SERI1OUS ACCIDENT.
According to word from Clinton
hospital, Mr. Jia,mes Scott, son of
and Mrs. A. D. Scott of Thornton
Hall; Huron Road, has been making
as much improvement in condition 'as
can be expected since the serious ac-
cident New Year's eve. He is suf-
fering from a compound fracture of
the leg and loss of blood from num-
erous cuts. He was badly cut about
one eye but it is no/w- thought his
sight has not been impaired. Orr ac-
count the compound fracture of
,his leg above the knee, he will be un-
able 'to move from the •strapPings for
two months.
).Miss Marjorie Bickel', the other oc-
cupant of the 'car, mirecul•ously
came through the crash with only a
cut above the eye, requiring several
stitches. She will be unalbie to return
to her teaching .duties in Toronto for
a month. ,

The many frier& of Miss Mary
Mtddrew will regret to learn of her
death whiela occurred in Scott Mem-
orial Hospital, Seaforth on Wednes-
day, folioiwing an illness of several
months. Miss lfuldrew suffered a
slight stroke shortly after the death
of her sister, Mrs, J. R. Scott from
which she never fully re'covered, until
the end came and she passed peace-
fully away. '
!The deceased was a daughter of the
late 'John and ° Marion Muldrew and
was horn in :the township df Hay, June
I'6th, 1860, file earlier part of !icor life
being spent there until her parents
Moved to Egmondville in 1687. Al-
though being away from here at times
he made her home irs• 'this vicinity,
always taking an active part in the
work of tire church, and a member of
the United Church. Being of a kindly
disposition she was beloved by all

THE JANUAR THAW.
The 'January thaw seems to have
arrived of schedule in spite of the
exceptionally mild wJcsibher of the past
couple of months, taking away the
open air skating of last week Which

the young people as yet. Tuesday
night and Wednesday morning rain

the severe 'sleet storm which visited
