Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Hai -ably "of
Staffer and Miss Florence. Cooper of
!Seaforth-were visiting friends in Wal-
ton on Sunday.
Mr, and Mrs. Percy Brudder of Ar-
eec were Walton visitors on Sunday.
Mr..Brudder. was with the Walton
section for a time last winter.
The position of foreman of the C:P,
R. 'Walton section was accepted last
week by Mr. George Underwood of
Streetsville. Mr. Arthur Hoy, foreman
at Megane, as senior menbor of the
division, received the appointment a
couple cd weeks ago, but has decided
to remain at Megaw as it was impos-
sible to get a house in 'Walton to
move his family here. Mr; James Bi-
shop, who is retiring shortly on pen-
sion, was fore'm'an since the railway
was pit through 216 years ago, ;V Lr.
Hoy and Mr. Underwood both were
employed under Mr. Bishop, the for-
mer having 26 years service and the
latter about 20 years, Mr. and Mrs,
Underwood are well -known to this
vicinity. Mr. Underwood was former-
ly Miss Irvine of MdKillop. Their
many friends are pleased to learn of
their coming to Walton.
There was quite a crowd of football
fans at the game in Walton on Mon-
day night between Walton and Win-
throp which was the fa's'test game
played so far this season. The score
was a tie 1-1. Walton boys were win-
ning every game they played, but
Winthrop has been dishing out a good
brand of football too. This was the
first encounter between these two
teams and they are certainly evenly
matched. Don Dale was heavy man
for Winthrop. The Walton team is
looking for another real tussle with
,Brussels on 'Wednesday night of this
week.
iA shower and' social evening were
held by the YP:S. of Duff's United
Church on Monday evening in the
basement of the church in honor of
this week's bride, Miss Annie Me-
Taggart, whose marriage takes place
an
Thursday. The President, Mr. Har-
vey Bryans took charge of the even-
ing';, programme, which commenced
with a grocery shower brought into,
the roam in large baskets. The many
parcels were .opened by the bride-to-
be. Addresses, 'gangs and games
were then enjoyed, including a piano
selection, "Annie Laurie," by Mrs.
IRads-ard. A solo .by Mrs, C. F'ingland
and a recitation by .Miss Eleanor
Knight. "The decoration's for the oc-
casion were very pretty. "For She's
a Jolly Good Fellow," was sung at
the close of the eventing. Miss Mc-
Taggart was President of the Young

Mr. and Mrs:' William Snvithers of
Thief River Falls, Minnesota, are
visiting friends and relatives in Wal-
ton, Seaforth a•nd Wingham. Mrs,
iSmithers was formerly Miss Mary
(Bennett of the Huron Road, near Sea -
forth,
Mrs. W. C. Bennett's condition at
Kitchener h'ospi'tal was reported this
week as very, unfavorable as the re-
sult of complliWeaiio:ns. folldwing a ser-
ious oper'a'tion for appendicitis several
weeks ago, Her friends are very sor-
ry to learn of this.
The death of James Thoma; Denni-
son, a former resident of this vicinity,

teen years. He was active in municipal
Matters, a member of the Preston Li-
brary Board. He was a member Of
Knox Presbyterian Church and was a
member of the board of management.
Besides his wife who was formerly
Miss Maud Johnston of this village he
leaves to mourn their loss one daugh-
ter, Doris; five `brothers, 'William,` of
Calgary; Alex., Toronto; Alfred, 87'a-
terloo; Edward, Weston, and (Rolert,
Preston; two sisters, Mrs. R. A. Ro-
binson, Regina and. Mrs. ;Harold
Cook, Toronto. The funeral was held
Friday afternoon from his late resid-
ence, in'termen't taking place in Pres-
ton cemetery.

Mrs. M. Mains and Miss 'Elizabeth,
who for the past month have been
visiting Chicago ,:friends, returned

Mr. and Mrs. 'Gormley Thompson
of North Bay, who have :been holi-
daying the past few weeks with Mrs.
Thompson's parents and other 'friends,
returned to their home on Monday.

Quite a nice little picnic was held
at /Bayfield on Saturday, Jame 171th,
where the .members of the "'Friendly
Class" and 'their friend's of the Unit-
ed 'Church (Sunday (School gathered
and spent a pleasant afternoon. The
afternoon was somewhat .cool to en-
joy the bathing. (However, after an
enjoyable time ,was 'spent at the picnic
lunch which 'was abundant, the sports
started and' everyone gat warmed yup.

Death of Former 'Resident, — The
death of Mr. Joseph .Morris, which oc-
curred at Paris on June'1'dth removed
a man who was well known in this
district, being born and raised on the
11.0th concession 'of 'Julien. Be suc-
cessfully farmed on the old home-
stead which his father settled on
when this country was a wilderness.
Fourteen years ago he sold his farm,
and retired from active life, having
married and raised a fancily of two
sons and one daughter,. After selling
out he tn'oved. to Dundalk, where he
lived for a few years, when he again
trade a change and 'bought a home in
Paris, Ont., where he resided till
death came at the age of 712 years,
Four months ago he suffered a severe
s'trake of paralysis ,and was taken to
the hospital in Paris where he: slowly
weakened 'till the end came. The fun-
eral took place from his late :residence
on Sunday afternoon, June 'llgth, Rev
Mr. 'Wilson of the 'United leh:urc'h 'of
ifitc'iated, he being a member and reg-
ular attendant when able,: Misses Lo-
vell and Meyers sang a'beaultiful duet.

peating the (Lord's prayer in unison.
.Alms. Keys gave the (Scripture reading
from .Matthew, "Work for the Night
Is Coming," was then sung. Mrs.
Stephenson gave a reading entitled,
`The Relation of 'Prayer to Missions"
and Mrs. 'MgClymont and :Violet fa-
vored with a (beautiful vocal duet, The
study book was taken.. up by Mrs.
Percy Johnston, who read "'Missions

'The death occurred on Friday mor-
ning of Josiah Creery at his holme in
Usborne in his 65ltlr year. The de-
ceased is survived by his widow, who
was Miss A'lex'ander' before her mar-
riage; ' two daughters, Miss Inez
Creery, 13.A,,; of !Fores't, and' Mrs;

day last was a splendid success. The
visiting societies; Winthrop and
(Burns, were in attendance in sootily

was sung alter which prayer' wasof-
fered by Mrs, ORev.) Gardiner, and
Mrs. Rolbit. Rogerson'. Mrs, Gardiner
spoke a few words of wetco'nse to the
visiting ladies. The Scripture' 'lesson
was read by -Mrs. E. Ad'a'ms, after
!which the secretary, Mrs. Dexter,
read the minutes of last meeting. A
piano solo by 'Miss Edith Hitlen;
rtadling, Mrs. Mc'Vittie; a duet,

Pethick and Mrs. Habkirk; reading;

Mrs. Watt. There Was a splendid
missionary ' dialogue by Mrs. David

The boys' softball team played the
Boxlboro team on Friday evening. The
score was 1745: in favor of Kinburn.
