HIBBERT.
Thomas M{ahaffy, a highly esteemed
resident of Hsibbert Township and a
member of the township council, pass-
ed away at the family residence on
Tuesday night fel-lowi'n; an illness
of some duration. He 'was in his 84th
year and had been a resident of the
dtsrict virtually all his life. He was a
successful farmer. His wife, formerly
Miss Fannie !Frances, ,prede'cea'sed him
by nine years. He leaven to mourn
their doss four sons, Herb, at home;
Wilbert of ,Hilbbert; Fred of Scepter,
Sask.; and Dr: A. P. 'Miahaffy of Ni-
geria, West A'fri'ca; also one brother
Gingen, of Scepter, Sask.

afternoon in the Hilfsgreen Church Iby
Dr. Mortimore of Auburn, w+ho gave
a ;message on his work in \Vest China.
and Mrs. H. Fuss and family
spent Sunday with friends in Clinton.

Fire destroyed ;the large barn of
Mr. Henry F. Beuermaaut last Satur-
day at 8 p.ni., with the season's crop.
Fortunately the live stack was saved
alith the exception of some ,hens. The
loss was heavy and partly ocvered by
insurance. The fire still remains a
mystery' as they were in the ,b'arn do-
ing !chores when suddenly the flames
came downs stairs, which a few min-
utes before they had come down and
no sign df fire had 'been seen upstairs,
