stock will appear 'before Magislbtate

nection with the removal of ' good's
from the furniture factory. The hear-
ing was postponed while investiga-
tion was being Made of belts, etc.,

Mr. Lorne 1Hultchison, of Toronto
and Mr. George Hutchison of Lon-
don, spent Sunday with their mother,

Mrs. W. S. R. Holmes of Clanton
visited Monday at the home of Mr.
,and Mns. A, L. Porteous.
Misses 'Margaret McKellar and
Muriel Beattie were successful in tak-
ing first class honors at the January
final examinations at (Western Uni-
versity,
Mr. and Mrs. Herald (Lawrence
spent Sunday with friendssin Exeter,
and attended the morning and after-
noon sessions of !the Main Sit. Sun-
day school anniversary services.
Mr. Charles Holtsibein will observe
his 90th birthday on Friday this week,
(February Lath.

pices of the Ladies' Guild.

Friday, the Coldest day in years, the

the 1'4lth, Mrs. William Pinkney;
Chalk alt., celebrated her 89th binth-
day. A•ndther 89th anniversary 'Will be
observed in Seaforth on February 22
by Mrs. Canib'e, at the home of her
daughter, Mrs. T. Shorey, George st.
Mr. Thos. "Dad" ,Stevens was 92
years of age on Wed:nesdlay. A great
many -friends called at the !Queen's to
extend best wishes to one who has
been a resident of town for seventy
years.

JOHN PhNIKNEY
A well known and highly respect-
ed resident of Seaforth, 'Mr. John
ein'kney, died a.t his home on Gade
rich street on 'Tuesday might hollow-
i'ng- a •week's illness. Mr. Pinkney was
born in Maullmur, near Orangeville
and came to Huron County nearly.
(fifty years ago, living in Ashfield for
a time, There he was united in mar-
riage to his now bereft wife, Anna
Miatilda Bradford. Mr. and Mrs.
!Pinkney made their 'hoime at St.
'Helensand later at Londes!boro.
Thirlty-!five years ago they came to
!Seaforth. Besfdq ,Mrs. Pinkney three
sans and three daughters survive:
William of Hamilton; Mns. P. J.
Lawrence of Vancouver; Mabel of
'Buffalo N.Y.; Robert, George and
Clara, at home. Two sisters sof a fam-
ily of eight, also remain, ,Mrs. Eliza-
beth Kelly of Stratford, and Mrs.
'Warmingbon o1 St. Paul, Minn.
li'rr. Pinkney's death is felt as a
shock by his many 'friends as he had
been able to be about only a week
before his passing ,occurred. His lass
will he keenly felt by his family and
all who were acquainted with him.
He was 'af a quiet, unassuming dis-
position . and was a great lover of
horses.
The funereal ,will be held in. St.
Thomas' 'Anglican Church on Friday
afternoon at 2.30 o'clock. The services
will be conducted by' the rector, :Rev.
Canon Appileyand, Interment will take
palace in Maitland, 'Rank Cemetery.

