returned home after a two weeks' va-
cation camping at Pike Bay.
The annual Ortwein family reunion
was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
J. W. Ortwein o:n Saturday. Same 26
members of the family were present.

tance were Mr. and Mrs. J. Brin-
curt and son Harold of Kitchener;
Mrs, Hassnell and daughter of Penn-
sylvania; Mr. and Mrs, A. B. Ort-
wein of Detroit, Mr, Milton. Ortwein
and son Lloyd of London and Miss
L. Ortwein and friend of Toronto.
At a court of appeal held here on
Tuesday last before Judge Costello,
Mr. Owen Geiger appealed to have
his assessment lowered on his house.
The judge lowered' the assessment
$500, J. G. S'tanlbury appeared for Mr.
Geiger.
Services in our local churches were
well attended on Sunday last. At the
United Church Rev. A, Sinclair oc-
cupied the pulpit arts fine anthems
were given by the choir. Por the
summer months the evening services
will' begin at 7.30. At Caeme'l Presby-
terian Church Rev. W. A. Young had
charge of the services the choir lead-
ing in
ead-ingin the service of song.
The large barn on the old MdF'ar-
lane farm nolw owned by the Woods
Bros,, just east of Hensall, was struck
by lightning early Friday morning
and was burned. The barn contained
several implements and some hay and
grain. We understand the Woods
Bros. intend to rebuild.
A large number were in town on
Friday evening attending the Band
Concent put on by the D'as'h'wood
Band, This band has been engaged to
play every Saturday evening.

of July. He also gave an estimate on
the probable receipts and expendi-
tures for the Mance of th'e year. He
recommended a 30 mill tax rate for
1933 .divided as follows: 'Village rate
10.5 mills, comety, rate 5.6, debenture
rate 5.2, school rate 55, :pleblie l'iib-
rary .5 mills, There is still $7121 of
outstanding 1931 taxes, $1158.12 of
1931 taxes, and 42119.10 of 1930 taxes.
A ,number of accounts were present-
ed ordered paid. By -Law No. 4-i193,3,.
amending' the milk' by-law; as asked
by the'baard of health, was given its
readings and adopted, and will b'e'
sent to the Ontario Minister of Agri-
culture for approval. On motion of
Geo, C. Petty and Walter Spencer it
was decided to charge the Chautau-
qua committee for rent of the town
hall for the recent entertainments.

The passing of Mrs. W. C. Bennett,

Bennett underwent an operation for
