The annual report of the Hospital
for Sick .Children, Toronto, marks a

Yet the number of patients treated
1s 6,048, or 1,20. more than last year.
Of these err patleuts, 759 were from
206 places outside of Toronto.
The tireless efforts of the staff

influenza aged 78 years deeply regret-
ted by a large circle -of friends. -

turned to London after attending the

Rev, Father Burke with a fountain pen
and a pair of ,gloves as Christmas' gifts.

school on last Friday evening in the
Parish Hall. Each pupil performed
her part perfectly doe to the careful
training on the part of their teacher,

A Tragedy
Esteemed Resident of Goderieh Dies
as Result of Auto Accident
A shooking tragedy, which has cast
a pall of sadness over Goderioh in
general, and brought sorrow of a pe
ouliarly poignant character to at least
two homes oeaurred on Monday night
on the square about eleven o'clock,
when Mr, J. H. Colborne was struck
by au auto, driven by Mr. E. arose. and
so badly hurt that he passed away
about au hour later inehe hospital, to
which lie was taken, Mr. Colborne
had gone to Mr. Edwards' to get some
oysters and was returning with them
across the roadway, whon.the automo-
bile caught him. Both lege were brok-
en and the body otherwise badly in
jured The acoident occurred on the
inner portion of the roadway, and the
auto, which was coming from the Brit-
ish Exohauge hotel. would thus be
travelling on the wrong aide of tin• road
The victim of the accident was carried
some distance by the car, about 67 feet
by measurement between the point
where the oysters were spilled and.. the
point where Mr Golborne's body was
picked up, Dos, Whitely anti Emmerson
were eiimmoned and weria quickly on
the Beene and Mr. Colborne was taken
to the hospital, but never regained con-
sciousness,
A session of the police court was
held during the night, the driver of
the car having been arrested, He was
then released on bail until the morning
- On Tuesday morning en inquest was
opened at Brophey's undertaking rooms
and lifter the jury viewed the body the
inquest •woe adjourned to Saturday
morning at lo o'clock
Subsequently the preliminary en-
quiry into the etroumstauces of 'the
acoident took place and Mr. Greta was
remanded until Monday morning. At
first bail was refused, but later was
granted over the Holiday, in the sum
of $2,000, and renewed Thursday morn-
ing until Monday.

Mr, Colborne was one of the oldest
and best respected businese men of
Godericb and a real asset to the com•
mtnity in whatever sphere `hie activi
ties were directed, For Mrs, Colborne
eo suddenly made a widow, and for
the family\there is the most heartfelt
sympathy from the entire community..

and whether, the tragedy ie due to
eareleesness or aocident, or whatever
the inquiry may disclose, 'there ia for
them also a feeling •of syml,athy ha
what must be a trying time time. The
tragedy seems even more sad by reason
of the fact that it came on the eve
of the great festive season of Obristmae
and that those who were preparing for
the rejoicings of the festival were so
enddenly afflicted„
