Mrs. Simpson's many friends. here' wish them every "success in their new borne. Misses Viola and Irma Higgins arc in Detroit spending a couple of weeks visiting relatives, Mr. Wm. Hildebrandt and daugh- ter Viola, spent the holiday visiting relatives in'Goderich, The largest crowd that has ever gathered in town witnessed the base- ball tournament, street parade, baby 'show and street dance. It is estimat- ed about 2,000 were in attendance. The proceedings opened with a par- ade of the public and continuation school children all carrying flags and headed by Reeve Owen Geiger and the Dashwood band; from the town hall to the' baseball diamond. Hensall and Mt. Pleasant first competed, re- sulting in a score of 12-11 in favor of •'Jensail. Fullarton and Exeter then competed, resulting in favor of Ex- eter by four runs Hensall and Ex- eter being the winning teams, played the closing match, resulting in favor of Exeter by one run. Hugh Berry and Daniel Brintnell acted as umpires. in the baby show there were 11 en- . tries. Drs. Alex. Moir and Rosswell I. .Dougall and Miss McGowan, trained nurse, acted as judges, First prize was awarded to the child of Mr. and Mrs, Edward McKay, of Tuckersmith and second prize to the baby of Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Sangster of town. The street dancing on Ml"aliu street was kept up till nearly morning. The Hogg orchestra of Seaforth, provided the music, Mr James. Rev. Mr, Leckie 'of Motlierwel preached in the United Church o Sunday last to large congregations. Death of Mrs. Elston.—There die in Hensall at the residence of her son Mr. Robt. 'Higgins, on Friday after noon last, Mrs. Louisa Elston, in he 83rd year Mrs. Elston has, been i poor health for the last two years and six .weeks ago suffered a sever stroke from which she never rallied She was one of the few remaining ol. settlers of the Exeter district and ha lived in this vicinity all her life. Mrs Elston was married twice, her firs husband being Benjamin. Higgins who predeceased her 23 years ago. T this union were born eight children four daughters, now deceased, and Sour sons, Win., of Clinton; Robt, o 'Hensall; Elijah, of Toronto,. and Thos. of Oregon. Some years afte the death of Mr. Higgins she married Thos. Elston and they lived in Exete till Mr. Elston's death eight year ago, and since then she has made he home with her sons, Ifrs. Elston wa of a bright, cheerful disposition and made ' many friends. The funera took place to the Exeter cemetery oi afternoon and was largely attended. Rev. Mr, Sinclair, panto, of the United Church, took the ser vice. The floral tributes from friend were very beautiful. Laughton of Toronto visited for a few days with Mrs. Laughton's parents, Mr. and Airs. Chas.'McDonald. 'MIPs. J. C. Stoneman of Toronto vis- ited over the week end with relatives and friends. Mir. and Mrs. D. McDonald of Galt, are visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Dun- can McMartin. Mr. and Mrs. Ferguson of London visited over the week end at the home of Mr. and Mrs. D. Foss. Mr. and Mrs, W. E. The choir of Union church here held a picnic at Grand Bend to be present with Miss Ida Cochrane who is camping at Grand Bend, Ida used to he a member of the choir before going to Toronto, where she holds a good position. Wheat 'cutting has been general the past week in this part, but the crop is far from being ,a bumper one. The general_ rain on Sunday last did a great deal of good to pasture and growing crops. S'ho- brooke was largely attended .from his late residence on the thirteenth of Mullett to the Union cemetery on Wednesday last, Mr, Shobrooke will be much missed by his many friends, Mr, Jas. There passed away at the home of his son, Thomas Shobbrook, of •Liu1- lett, at the advanced age of eighty- five years. The late Mr. Shobbrook had been a sufferer from gangrene, which affected his feet, some months ago. His wife .passed away in April, 1925, and he is survived by_'one son Fred.
