WORK BEGINS ON LOCAL
COMMUNITY CENTRE.
Despite bad weather, preliminary
Work has commenced on the -iCom-
-munity project. Workmen are busy
preparing the piers for the trusses,
the grounds have been levelled and
the main drains will soon be in-
stalled. Cement work on the main
floor and walls will be started at
once. With favorable weather, each
week,. should assure a complete job
in January.

olic Women's League was held in .St.
James' Sebool hall on Tuesday even-
ing, Oct. 4th.. Mrs. T. D Sills, Presi-
dent, opened the meeting with gray-,

minutes by Mrs. F. Dinwoodie,
Plans were made for the tea and ba-
zaar to be held early in December.
A day of recollection will be held on
the last Sunday of October in honor
of the Feast of Christ, The King.
An interesting reading on Devotion
to the Holy Rosary was given by
Mrs. I. O'Leary. Following the meet-
ing a delicious lunch was served with
Miss Margaret Kelly and Mrs. C.
Trott, hostesses.

Huron Presbytery of the United
Church of Canada, met in Blyth
United Church, on Wednesday, Sep-
tember 28th.
The meeting commenced with a
Communion Service, conducted by
the Chairman, Rev. S. H. Brenton,
Londeaboro, assisted by the session
of the local church.
Helpful addresses were given by
Rev. D. D. Gaynor, Woodstock, Con-
enor of the Missionary and Main-
tenance Fund of London Confer-
ence; Rev. W. J. M. Smyth, Parkhill.
Convenor of the Missionary and
Maintenance Fund of London Con-
ference; Dr. R. T. Richards, London,
Superintendent of Home Missions in
Western Ontario; and A. Q. Moor-
house, Toronto, Assistant Secretary
of Missionary Education.
Prayer was offered for Rev. Har-
old Shell, Exeter, who was seriously
injured in an automobile accident,
and is at present in St. Joseph's
Hospital, London.
A welcome was extended to the
new ministerial members, Revs. Pet-
er C. Renner, Bayfield; J. Robert
Watt, Gorrie, and. David A, McMil-
lan, Seaforth. A11 three spoke brief-
ly in reply.

project, "Clothes closets tip -to -date".

Group 3 of the W. A. of Northside
United Church held its October
meeting on Tuesday evening at the
borne of Mrs.•. C. Walden. The presi-
dent opened the meeting with a
poem and prayer. Hymn 490 "I am
Thine 0 Lord" was sung and Thel
ma Elgie led in prayer followed by
the Lord's Prayer in unison. The
scripture lesson was taken from the
23rd Psalm and was read by Mrs.
Schneider. A piano solo by Marjorie
Walden was much enjoyed. Roil can
was answered by 20 members by
naming an author. Three visitors
were also present. The guest speak-
er was Miss Winnie Saatiuge, . who
gave a very interesting and instruc-
tive talk on her hobby of. weaving.
She also :displayed various pieces of
her work. Hymn 5f12 "What a Friend
we have in Jesus" was sung .and the
meeting closed with the Mizpah
Benediction, Lunch was served by
the committee in charge.

IMr. Harry Weiland has returned
to Toronto after spending two
weeks with his parents, Mr. and Mrs.
at Weiland.
Mr. Earl Van Egmond has rented
an apartment in Mrs. Sterling's :re-
sidence.
Mr. and Mrs. Dalrymple and
Charlie spent Sunday with Mr. and
Mrs. Ed. Chappel and family at
Cromarty, and attended both ser-
vices at Chiselhuiist United Church
anniversary.

