this vicinity attended the Young
People's picnic held at Monkton on
Wednesday last, and all report a good

holidays in Detroit with the former's
brother, Dan.
Mr. and 'Mrs. Hyle, irons Toronto,
are visiting at the home of their dau-
ghter, Mrs. Dennys, at the Manse.
Mr. Wellington Crawford has re-
turned home from the hospital after
having his tonsils removed. We hope
for it speedy recovery.
A N,ery pleasept time was spent at
the liorne of Mr. Thomas Scott on
Friday evening, July 9th where a re-
union •of the ,Lamond family took
place. There were about fifty pres-
ent. The evening was spent in music
aed dancing.

Death of Miss Devereaux. ---On Fri-
• day, July 9th, Miss Catherine Dever-
eaux passed away after an illness ex-
tendiog over a year. She was born
sixty-eight years ago on the home-
stea'd just east of Seaforth on the
Huron road, elder daughter of John
Devereaux and Mary Shannon. Four-
teen years ago, at the tine of her
mother's death, she came to live wibh
her sister; Mrs, John McDonald, at
Walton. She had won the love and
respect of both communities in which
she lived and •sincere sympathy is ex-
tended by a large circle of friends to
the bereaved ones. She is stervived by
one sister, Mrs. Jno. McDonald, Wats
ton, and five brothers, Messrs. Jahn,
William, Robert and James Dever-
eaux, of Seaforth, and Dan, of Los
Angeles, Cal. The foneral took place
on Monday morning at St, James'
church, Seaforth, requiem high •mass
being sung by :Rev. ;Father MoHtigh,
of Winghain and •Brussels, and Mon-
signor Blair, Preeident of the Catho-
lic Church Extension, Toronto, and
formerly of Brussels, and Rev. Fr.
Nagle, were in the *actuary. Rev.
Fr. Goetz sang in the choir. Inter-
ment was made le St. James' ceme-
tery, Seaforth. Among those from a
distance present at the funeral were

The decoration service held at the
Ethel cemetery in honor of the deceas-
ed members of Ethel ;Orange Lodge
,Ittat Sunday afternoon was largely at-
tended. After the ,marching and de-
coration Of the graves, Rev. Dr.
Brown, of Walton, delivered an ad-
dress that wap very highly appreciat-
ed. The solemn and impressive ser-
vice closed by singing 'nBlest be the
tie that bind's," and the pronouncing
of the benediction.

Widespread regret was felt Iby the

when news of his death came on
Sunday morning. Deceased had con-
tracted double pneumonia and from
the first little hope was held out for

the departure of Miss Taylor for her
home in Varna, Miss Taylor has 42
pupils, and it has been said that the
position has never been filled quite as

she has the support of the parents and
all are glad that she ,is to return in
the fall. As a little mark of apprecia-
