Special Committee.
Tie special committee appointed to
interview the educational department
re the matter of High School grants,
specially re the claim of the Exeter
High School (Board, reported as 'fol-
lows: 'We met in the clerk's office in
Goderich and decided to draft a let-
ter to the department instead of 'going
to Toronto. We consider that the
County of Huron, as recommended by
the education committee, has paid to
the Exeter 'High School on the saime
basis as grants are made to all our
other high sellaole in accordance with
the 'High School Act as amended in
1924, etc. We do not consider a rent-
al basis' for a building previously burnt
for school purposes or any other pur-
pose 1s'itair to the county, as it has no
finality to it. 'It has not been subject
to the county s approval, nor has a
basis on .calculation o -f value been fur-
bished nor any agreement offered or
entered into, and we can find no jus-
tification of such claim. IIf it were
recognized it would place all our old
paid for high schools in line for a
claim. The 'letter of the department
stated that the Act gave the hoard
authority to rent property for the use
of the board and that the rental
charges should be included under the
heading' expenditure for perinahlent
improvement, but riot beyond $50
without the issue of debentures.
