Crossing the Lege.
If we sit for some time with our legs
crossed our foot "goes to sleep." We
are really pressing on the sciatic nerve
ivhich supplles nearly all of the nerves
of the leg and foot, The nerve is alas•
tie and is flattened by pressure just
like a rubber hose. The fibers whieh
make up the nerve are sensory—that
is to say, they curry sensations to the
br'ria. Motor nerves tarry sensations
from the brain to the body. The only
way to step a nerve carrying sense -
Ilona is by cortin; it or by pressure,
w-hieb pushes apart the soft nerve mat-
ter, which is eovorcd 101111 a sheath,
Just as the water Is pushed apart if
You press a host When the pressure
is on the nerve massages cannot pass
imrkward and forward. If the pres-
sure is released tiro nerve matter re•
turns to its place and ,toes its work.