Requiem high mass for Robt. Dev-
ereaux, 87, who died in St. Joseph's
Hospital, London, was sung in St.
James' Church Monday morning by
Rev. Father T. P. Hussey, and inter-
ment made in St. James' Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Joseph Dorsey.
John and Arthur Devereaux, James
Cleary, J. M. McMillan and W. J.
Duncan.
He was a native of Tuekersmith
Township and after residing in Chi-
cago for several years, retuned and
followed. his trade of blacksmithing
in Seaforth. Following the death of
his wife he went to London. He was
a member of the Holy Name Society.
Surviving is a sister, Mos. Eliza-
beth McDonald, Windsor.

full skirt with French lace inser-
tions extended into a slight train.
Her headdress of braided satin trim-
med with pearls to Which was attach-
ed a long scalloped French illusion
veil. Wearing a triple strand of
pearls, the bride carried a cascade
bouquet of red sweetheart roses.
The bridesmaid was Pauline Mat-
thews,
Matthews, Kitchener, sister of the bride.
Her gown of aqua marquisette over
taffeta was styled with plunging
neckline, brief sleeves and doubled
gathered skirt with ruffles. Her
flowers, a easca.de of yellow roses.
The Jr. bridesmaid, Peggy Lou Mat-
-thews, niece of the bride, wore yel-
low marquisette over taffeta styled
the same. at bridesmaid. They both
wore picture hats and matching mit-
tens, The groom was assisted by his
brother Jack O'Reilly, Stratford.
The ushers being 'Maurice `Nickell
and Jack O'Reilly, cousins of the
bride and groom respectively.
Dinner was served to the immedi-
ate families at the Commercial Hotel
followed by a reception at - the
bride's parents. The bride's mother
receiving in a wine dress with black
accessories and a corsage of white
baby mains. The groom's mother re-
ceiving in a black dress and grey ace
cessor•ies with a corsage of yellow
baby mums.
For travelling the bride wore a
wine .suit With grey accessories and
a corsage of orchids on a weddinig
trip to Hamilton, Niagara and the
United States..
Guests were present froth Detroit.
Toledo, Toronto, Kitchener., Mitchell`
Dublin, Beechwood, Seaforth,
Clinton. On the return the couple
will reside on the gr'oom's farm in
Hibbert.

group of grandchildren, Following
the dinner and presentation of an
electric pad and various other appro
priate gifts, four tables of progres-
sive euchre were arranged. Gentle-
man's prize was won by Leonard
Cronin and ladies' prize by Miss
Joan Flanagan. The oldest person at
the celebration was the guest of
honor, Mr:.. Roach, and the youngest
was six -months old Leonard Ry-
an, son of Mr. and Mrs, Frank
Ryan: Mrs. -Roach, with whom her
niece, hiss Monica Roach resides,
enjoys fairly good health and takes
an active interest in current affairs.'
She has three daughters, Mrs. Jo-
eoph Flanagan. McKillop Township:

met in the Town Hall, Seaforth, on
Saturday, Oct. 1st at 8 p.m. All
members were present and Reeve
Nicholson presided.
By -Law No. 9, 1949, adopting the
Assesment Roll showing a taxable
assesment for the year 1949 of
$!2,169,477., was given its required
reading's and passed; and By -Law
No. 10, 1949, requesting' the Min-
ister of 'Municipal Affairs for an
extension of time for the return of
the 1950 roll, was also passed and
application was made for such ex-
tension.
The town of Clinton was paid $6.-
93, Division Court Sees for 1949
and $60,00 re Fireman's Ton.
The Reeve and Clerk were author-
ized to sign, a llipplenent to the
Traffic Agreement between the Bell
Telephone Company and Tucker -
smith Township relative to connect-
ing points with the system affecting
the Bayfield Exchange.
Payment of $10.00 each was au-
thorized to the Seaforth and Hensall
Branches of the Canadian Legion to
provide a wreath for Remembrance
Day.
Council instructed the Clerk to
forward a letter to the Dept. of
Highways of .Ontario requesting,
them to install a 30 mile speed limit
on No. '4 Highway at the village of
Brucefield.
The Clerk was also instructed to
forward membership fee to the Hur-
on County Municipal Association.
Accounts passed were as follows:
