TOWN TOPICS'
TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO
December, 1906.
Death of Robt. A. Scott,
A very sudden 'death occurred on
Tuesday evening when Mr. Robt. A.
!Scott passed away at his residence en
the Huron road, west of town, after
!only a few hours illness. His death
was caused' by the bursting of a blood
vessel in the head. During the •after-
noon of Tuesday lie complained;of a
severe pain in the back of his neck but
went about his work as usual and at
tea time was feeling much better.
Shortly after the was taken su'ddenly
ill, .suffering extreme pain in the head
followed by !c'on'vulsions which result-
ed in his death shortly after 10 p.m.
The deceased who was in his '52nd
year was a 'life long resident ,of this
vicinity and was brought up' 00 the
farm on ,which his death Occurred. Ile
was a brother of Dr. S'co'tt of 'this'
town and Mr. Andrew 'Scott, `teacher
in the ;Bru.cefield sc'htool. He leaves a
wife add three sons, who in their 'said
affliction will have the sincere sym-
pathy n'E the entire community.
Golden Wedding.
Mr. and Mrs. Wm. J'olmnsiton cele-
brated their Golden wedding on Tues-
day last when a number of their rela-
tives and several ,members Of 't'he
ily
assembled at their home on Gode-
rich 'Street East to do honor to the
occasion. 'Two children, Mrs. Mat-
thew ,Beattie of British Columbia, and
Mrs, Wm. Lockhart, o'f M'cICillop,
were unable to be present, the latter
owing to illenss. The Igueslts arrived
during the afternoon and at six;o''dock
a fowl supper was served, after which
the evening was pleasantly 'spent. Mr.
and Mrs. Johnston received a num-
ber of useful 'presents, and among
them was a purse, of gold from their
children. The gift of gold was ac-
companied by :the following address:
'D'ear Father and Mother, we are
much pleased to meet with you to -day
to celebrate this, your 'Golden wed-
ding. We are thankful that 'God in
His great mercy 'has seen fit to spare
your lives together so many years and
pray that you still may have many
happy years before you, to give coun-
sel and direction to your 'family. And
in honor of the esteem in which you
are held by the members of your fam-
ily weask you to accept this ,purse as
a small 'token o'f love, and trust that
your future days may be the bright-
est and happiest of your life and all
do hope that you may both be spared
to see your diamond wedding. S'ighe'd

Alderman Injured.
The London Free Press o'f .Saturday
says: "The many friends of Ald. Wan,
Scarlett will be grieved to know thPat
he has been confined to his house'
since the latter part 'of last week, suf-
fering from injuries sustained 'by a
fall at the Michigan Central station.
He was hurrying to 'catch a train, and
it being after dark and the eastern
enkl 'of the platform badly lighted, he
tripped on the sidewalk and fell very
heavily, badly lacerating his knee and
otherwise receiving a general s'h'aking
up." Mr. 'Scarlett has many friends in
:Seaforth and vi'cin'ity who will regret
to hear of the accident.

Municipal nomination's will take
place here on Monday evening next in
the town hall and with Jas. A. Pater-
son, village clerk, as presiding officer.
Nominations will he received for the
reeves*, council, 3 schdol trustees
and member for 'the public utilities. It
is very, likely a contest will take place
(for the reeveship as there are several
aspirants for the office, including the
present reeve, Mr. Geiger. In times
like these, Hensall has no great reason
to complain. The taxes have been paid
to about the same as usual for this
time of year and we have no one on
relief. Our municipal debentures are
being paid when due and next year
should see a substantial reduction in
the tax rate as there will be no more
levies for the cement road, and al-
though we hear of some other places
in the county being in splendid finan-
cial condition, Hensall has a great
deal to show for the money spent and
outside of our school debentures our
municipal debt isvery small. ant! in
1933 we should have again the lowest
tax rate in the county.
We understand that a Mr. McFar-
lane of Clinton has been appointed as

Kippen Depot to Close.-IIt is very
regrettable indeed to learn that our
CJN.IR. depot will be closed Dec. 311's't,

familiar landmarks of this commun-
ity for nearly sixty years, having ,been
built, we believe, shortly after' the old

ing to feel sorry to see it close andto
suffer the inconvenience Of going else-

will be sorry to lase "Bruce" as our

splendid agent, a friend to everyone
and will be missed in social life as
'well as business. It is nine years since
