eye trouble at the Seaforth hospital.
Mrs. Thos. Grieve, Egmondville,
underwent an operation in. the Sea -
forth hospital Sunday and her friend's
wish her a speedy recovery.

from a trip to the Southern States.

Presbyterian church in Hensall on
Sunday afternoon.
Mrs. Wnt: Black underwent an op-
eration for appendicitis in the hos-
pital on Monday.
A very pleasant evening was spent
last Thursday at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Geo. Seip, Market street,
when Miss Abbie Seip entertained
her Sunday school class, the Plus
Ultra. , After the business and other
matters were attended, the rest of the
evening was pleasantly spent in

for letter of information, 50c; Duncan
Tudor, for work on S.R. 5&6, Con.
13, $9.00. The regular meetings of
the Council will be -held on the last
Thursday of each month instead of
the last Friday, as formerly, owing
to the change of days in which the
Bank is open in Londesboro,

Mr, Frank Weekes received the.
news of the death of his nephew, D.
McLaren, of Calgary. Much sym-
pathy is extended to the parents, Mr.
and Mrs. McLaren (nee Miss Annie
Weekes) in their sad bereavement.
Mrs. McConnell has returned home
from a two months' visit with her
sister and brothers of Minneapolis.
Miss Welsh spent the week -end
with friends in London.
Dr. Newton -Brady is kept • very
busy these days as after the 'severe
storm of last week, an epidemic of
colds has broken out.
Miss Ada Galbraith, after spending
some months with friends and rela-
tives in Washington, Vancouver,
Winnipeg and several other points,
returned last week looking hale and
hearty.
Mr, and Mrs, Clifford Epps are
about to take up homekeeping in our
village, of which more mention will
be made later.
Mr. Webster and his many wit-
nesses were summoned to Goderich
last Wednesday to appear in court

empty freight cars miming the track
near Dublin. Snow on the track
was the cause of the accident.
Miss Dorothy Hudson underwent.

Mrs. Alice Sellers, of Gladstone,
Mich., is visiting at the home of her
parents, owing to the serious illness
of her mother, Mrs. Win, Wright, on
the 7th con.
An interesting missionary pro-
gramme was given in the Presby-
terian Sunday school on Sunday af-
ternoon by Miss Gillespie's class, in-
cluding two choruses, recitations and
a trio by Margaret Strong, Mary
Kling and Dorothy Wiltse.
Miss Nona Dale and Miss Grace
McLean were in Stratford attending
the Normal At Home, the guests of
Mrs. James' Baxter (nee Miss Jean-
ette Grieve).
The Ladies of the Altar Society of
St. James' parish, are having a euchre
and old time dance in the parish hall
on Monday evening, Feb. 15. Cards
at 8.30. Hogg's orchestra will
furnish the music.
On Friday evening the choir of the
North Side United church spent a
pleasant evening at Mr. and Mrs.
Herald Lawrence's, After rehearsal,
Mr. F. S. Savauge spoke a few words
of appreciation to the choir for the
splendid work they were doing. Mr,
Jas. Scott and Mr. Will Black were
kind enough to take the choir out on
sleighs. • •
HULLETT.
The Hullett Council met on Fri-
day, Feb. Sth. Minutes of former
meeting read and approved. Com-
municatioe from Secretary of Chil-
dren's Shelter,' Goderich, asking for
a donation thereto. The sum of $1S
was granted. Communication from
Ontario Municipal Association, also
from. Ontario, Good Roads Associa-
tion •giving notice of their annual
meetings. and asking for a grant
'hereto. No action taken. Notice from
Morris that work has been proceed-
ing on the McArthur Drain and that
navments thereto, are due and pay-
able. Clerk instructed to notify ner-
coiis 'accordingly. Thomas Miller
addressed Council offering to pur-
chase a portion of anmunused street
adjoining his property. Clerk in-
to Toronto on Monday.
Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Jamieson visit-
ed friends in Goderich twp. one day
last week.
A number from here attended the
funeral of the late Mr. Henry Cash,
at Seaforth, on Monday.
Good Roads Commission's Report.
The Good Roads Commission re-
ported recommending payment of
the claim of Stephen townsliip for
$134.45; no action on the claims of
Robt. Doig, John Cathcart or Dr.
Burrows for damages to cars or cut-
ler; re motion of Messrs. Dodds and
Geiger that oiling on county roads in
villages be done earlier in the season,
that the same be done; re motion of
Messrs. Armstrong and Johnston to
have certain roads in Hullet town -
chip added to the county system, that
we approve that a bylaw be prepared
at the December meeting to be pre-
sented to the Department for ap-
proval of some of the roads; re an-
nual conference of Road Engineers
being held in Toronto February 22nd
and 23rd, that Engineer Patterson at-
tend this conference; re tnotion of
Messrs. Middleton and Cox that a
grant of $2,000 be given to the town
of Clinton to be used on connecting
link streets if approved by the road
eonrntissioner, that this be done; re
motion of Messrs, Munnings and
Klnpn that a grant of $3,500 he made
to the Town of Goderich to rebuild
portion of connecting link, viz., Bay-
field road from Britannia road to the
southerly limits of the town, that this
be done if approved of by the road

High Constable Whitesides wrote
resigning the position and the special
ccn)mittee to which the matter was
referred recommend that the resigna-
tion be accepted and no action taken
as to the appointment of a successor
until the June meeting, and that, in
the meantime applications be receiv-
ed for the position. Mr. Whitesides
retains his positon as Provincial of-
ficer.

A number of the people here have
been laid up wit severe colds,
Mr. V. Terryberry has been laid
up with a severe attack of quinsy.
Mrs. Joseph Crich vLitcd her dau-
ghter, tIrs, J. Townsend, at Hamilton
recently.
Mr. Harvey Johns has sold his
farm to his nephew, Mr, Leslie Law-
son, of Hullett, who gets possession
on March 1st.
HILLSGREEN.
Mr. Percy 'Workman is spending
the week -end visiting friends in Clin-
ton,
We are all pleased to hear that Mr.
Robert Forrest, who has been in Clin-
ton hospital, has been able to return
to his sister's in Hensall for a short
rest before returning to his home on
the Parr Line,
The farmers are all busy drawing
out their wheat these days, when the
sleighing is good.
Mr. Robert Parsons was up to
Goderich last week out the jury.
Mr. Win. 'Taylor and Mr, Walker
Carlile have taken the contract o3
cutting wood in Mr. Chas. Farquhar's
bush. -These two young fellows are
making the saw hum this fine days.
Miss Emma Love spent the oast
week with her aunt Mrs. Clifford
Moir. and returned home on Sunday:
