The :brig wind storm on Wednesday
l'as't did' considerable damage in Hen-
sall, although not hitting us nearly
as hard as the north and south. The
smoke stack on Geiger & ,Son's flax
ani11 was blown dawn, and quite a
numiber of trews, 'S'outh Richm'and sit.
(being strewn with limbs from one end
to the other. But there were no build-
ings un'roafed or blown dawn in
town. .The extent of the storm
throu'gh the country was shown al-
most immediately by the large num-
ber of trucks and wagons that ar-
rived at Spencer's lumber yards.
Some 700 bund'l'es of shingles and a
Urge amount of lumber was taken
out in two hours. The starm on Sun-
day afternoon was very severe, quite
a number of trees 'being blown down.
'Mr. A. Fils'hie has returned home

Toronto.
Miss 'Marie Bell of .London spent
the week -end at her home here.
The annual Birthday of the W. M.
S. of Carmel. Presbyterian Church
will be held, on Thursday afternoon,
Dune 22. Mrs. ((Rev.) Lane of Gode-
rich will be the special speaker.
The ball game played' on our local
diamond between Stratford and Hen -
sail on Friday evening resulted in t
score 5-d for Stratford. The game was
well attended.
The Zurich Masonic Lodge: No, 223
will attend divine service at Carmel
+Presbyterian Church on 'Sunday .ev-
ening, June 25.
Miss Mona Miller visited fast week
with friends in Exeter.
Mrs, Lloyd Hudson left this week
for Forrest where Mr. Hudson is as-
sistant at the C. N. R. station there,
Mrs. Thos. Simpson left Friday for

of our village streets are busy at their
work and hope to complete the jab
in a few days. Every street in town is
being gravelled.

day last ..did a lot of damage in this

that things were not any worse, which

der from .the home of her son, lot 111,

had lived for a number of years, Her
pastor, Rev. R. R. Conner of 'Sit. And-

and graveside in' Maitland Bank ,cem-
etery. The pa'll'bearers were Messrs.
George Strong, William Archibald
and Thos. Elder of Tuckersmiith and
James .Cleland, Robert Cleland. and
David ,Park of Listowel, Mrs, Alex-
ander had eny:oyed goad health until
a few months ago when she began to
fail, and was confined to her bell

day, June 7th, passing away that ev
ening. D'ecease'd was : a naitive of
Scotland, born an West Thorne Farm,.
near Glasgow:, her maiden name 'be-
ing Miss Marcy (Fleming. ,S'he was
married in Scotland to the date John
lAlex'anider, who prede'ceased her ten
years ago. Two years after their m'ar-
ria'ge, -lfr, and :Mrs,' Alexander went
to the United (States and lived in the
State of Iowa for about sixjteen years.
1T'hen, after a trip to the 'Old Land,
they came to Canada and in 1]896 set-
tled on the 9th concession of Tuu'dk-
ersmith where she continued to reside
until her death. A family el four sons
mourn the lass of a 'kin'dly affection-
ate mother Mr. John Alexander, of
'Georgetown, 'Ont.; MT. William Alex-
ander, of near Hensall; Dr. C. C. Al-
exander, of Brantford, and 'Mir. Albert
G. Alexander of Tuckersmith. Two
sisters, 'Mrs. Malcolm McPhee and
Mrs. Robert Young, both residing in
IScotiand, survive also. -Among those.
from a distance wh'o attended the fun-
eral were her sons, :Dr. C. C. Alexan-
der, of Brantford; Mr. John Alexan-
der, of Georgetown; Mrs. William
'Gardiner and son Gilbert of Toronto,
Mr, anal Mrs. James Cleland, .Mr. and
Mrs. Robert Cleland and son. Will
and daughter Jessie; Mr. and Mrs.
(Bert Cleland, Mr. and Mrs. Thos,
'Cleland and ,Mrs, 'George Clela'nd', Sr.,
Miss Agnes Park, Me. and Mrs. Dav-
id Park, all Of Listowel; Mr. and Mrs,
T. Bruce of Science Hill, and daugh-
ter, Mrs. 'Alm. Ferguson of Wood-
ham, and Mr. and Mrs.' G:'Peaco'ck of
Granton. The sympathy of the com-
munity is extended to the bereaved.

The regular monthly meeting of the
ITuckersimi'th Lathes' Club was 'held
at the home of Mrs. N. Garrett with
a goodly attendance of members and
visitors present. The president, .Mrs,
R. Fear, presided. ,Roll call was ans-

'vegetable and how to prepare it. The

Modern Mother's Most Difficult
Problem?" Readings • were given by

Stunned by Lightning.
During the storm on Monday Mas-
ter Harry Pierce, nephew of M'r. and
Mrs. G. A. Sills, was stunned with
lightning. 'The mien working at the
sewer on Goderich street were also
slightly affected.

'Lively Time for Water Wagon.
'The horses on the water wagon
treated a little excitement during the
storm on Mon'd'ay. One of the horses
,became frightened and slip:p:ed on the
pavement, causing the tongue of the
cant to drop out of the necky ake.

when opposite the Dick House, Mr,
E. Barnett, the driver, was thrown off
to the pavement, The horses contin-
