The W.MIS. of the .United Church
held their regular meeting on Thurs-
day afternoon last. 'After the opening•
exercises and business discussed an
instrumental was given by Mrs. Ed-
gar Stewart followed by readings by
Mrs. S. Merner and Mr. A. McDon-
ald. The visiting committee reported
on making 12 calls on sick and shut-
ins. Mrs. Spencer and Mrs. :McDon-
ald were appointed visiting commit-
tee for next month.
The !CjG2:T. Club attended a ban-
quet in Seaforth Friday night.
Services in our local churches were
well attended on ,Sunday last. At the
United Church Rev. Arthur Sinclair
had charge of the services. At the ev-
ening service an evening was spent
with Seth Parker by singing some of
his well known .hymns. Solos were
given by Miss Annie 'Smith, 'Mas.
Maude Hedden, Dr. I.. S. !Smillie and
Mr. Harry Horton; duets by Mrs.
. 'Drysdale and Mrs. Hess and Mr. and
Mrs, Henry +Phile; quartettes by Mrs.

Young occupied the pulpit, Baptismal
services were observed at the morn-
ing service. !Baby Daniel Robert Hed-

Miss Alice Higgins. has 'returned'
after a two weeks' visit with her sis-
ter at Beaeth-&Panes.
Mr. and. Mrs. Robert Parsons of
S'tanley have moved into ,Hensall and
are residing in Mr. Alex. Sparks'
house on the London Road.

been in the employ of Mrs. A. Ross
for the past month has returned to

The Welfare" Youth Chib of the
Carmel 'Presibylterian Church held
their regular meeting on Monday ev-
ening. After' the opening exercises the
minutes of the last meeting were read
by Miss Hannah Murray and the bus-
iness dis'cusse'd:, 'A solo was given by
the Rev, W. A. Young -and the topic
by M'rs. Young of Nairn on George
(Leslie McKay df Formosa.
The Arnold tCircle of the Carmel
Presbyterian Church held their regu-
lar meeting on. Tuesday evening at
the home of Mrs. Roy McLaren, the
meeting being in charge of Miss Ir-
ene Haggarth. The 'topic was very
ably 'given by Mrs. W. A. Young.
The regular meeting of the village
.council was held on Monday evening
at 4 p.m. in the council ch'ambers, all
members being present. The minutes
,of the .prev!ious ,meeting were read and
ad'opte'd on motion of !Petty and
Spencer, 'Carried. Mr, Sidney McAr-
thur appeared as a delegation 'from
the Legion asking for the use of the
hall for one night tree of charge, and
that the flag pole be repaired. Petty

the Legion for one night free of

Rdbert Dawson, then gave the topic,
('Remembrance Day," also repeated a
poem, written' by Mrs's Lavina Car-

the Dead." The roll call, a !Fal'len
Hero, was responded to by some 35
members. The meeting closed' with
singing,. "Tenting on the 01d Camp
Ground." The ho'sltess, iMes. Walter

Mrs. Pepper, Mrs Rattenlbury, Mrs,
Ross and Mrs. Rathwell, served a
very dainty lunch. The December
business meeting will be held at the
church. Mrs. Geo. Swan will be host-
ess for the afternoon.
Dr. Swan of Hamilton visited • at his
'home in the village last Sunday.
Mrs. A. T. Scott is visiting at the
home of her sister, Mrs, Yellowiees
of Bovemanville at present.
The many 'friends of Mrs. George
Hill will regret to shear that she has
been confined' to her room for the
past two weeks. She had e visit from
her son, Mr. jas. Hill of Stratford,'
last Sunday.

of the Woman's Missionary Society
will be held in the auditorium of the

The speaker for the evening will be
Miss Evelyn Mitchell, travelling sec-
retary of the W.M.S. -Miss ' Mitchell,
Who has been 'travelling !through the
Peace River district during the past
summer, twill give an interesting ac-
count of the work (there. •A cordial
invitation is edtende'd to all the con-
gregation to be present.
The death occurred Wed'nes'day,
Nov. 2,nd, in his 79th year, at his
home in McGillivray Township, after
a short illness. Mr.. Thenspson.. was-
well
aswell known and highly respected,
having been born and lived all ,his life
on the farm on 'which he died. His
wife predeceased him by five.. years.
Surviving are two sons, Joseph of
;London, and Wilh'am, on, the 'ho'm'e-
stead; and. one daughter, Mrs. 'Basil
+O1Rourke, of Brucefield. The funeral
was held from his late residence Sat-
urday morning bo St. Peter's Ohurdh,
lBiddu1!ph, where solemn requiem'' high
mas's was celebrated, by the pastor.

ing found that the fire had started in
'the sitting room and must have been

couch was completely destroyed, also

County Councils Act in Force.
