the street.
In the evening the town was pack-
ed with people dancing in the town
hall and also a big street dance was
ataged. The Galt Jazz 'Band gave the
music on the street and the Hyde or-
chestra in the hall. Between 9-10 p.
m. fireworks were let off from the
station grounds. The town was nice-
ly decorated by Mr, John Broderick,
of Seaforth. About 10 o'clock the
rain started again and drove the peo-
ple front the streets, but all enjoyed
the .hiss day. The firemen are to 'be
congratulated on the big success of
this, their first Victoria Day celdbra-
tion.
