Tootball Season Ends.—Congratula '-ions to Winthrop on winning the Duron Football Association Cup. The final match was played at Walton on Friday evening before a very large crowd, when Winthrop won by -a score of 2-0, and thereby won the Stephenson Cup, the first match hay - mg been a tie. Both teams played good Football, but the breaks were against rhe home boys. Winthrop has a good etam. At the same time Walton is proud of their boys who scarcely lost a, game in the summer, and who de- eerve credit for taking defeat like men, They had some grounds for a protest aver a penalty kick and also Win- throp seemed to have fonr substitutes in uniform; but Walton have shown Themselves to be 'better sports than Brussels, who play their matches be 'fore protest committees instead of on', the field, and lose both, According to', hearsay reports from Walton's mana- ger, the trouble was that the team lost its steering gear, so it would ap- pear that Walton's "invisible" steam roller (as our friends to the south of us love to call 'it) missed Winthrop. In the first half Winthrop scored on a penalty pick off Moody Holland. 'The kick for 'Winthrop was taken by Don Dale. Winthrop's second goal came in the last half on a neat kick by Watson from in front of the goal, the ball flaking in just tinder the cor- ner of the goal post, when Walton's ;goalie thought it was clear of the goal and did not attempt to stop it, Referee Jack Armstrong of Londes- boro was in charge of the game. The retu•rnsfrdm the final matches have been very gratifying, the proceeds of 'the Winthrop g arae we understand be- lnig in the enighlb'orhood of $50 and at Walton $7. It is early yet to begin loolei'ng ahead to next ye'ar's football, but it is rumored that twoor possibly three of Walton's older boys are talk- in•g of retiring fromthe game, and the fans are keeping an eye open for recruits. However, when the time rolls around .the urge to play may prove strong enough to draw the boys into Farm Machinery and Repairs Come in and see our New and Used Cars Agent for Chrysler, DeSoto and Plymouth JOHN GALLOP AGENT FOR FROST FENCE SUPERTEST GAS and OILS All Repairs and Labor Cash.