Mr. and Mrs. Herb 1Cercher and
family have been on the sick list with
the flu. 'Their many friends oil 1 be
glad to hear that they are somewhat
better again.
A number of neighborsand friend's
had a very successful wood bee for
Mr. James Braacbfaat and cut about
thirty cords of wood.
Mrs, Geo, Dalrymple visited with
'Friends in Exeter for a few days, last
week.
PRESBY[TE]RY OF HURON
The February meeting of the Pres-
bytery of Huron of the United Church
WINS held in Wesley Willis "Church,
'Clinton on Tuesday, Rev. A. Sinclair,
of Hensalil,. presided. A lengthy bud-
get of correspondence was read by
the secretary, .Res, W. A. Bremner of
iBruceifield, at the morning ,session.
Tihese included a letter from Oxford
Presbytery asking the (support of a
resolution disfavoring Sunday funer-
als except in extreme cases. The Pres-
bytery concurred in the resolution.
Dinner was served in the church 'hall
by the W.A. The attendance through-
out Was small on account of'road con-
ditions. Miinislters and laymen from
charges any coansideralbie distance
from the highways were unable to at-
tend, The .atternoansession opened
with organ music by Vers. Agnew.
Reports oif various departments were
received. Rev. F. G. ,Fiarrit was in the
chair. The first report received was of
Rural Life which Was followed by
that of ,Religious Education. Howard
Wesley Johnson was received as a
candidate ,for She ministry. An inter-
esting discussion on Industrial Prob-
lems took place, several of the minis-
tenial and lay delegates taking part.
The secretary read a statistical 're-
po'rt Showing the .standing of the pre-
bytery in various departmen't's of
church life and work. Outstanding
features were: Numiber of changes in
the Presbytery, 38; wreathing places,
7.3; families, 5,451; church members,'
at Doc. 1952, 11247184; etnounit raised for
the M. and M. (fund, $28,801.
The Huron Presbyterial executive
met inone of the Bible class rooms.
ITlhere was a good attendance. Mrs.
(Rev.) 'W. IP. Lane of !Seaforth,. 'the
president, was in charge. :Reports of
all departments were siatisfat'tory.
The total receipts for 1931 were $115,-
523.88. The Huron County Baby Band
report was the best in London Con-
ference 'Branch. Another high spat
in the reports was that 1;315 lbs. of
hospital supplies, quilts, and second
hand cldbhirg valued -at '$1840,00 had
been, forwarded to Western mission
schools and hospitals. A lengthy des-
cussion took place in the Kingdom of
'God ,movement sponsored by Dr. K,a
gawa of Japan. The secretary was in
structed to soord a letter to each aux-
iliary urging that the movement be
given prayerful consideration,
EGMONDVILLE.
The Egnvondville Young People
spent a very pleasant evening on
Peb. 1'4 when they entertained the
Young People's Society from the
(West 'End, 'The meeting took the
form of a Valentine social and the
schoolroom of the church was suit-
ably decorated for the occasion. The
meeting opened with hymn '382, after
which • Arthur ;Wallace read the min-
utes of the last .meeting, The scrip-
ture lesson was read by Rill Forrest
and ,Margaret IBrdad'loat read an
article on prayer. 'After Helen
'Thompson led in prayer, hymn 317S
was sung. Gentle Webster took the
Inissionary topic and this was fol-
lowed iby hymn 84. T,hs new Eg-
mondville orchestra which consists
of Lilian Riehardlson, Minna 'Stewart,
Sandy Doig, H,u,gh Chesney, Ausltin
Zaipfe and B'db Tyndall then played
for us and the audience showed hear-
ty appreciatian.;Jean Smith 'favored
us with a reading and as usu.al•it was
very well received. 'The next number
was a song by Austin Zapife, accom-
panied on the guitar. Everyone en-
joyed this very much' and we hope
he will come to our meetings again
and sing for us. John Woods then.
took charge of the meeting. There
was to have been, a debate but all the
debaters were not able to take part.
Margaret Forrest, who has .charge of
the social pant, had many very inter -

o bounteous lunch 'was served. The
meeting was brought to a close with
the Miapah benediction.

MRS. H. HENDERSON
(Death came suddenly, and unex-
pected'ly, to 'Martha Shannon, a high-
ly esteemed resident of Egmon'dwille
and wife Of Henry' Henderson at her
home Tuesday afternoon, She had
been in her usual health until Mon-
day when she was seized with an
acute heart attack. 'Mrs. Henderson
•was a daughter of the late William.
!Tames Shannon, a prominent pioneer
of McKillop where sire was born and.
lived until ,her marriage over forty
years ago. Mr. and Mrs. ' Henderson
settled on the old homestead ' where,
they resided uutil•*hey retired to tg-

passed away last June.
Miss Mabel Calver is 'spending a
few days visiting her mother in Clin-
ton.
(Rev. 'E, A. Poulter,, on account of
sicknese, was unable :to take his work
last'Sunday. We hope that he may
soon be restored to his usual health,
MANLEY.
Word was received hem last Mon-
day of the death of Mr: James Man-
ley in his 83rd year which took place
in .London on the 13th inst. He was
the last surviving member of a fam-
ily of nine sons and one daughter,
who .moved here with their parents
in 1882, Which was then a solid for-
est and which is now a modern home.
'He was a carpenter by trade and
helped to erect ,many oif the farm
buildings in the surrounding coun-
try. About thirty-lfive years ago he
was married to M'argaret Doyle and
continued to live in Seaforth ,where
his p'ar'tner died a number of years
ago alter which he failed in health.
Four years ago he moved to London.
IHis ,remains were brought to 'Sea-'
forth on Tuesday where requiem
High Mass was celebrated by Rev.
(Father Goetz of St. James parish of
,which he was a consistent member
while here ,and front thence to ,St.
,James' Cemetery
where all tha

mortal was laid to resit beside his
partner in life. The pallbearers were
'Messrs. John Murray, Pat MdLatigh-
lin, Henry MtaDvor, Joe 'Lynch, J.
'Smith, W. J. Duncan.

the home in Clinton where he will be
convalescing ,until his ;hand will be im-
proved ennougli so he can go to work.
Mrs. Thos. McKay had the misfor-
tune of falling in which she got a'se-
vere shaking < up but is able to be
around again,
