TP. SCHOOL BOARDS.
The meeting of McKillop tow
ship school trustees on Saturday a
tertioon to discuss the propos
Township School 'Boards Act w
attended by thirty or more trustee
Reeve 'McQuaid explained that
understood that the Act would
passed this year, and the meetin
had been called ,o allow trustees t
consider it. Mi.. Bruce Medd .wa
chosen el:airmart and Mr, Melia
secretary. Mr. Medd said that ever
one realized there was a rural scho
pioblern and the new Act was oifere
as a solution. The 'Government di•
not want merely to be told the Ac
was not perfect; it wanted advic
and suggestions to make the Ac better, Mr, McNay said he believe'
the .Act was to bring high 'school
education to the rural sehoo'ls; so tha
children woui not have to lea
their holies as soon as they passe
their entrance. Mr. Wilson Camp
bell criticized the present system o
grants, and thought teachers' salaries
were too high, Mr. George !McKee
believed ,the salaries were•regulating
themselves, and pointed out that too
kw salaries a number of years ago
had created a .serious shortage of
teachers for a time.
A number of speakers mentioned
consolidated 'schools, high school
subjects, the cost of training teachers
tied the email attendance at some
schools. It was point.d out that the
new. Act: would probably leave the.
sc'hoo'ls exactly as at present. Dis-
cussionalso brought out the fact
that in most cases it would be im-
possible for one teacher to teach all
classes from primer to Normal ens"
trance. :Many speakers thought the
present system of rural schools and
high schools were sufficient, and a
resolution to that''effect was carried,
although not by any means unani
mously.
