comparatively small budget spent by
the Ross government. 'He recalled
that forty years ago Mr, McLaren
and Mr. Ryan, both former reeves,
said the roads were built and every
bridge had a stone hutment and it
was up to the rising generation of
that day (of Which he was one) to
maintain what the pioneers banded
therm free of debt. Were the descend-
ants of those pioneers unable and
unwilling to carry on that work Kiri

of the present situation and, he be-

(Reeve Nagle gave a full review of
the county's work and problems. He
attacked the centrdthzabioni .of auth-
ority at Toronto. The counties ouglht.
to refuse these grants, from govern-
ments which thelrn'selves were bank-
rupt. I1 was well knolwn that 'be-
tween the Can. Nat. Rys. debt (,which

County indiredely reslp'on'sible ' for
$40,000,000 of de'b't, wlhile 'the whole
county was assessed.ior only $83,000,-
000. 'Therefore, along with every other
lr
county, it was bankrupt,
stated. Of course, it would be ,foolish
for one lone mu.n'ilcfpali'ty to refuse
the grants if all the others were get-
ting them. Mr. Nagle had a slam for
Hugon county. Someone wanted to
know Why Perth county council Thad
five !meetings a year when Huron
had only three. 'Mr. Nagle replied he
had examined the financial report off
that county in regard to this matter,
and pointed to the amotints paid to
members of the various co'mm'ittees
which met alt 'Goderticb a number
of times between the sessions, the
allowance being so much a day and
mileage. These committees, be sus-
pected, were something like cutting
weeds. Every wet d'ay that came
along somebody said, "Let's go to
Goderich and hold a committee
meeting. I'bi's too wet to wodk, any-
wayl" The Perth county 'systenn is

ing . Mr. Nlagle reviewed his record
while in Office, and asked to be hon-
ored with tete confidence elf the
electors.
Mr. Wm. Kay, who was nominated
for reeve, said he was not a candidate,
as he had 'wished to stay with the
council for another year. He went
over the road work, and asked for
prompter payment of back taxes,
which ,atnoun'ted :to snore than $115,000.
Mr. Frank Allan who was nomin-
ated for : both reeve and council, re-
viewed the road work. Messrs. J. W.
