On Monday evening Last the mem-
bers and -adherents of Duff's United
Church, MdKfldop assembled at. the
-manse to bid adieu to ''Rev, 'William
and Mrs, Smith and family ,before
their departure for Currie. The pro-
ceedings opened with the singing of
"Blest Be the Tie .that Binds." 'Then
Miss Wheatley, on behalf of 'the
Young ;People, read an address to Mr,
and Mrs. Smith,: expressing regret
that the Young People felt at the sev-
erance of the ties 'between pastor and
people. Miss Essie Dorrance, : _!Miss
Ruth Scott and Miss Margaret Kerr
presented lir, and Mts. Smith with a
handsome floor lamp and Lois, Aus-
tin and Gladys. small remembran;ces
from the 'Sunday School.
Mrs. Smith was made the recipient
of an autograph quilt on behalf of the
l\V.M.S. and Ladies' 'Aid. This ad-
dress was read by Mrs, William
Shannon and the presentation made
by Mrs. F McKercher,
lir. and ?sirs. Smith replied ex -1
pressing. their appreciation of these
gifts and their happiness at being as-
sociated with us.
The programme was continued with
community singing and other.interest-
ing numbers. •Lunch was served and
a pleasant evening brought to a close
with the singing of Auld 'Lang Syne.'

Eitplosionl Causes Injuries. An
empty tarvia' tank -exploded at Thos.
(Sandy's machine shop in 'Godericit
while Mir. Sanely and 'Jack Whitting-
ton were welding a bole in the tank.
The shock of the exiplosion was felt
for blocks and the iletottatiott was:

Reeve- Sweitzer Injured. — Reeve
Wm. '$weitzer of Stephen township
met with an accident last !Saturday
when tying up a colt. It became fright-
ened and dashed for freedom dnag:g-.
ing hint through a narrow ,partition in
a .stable. The rope was twisted around
his hand preventing him from freeing
himself from the animal. Mr. Sweitzer
struck a sharp corner Of the manger
causing a fracture and three crushed
ribs.

Butter Stolen.—Bast ;Saturday night
a Farmer from Morris township had
his horse and buggy in 'the United

Canning Factory 'Operating.—The
Exeter factory of the 'Canadian Can-
ners started their pea pack on. 'Tues-
day last. This is the -earliest. for a
number of years. Owing to the hot
weather and lack of moisture the early
crop will ' not be up to the usual stan-
dard.
Visiting 'Friends, -Mr, and Mrs. W.
Forrest of New York ,motored over
and are visiting relatives around Exe-
ter, the Eaerett connection. For the
past 3•s years Mr. Forrest has been ac-
tive in the telephone company of New
York city and rose to a very important

Died at Dashwood.—;Fred Weiberg,
died at his home at Dashw•.oad on the
Lake Road, aged 77 years. He is sur-
vived by his widow, formerly Eliza-
beth Rupp, one ,daughter, Mrs. Jacob
'Fischer and three sons, Henry, . at

ment was made in Bronson line cem-
etery.

Menno Bechtel- attended 'the funeral of
Mr. Joe Rapp of Pool, who was kill-
