BUTTER STOLEN.
No trace has been found' as yet of
the crates of butter, totalling almost
a tori in weight, stolen from the
Seaifiorth Creamery early Tuesday
Morning. Provincial Constable McCoy
of Goderich is investigating the theft.
-The crates of shutter were loaded
on a truck standing by an open win-
dow at the south side of the Cream-
ery, through Which entry was made.
A padlock on the dolor Of the big re-
frirgerator was broken off and the
cases of butter in the outer half of the
refnigerator were all taken. The limier
half was not broken into, which was
'fortunate as at the time it also was
'1uiIl of ,butter.

ly heard by Mrs. Albert Hud's'on who
dives across from the Creamery. Mrs.
Hudson was awake as She had been

it sounded as if they were loading
a truck with butter et the creamery,

CELEBRATES 90TH BIRTHDIAY,
Mrs. William Fortune Has Spent
Eighty -Five Years in District
'Wi'th tales of how their neighbors
were lost in bhe ,bush in Bibibert, Mrs.
William Fortune harks 'back to her
girlhood days on the occasion of her
90th birthday. Monday, September
5th, was the memorable day, and a
great many relatives and friends in
this vicinity called to congratulate
her.
Born at Merriokville near Ottawa,
she cane to St. Coluneban (then Ir
ishtaven) at the age of .five with her
parents, 'Mr, and Mrs. ,James Roach.
Their wagon breaking down before
they reached Mitchell was an un-
pleasant experience di their journey
to their new home. About three miles
south, of .the Huron Road, equably
distant from Irislhtown and ,- Gardon-
bro'ok (now Dublin) her parents made
a home in the bush, at the same time
as others, among whom were Pat-,
rich Welsh who was their next neigh-
bor; Peter McConnell( and the Gal-

Shortly before her Family came, a
young man had perished' front ex-
posure in the bush. He was one ' a
;party of four or five men who had

'Their homestead • is still in the
Roach family, being farmed by
1Mes'srs. fames and Peter Roach.
After her, marriage, , which took.
place sixty-six years 'ago, her new
ihome, now Mr. Stav'in's farm, was
only a ' shirt distance . away. Since
then' Mrs. Fortune lived in Seaforth
for a few years, then in Dublin four-
teen years, during which time Mr.
;Fortune died and a year after his
death, their 'son W. J. Fortune, well-
knoiwn baker of Dublin, died - during
the influenza. epidemic of 19118. After
the death of her son she and her'
daughter came to Seafanth and are
now residing on E. William street,
just a block north of Gaderieh street.
Mrs. Fortune has three daughters:
Sister Fidelis Of the Sisters Of St.
LPoseoh, London; Sister ,Fortune of the
(Sacred Heatit Order, Halifax, and
Miss Mary Fortune, residing with
her; two sons and a daughter have
passed on, James, Margaret and W.J.
Though considered the frailest, she
hes outlived her two brothers and
two sisters. At ninety, Mrs. Fortune
still, possesses every faculty and a
bright, almost youthful smile, and
*continues to do all her own ,business.
She is practically never ill and be-
lieves few young women df to -day
could make the trips on foot to Mit-
chell and Harpurhey from their home,.
in the manner of former days.

ronto, Niagara Fates and paints east,
the- bride travelling in navy georg-
ette with navy crepe coat with grey
trimmings. On their return they will
live on bhe groom's farm just west
of aur village.

ing the past two months they have
been motoring through the Western
States and Canada, having travelled
nearly twelve thousand miles. ' While
in San Francisco; Mr. Tamlblyn at-
tended the convention of Optim'ist'I'n-
ternationat, a service club interested
in boys' work. Mr. Tantlblyn was
again honored by reappointment to
their boys' work committee.

Enjoyable Afternoon at Brucefjeld.
—An. enjoyable and profitable after-
noon was spent at the 'home of Mrs.
Alza. Broadfgot on Thursday, S•ep-
temiber I. The meeting was presided
over by the President, Mrs. H, Aik-
enhead. After the opening hymn,
Mrs, Jamieson read the Scripture and
Mrs. James McQueen led in prayer.
Mrs, Cleve Cochrane then gave a
fine paper ori "How to Make Work a
Pleasure," The roll call, "Your Fav-
orite Household Task, was respond-
ed to by 38 members. There were also
22 visitors. Mrs. T. B. Baird' gave the
Secretary's report. In the absence of
Mrs, J, Addison, who was away
through illness, the remainder of the
afternoon was spent ` in patching
quilts. The hostesses for the after-
noon
fternoon were Mrs. S. Munro, Mrs. Wal-
ter Moffatt, Miss Jean Murdoch; and
lits•. Bert MisKay, who served a 'very
dainty lunch. The October meeting
will be held at the church.
